For safe and stable operations of power plants, it is essential to monitor closely crucial measurement values related to power plant trips. In this paper, an intelligent power plant operating state monitoring technique enabling the operating crew member to monitor conveniently the status of the important measurement values and to perceive almost instantly the significance of the implications of those measurement values is developed. The proposed technique is called a "POST(Plant Operating State Tracking) Chart" technique and provides the foundations in developing an intelligent and integrated power plant operating state monitoring support system called the "P-OASIS"(Plant Operation Assessment and Support Intelligent System). The P-OASIS is applied to a thermal power plant of 500[MW] capacity and exhibited impressive performances.
This paper presents the technology of condition diagnosis & life estimation on insulation system of the traction motor. In the non-destructive methods for diagnosis of coil insulation state, residual dielectric strength is estimated by the D-map which consist of the partial discharge quantity Q and average degradation degree $\Delta$. In the operating history of machine, the N-Y life estimation method is based on the stop-starting numbers and operating times with considering each degradation factor by the thermal, electrical and heat-cycle stress. With the on-line conditioning monitoring on the currents of traction motors, detecting the abnormal operating state due to bearing faults, stator or armature faults, eccentricity related faults and broken rotor bars can be performed.
State estimators are used to monitor the operating states of power systems in modern EMS. It iteratively calculates the voltage profile of the currently operating power system with voltage, current, and power measurements gathered from the entire system. All the measurements are usually assumed to be obtained simultaneously. It is practically impossible, however, to maintain the synchronism of the measurement data. Recently, phasor measurements synchronized via satellite are used for the operation of these power systems. This paper describes the modified state estimator used to support the processing of synchronized phasor measurements. Synchronized phasor measurements are found to provide synchronism of measurement data and improve the accuracy/redundancy of the measurement data for state estimation. The details of the developed state estimation program and some numerical results of operation are presented.

We report the state of the development of monitoring system for 72.5kV GIS. In the first, the usual outline of the monitoring and diagnostic system for GIS was mentioned, and the detailed specifications and state of development were also described. Especially, we present items of monitoring for GIS such as the operating counter of CB, the leakage condition of $SF_6$ gas, the surge counter of LA and the leakage current of LA.

This paper focuses on identifying which appliance is currently operating by analyzing electrical load signature for home energy monitoring system. The identification framework is comprised of three steps. Firstly, specific appliance features, or signatures, were chosen, which are DC (Duty Cycle), SO (Slope of On-state), VO (Variance of On-state), and ZC (Zero Crossing) by reviewing observations of appliances from 13 houses for 3 days. Five appliances of electrical rice cooker, kimchi-refrigerator, PC, refrigerator, and TV were chosen for the identification with high penetration rate and total operation-time in Korea. Secondly, K-NN and Naive Bayesian classifiers, which are commonly used in many applications, are employed to estimate from which appliance the signatures are obtained. Lastly, one of candidates is selected as final identification result by majority voting. The proposed identification frame showed identification success rate of 94.23%.
The purpose of this paper is to extensively review the condition monitoring (CM) techniques using empirical models in an effort to reduce or eliminate unexpected downtimes in general industry, and to illustrate the feasibility of applying them to the nuclear industry. CM provides on-time warnings of system states to enable the optimal scheduling of maintenance and, ultimately, plant uptime is maximized. Currently, most maintenance processes tend to be either reactive, or part of scheduled, or preventive maintenance. Such maintenance is being increasingly reported as a poor practice for two reasons: first, the component does not necessarily require maintenance, thus the maintenance cost is wasted, and secondly, failure catalysts are introduced into properly working components, which is worse. This paper first summarizes the technical aspects of CM including state estimation and state monitoring. The mathematical background of CM is mature enough even for commercial use in the nuclear industry. Considering the current computational capabilities of CM, its application is not limited by technical difficulties, but by a lack of desire on the part of industry to implement it. For practical applications in the nuclear industry, it may be more important to clarify and quantify the negative impact of unexpected outcomes or failures in CM than it is to investigate its advantages. In other words, while issues regarding accuracy have been targeted to date, the concerns regarding robustness should now be concentrated on. Standardizing the anticipated failures and the possibly harsh operating conditions, and then evaluating the impact of the proposed CM under those conditions may be necessary. In order to make the CM techniques practical for the nuclear industry in the future, it is recommended that a prototype CM system be applied to a secondary system in which most of the components are non-safety grade. Recently, many activities to enhance the safety and efficiency of the secondary system have been encouraged. With the application of CM to nuclear power plants, it is expected to increase profit while addressing safety and economic issues.
Tribologicsl diagnostics as the ensemble of means and methods of continuous monitoring of the state of friction characteristics of moving junctions is playing an ever important part in the development of friction, lubrication, and wear theory end practice. The scheme presenting the main areas of tribological diagnostics is given in Fig. I. This growing part of TD is determined by the general tendency of modern technology, expressed in an attempt to organically combine the functions of measuring, evaluating, and predicting the parameters and characteristics of the processee taking place in the operating device. The logical result of this integration in future is the closed system correcting its operation in accordance with sn established program. Unfortunately, tribotechnicsl devices are still very far from such an ideal system at the present time. While in the friction assemblies with hydrodynamic lubrication it is possible in the first approximation to realize feed-backs in the lubricant circulation system with the aid of monitoring of the pressure, temperature and filtration, in the systems operating without lubrication and with boundary lubricetion even the process of selection of the diagnostic parameters has not been completed.
Since the access to Station Control Computers(DCCs) is restricted to the main control room(MCR). the operating data of power plants can't be easily analyzed and effectively managed. It is possible to reduce waste of time and human energy by means of building the Remote Monitoring Network of DCCs connected to Local Area Network. automatizing collection and analysis of DCC data. gathering the operating state of power plants. and managing systematically. Furthermore. this system help preventing trip by means of analyzing the data promptly and watching main system continuously.
