  • In order to implement the real-time operating systems for robot controller, this paper proposes a systematic method for implementing the real-time kernel under the DOS environment. So far, we designed the robot control software and its own operating system simultaneously. Though robot operating systems have simple structure, it allows the developer to have a surplus time and effort to implement complete robot systems. In addition to this, in most cases of this type, operating systems does not support multitasking function, thus, low level hardware interrupts are used for real-time execution. Subsequently, some kinds of real-time tasks are hard to implement under this environment. Nowadays, the operating systems for robot controller requires multitasking functions, intertask communication and task synchronization mechanism, and rigorous real-time responsiveness. Thus, we propose an effective and low costs real-time systems for robot controller satisfying the various real-time characteristics. The proposed real-time systems are verified through real implementation.

A Study on Performance Comparison of COTS Operating Systems for a Mission Computer Using UAV Collision Avoidance Algorithm (무인기 충돌회피 알고리즘을 이용한 임무컴퓨터용 상용기성품 운영체계 성능 비교에 대한 연구)

  • There has been an increase in the number of researches on the segment for commercialization after developing avionics systems. In this paper, we have applied a commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) operating systems in an aircraft mission computer. We used UAV collision avoidance algorithms to compare the performance of COTS operating systems. The UAV collision avoidance algorithms were tested on different operating systems to compare the performances of the operating systems. The measured parameters are memory usage and processing time. We have verified that the UAV collision avoidance algorithms worked successfully and compared the performance of each operating system.

  • This paper describes a method that is integrated trace for real-time virtualization environment. This method has solved the problem that the performance trace may not be able to analyze integrated method between heterogeneous operating systems which is consists of real-time operating systems and general-purpose operating system. In order to solve this problem, we have attempted to reuse the performance analysis function in general-purpose operating system, thereby real-time operating systems can be analyzed along with general-operating system. Furthermore, we have implemented a prototype based on ARM Cortex-A15 dual-core processor. By using this integrated trace method, real-time system developers can be improved productivity and reliability of results on real-time virtualization environment.

  • For the commercialization of fuel cell powered vehicle, it is highly important to improve the performance and efficiency of an automotive polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system. The performance and efficiency of PEMFC systems are significantly influenced by their operating conditions. Among these conditions, the system operating pressure is considered as the one of the main factors. In this study, to investigate the effects of operating pressure on the performance and efficiency of automotive PEMFC systems, two types of high-pressure operating PEMFC systems adopting two different compressors (i. e. different performance maps) are modeled by using MATLAB/Simulink environment. The PEMFC system efficiency and parasitic compressor power are mainly analyzed and compared for the two types of high-pressure operating PEMFC systems under the same system net power conditions. It is expected that this kind of study can contribute to provide basic insight into the operating strategies of high-pressure operating PEMFC systems for automotive use.

What Motivates Users to Upgrade the Operating Systems? (운영체제 업그레이드 의도에 관한 연구: 마이크로소프트 윈도우 사용자를 중심으로)

  • This study discusses the operating systems upgrade to motivation of windows users. To discuss this issues, research hypotheses were set based on Unified Theory of Acceptance Use of Technology(UTAUT) and Theory of Reasoned Action(TRA). The data were collected from undergraduate students. Total of 199 data were used for the analysis. The results of the analysis were summarized into two ways. first, performance expectancy and effort expectancy has a positive influence on attitude towards upgrade the operating systems. Second, social influence, facilitating conditions, and attitude had a positive influence on intention towards upgrade the operating systems. Thus, when users perceived a high degree of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions towards upgrade the operating systems, they evaluated more positively the upgrade the operating systems.

Effects of Key Operating Parameters on the Efficiency of Two Types of PEM Fuel Cell Systems (High-Pressure and Low-Pressure Operating) for Automotive Applications

  • The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system consisting of stack and balance of plant (BOP) was modeled in a MATLAB/Simulink environment. High-pressure operating (compressor type) and low-pressure operating (air blower type) fuel cell systems were con­sidered. The effects of two main operating parameters (humidity and the pressure of the supplied gas) on the power distribution characteristics of BOP and the net system efficiency of the two systems mentioned above were compared and discussed. The simulation determines an optimum condition regarding parameters such as the cathode air pressure and the relative humidity for maximum net system efficiency for the operating fuel cell systems. This study contributes to get a basic insight into the fuel cell stack and BOP component sizing. Further research using muli­object variable optimization packages and the approach developed by this study can effectively contribute to an operating strategy for the practical use of fuel cell systems for vehicles.

  • A combat system for navy's battleship is a system of systems who supports naval indigenous operations by integrating and inter-operating many different kind of weapon and non-weapon systems, which has characteristics of large-scale complex computing system. This paper considers a characteristics of naval combat system which has been developed by domestic technology and suggests a way to improve future naval combat system in terms of computing architecture by applying commercial real-time operating system technologies. This paper also provides an evaluation criteria for combat system adaptability of real-time operating systems.

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

  • The air supply system has a significant effect on the efficiency of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) systems. The performance and efficiency of automotive PEMFC systems are greatly influenced by their air supply system configurations. This study deals with the system simulation of automotive PEMFC systems using MATLAB/Simulink framework. In this study, a low-pressure operating PEMFC system adopting blower sub-module (turbo-blower) is modeled to investigate the effects of stack operating temperature and air stoichiometry on the parasitic power and efficiency of automotive PEMFC systems. In addition, the PEMFC net system efficiency and parasitic power of air supply system are mainly compared for the two types (low-pressure operating and high-pressure operating) of automotive PEMFC systems under the same net power conditions. It is suggested that the obtained results from this system approach can be applied for establishing the novel operating strategies for FC vehicles.

  • The regulator that was designed for space use must be operating on the severe circumstance. For example, operating temperature is below 90K and operating pressure is 20.7 MPa. The design of regulator for liquid propulsion system was accomplished and dynamic characteristic was analyzed successfully.
