  • This paper proposes a voltage compensation device direct control strategy to realize the distributed, autonomous voltage control of the distribution system, which based on voltage data collected from customers of the remote site under the ubiquitous-based distribution system. In the proposed method, The ULTC and the SVR(Step Voltage Regulator)s compensate autonomously the voltage for self-compensation area based on the voltage data furnished from the ubiquitous device of customers. Also, the SVRs overcome the limit of single-operation of ULTC by the interlocking operation with the ULTC and enhance the voltage compensation capability for the customer. In particular, an optimization design method and a fuzzy design method are compared to determine the effective control method of the voltage compensator under the ubiquitous-based on-line operation environments. In fuzzy method, the tap of voltage compensator is defined as output member. Finally, the proposed two methods are implemented in Visual C++ MFC, the effectiveness is proved by simulation based on the worst virtual voltage data. Also, an optimal voltage compensation strategy is determined under on-line environments based on analyzed results.

  • There are several types of switching table for selection voltage vector in direct torque control of induction motor. In general, two-quadrant and four-quadrant operation switching table are used mostly. Two-quadrant operation has an advantage that reduced the torque ripples in comparison with four-quadrant operation, but it has the defect that is not constant average torque. Because the torque increasing slope size by non-zero voltage vector is different from the torque decreasing slope size by zero voltage vector as speed region. The main objective of this study is to maintain constant average torque using two-quadrant operation switching table. In proposed method, the torque increasing slope or decreasing slope are calculated before selected voltage vector is applied. Then, it is applied to zero voltage vector or non-zero voltage vector until the torque increasing slope and decreasing slope are equal. In total magnitude. Therefore it becomes to maintain average torque at whole operation speed. The validity of the proposed method is proven by simulated and experimental results.

  • Parallel operation scheme to several transformers is adopted because of the load increase, economic problem, or load shedding. For the transformer's parallel operation, loads proportional to each transformer's capacity must be allotted, and circulation currents must be limited as much as without causing any problem in a real operation. But, both transformers in parallel operation can be tripped when either faults at lower voltage side of a transformer or faults in a bus occurs. Therefore, parallel operation scheme to distribution transformers in Korea is not adopted in a normal state but only when loaded or load-shedded. These are due to the insufficiency of the construction in communication network and AVR scheme. Besides that, those are because bus bar protection scheme to lower voltage side of a transformer is not applied. In spite of enormous initial investment costs, advanced countries take so much account of power system reliability and stable supply that they adopt the parallel operation scheme in a normal state. One of the problems in parallel operation is the overheat of transformers due to the excessive circulation currents. This paper presents the scheme that controls voltages between both transformers using circulation currents that occurs in parallel operation.

  • This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • The constraint conditions are the stator voltage and the stator current to operate the motor in the flux weakening region. The maximum current is limited by the inverter current rating and the machine thermal rating. Given DC link voltage to control the motor in the flux weakening the maximum voltage is determined by considering PWM strategy, dead time, voltage drop of the inverter switching device, and the margin of the voltage for current forcing. In this paper, the new method to determine the available maximum voltage is derived by the quantitative method and by considering the factors of the voltage drop. The proposed method to determine the maximum voltage is very useful to improve the stability of the motor system and to enlarge the speed operation region in the flux weakening operation. Therefore the utility of the maximum voltage is increased.

  • There is a trade-off between read stability and writability under a full-/half-select condition in static random access memory (SRAM). Another trade-off in the minimum operating voltage between the read and write operation also exists. A new peripheral circuit for SRAM arrays, called a variation sensor, is demonstrated here to balance the read/write margins (i.e., to optimize the read/write trade-off) as well as to lower the minimum operation voltage for both read and write operations. A test chip is fabricated using an industrial 45-nm bulk complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process to demonstrate the operation of the variation sensor. With the variation sensor, the word-line voltage is optimized to minimize the trade-off between read stability and writability ($V_{WL,OPT}=1.055V$) as well as to lower the minimum operating voltage for the read and write operations simultaneously ($V_{MIN,READ}=0.58V$, $V_{MIN,WRITE}=0.82V$ for supply voltage $(V_{DD})=1.1V$).

  • This paper analyzes the effect of DGS(Dispersed Generation System) on the voltage regulation of the traditional distribution system of which the voltage is controlled by the bank LDC(Line Drop Compensator). Through the simulation results for 22.9kV class distribution system with DGSs, some general relationships among the operating power factor and introduction limit of DGS, and the sending-end reference voltage determined by internal setting coefficients of the LDC are derived. Those relationships are that the introduction limit of DGS increases as the power factor of DGS goes from lagging to leading and also as the allowance of the sending-end reference voltage increases. From the relationships, a operation method of the power distribution system integrated with DGSs is proposed from the view point of the operating power factor of DGS and new voltage regulation method.

  • Most of the low-voltage feeder are designed with approximately balanced and connected at the three phase four wire systems. However, Most of the power distribution systems' load which is composed of single or three phase are unbalanced by generating load unbalance. Unbalanced current will draw a highly unbalanced voltage. The power factor of an induction motor at rated operation is between 25 and 90%, depending on the size and speed of the motor. However, many induction motors operate below the nominal rating, resulting in poor power factor. This condition needs power factor improvement. Addition of power capacitor at the motor terminal may draw to stress due to voltage unbalance. This paper presents operation characteristics on steady states of a three-phase induction motor under unbalanced voltages with power capacitor. The existence of voltage unbalance have an effect on stress of power capacitor.

  • The present paper investigates the optimal operation of a switched reluctance motor such that overall drive efficiency is maximized under a variable supply voltage. The operation under a variable supply voltage exhibits the improved drive efficiency in the full range of operating torque and speed, and exhibits the expanded range of operating torque and speed. Furthermore a variable supply voltage may be utilized in reducing torque ripple.
