Heat Sink Design Optimization using Genetic Algorithm (Genetic Algorithm을 활용한 Heat Sink 최적 설계)

  • This paper presents the single objective design optimization of plate-fin heat sink equipped with fan cooling system using Genetic Algorithm. The proper heat sink and fan model are selected based on the previous studies. And the thermal resistance of heat sinks and fan efficiency during operation are calculated according to specific design parameters. The objective function is combination of thermal resistance and fan efficiency which have been taken to measure the performance of the heat sink. And Decision making procedure is suggested considering life time of semiconductor and Fan Operating cost. And also Analytical Model used for optimization is validated by Fluent, Ansys 13.0 and this model give a quite reasonable and reliable design.

  • This study investigates the electrical and collection characteristics of a wide plate spacing electrostatic precipitator (ESP), using a pilot-scale one. Electrical operating characteristics and collection efficiency were measured for various shapes of discharge electrodes. The collection plate spacing ranged from 300 to 550 mm. Results of electrical characteristic and collection efficiency tests as a function of collection plate spacing, discharge electrode type, applied voltage, and particle diameter were obtained. Increasing the collection plate pitch and altering the corona electrode geometry was found to increase the collection efficiencies without increasing input power requirement. The best efficiency is achieved for the discharge electrode of twisted pin type.

Fisheye Lens for Image Processing Applications

  • We have developed a miniature fisheye lens with $190^{\circ}$ field of view operating simultaneously in the visible and the near infrared wavelengths. The modulation transfer function characteristic for the visible wavelength is sufficient for a mega-pixel-grade image sensor. The lens also has a fair resolution in the infrared wavelength region. The calibrated $f-{\theta}$ distortion is less than 5%, and the relative illumination is over 90%. In consequence, a sharp wide-angle image can be obtained which is uniform in brightness over the entire range of field angles. The real image heights for the visible and the near infrared wavelengths have been fitted to polynomial functions of incidence angle with sub-pixel accuracies. Combined with the near equidistance projection scheme of the lens, this lens can be advantageously employed in various image-processing applications requiring a wide-angle lens.

New N-way Hybrid Power Combiner to Improve the Graceful Degradation Performance

  • In this paper, a new N-way hybrid power combiner for improving the graceful degradation performance has been proposed. The proposed combiner has been configured with two dummy transmission lines per each section, where each dummy transmission line has a different characteristic impedance, of the standard combiner. Under this proposed configuration, a detailed theoretical analysis has been performed to show the general function of a power combiner. When any M amplifiers among N identical amplifiers are suffering the failure mode in a power combining circuit or system, the graceful degradation performance has been improved due to the separation of a transmission line and an internal resistor in every failed section from the proposed combiner by simultaneously operating two shorting devices. Simulation results for all the items which can be measured from all the items which can be measured from the proposed combiner with an eight-way configuration have been presented.

  • In this paper the normalized innovations squared of a Kalman filter is used to detect a bias level in prediction errors due to target accelerations. The probability density function of the normalized innovation squared is obtained for a steady state Kalman filter, and it is used to calculate the detection probability of the bias level. A typical example is given to compute the detection probability and to plot the maneuver detector operating characteristic curves.

  • This paper analyzes the operation characteristics of a self excited induction generator with Steinmetz connection. For this analysis, the symmetrical components analysis is used to obtain the related expressions and the excitation capacitance and the magnetizing reactance are determined in turn by the condition of self excitation which includes the input impedance of the generator as viewed across load terminals. Two simultaneous equations of the condition of self excitation itself are solved by using the real and imaginary function in an application software. This method is applied to simulate the operation characteristics when the generator is driven at rated speed and the specified excitation capacitor is connected across the lagging phase. The results show that better operation characteristics except generated frequency are obtained by using relatively large excitation capacitance and resistive load.

  • A general equivalent circuit model is developed for a wireless energy transfer system composed of multiple coils via coupled magnetic resonances. To verify the developed model, four types of wireless energy transfer systems are fabricated, measured, and compared with simulation results. To model a system composed of n-coils, node equations are built in the form of an n-by-n matrix, and the equivalent circuit model is established using an electric design automation tool. Using the model, we can simulate systems with multiple coils, power sources, and loads. Moreover, coupling constants are extracted as a function of the distance between two coils, and we can predict the characteristics of a system having coils at an arbitrary location. We fabricate four types of systems with relay coils, two operating frequencies, two power sources, and the function of characteristic impedance conversion. We measure the characteristics of all systems and compare them with the simulation results. The flexibility of the developed model enables us to design and optimize a complicated system consisting of many coils.

  • The area under the curve(AUC) is commonly used as a measure of the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve which displays the performance of a set of binary classifiers for all feasible ratios of the costs associated with true positive rate(TPR) and false positive rate(FPR). In the bipartite ranking problem where one has to compare two different observations and decide which one is "better", the AUC measures the quantity that ranking score of a randomly chosen sample in one class is larger than that of a randomly chosen sample in the other class and hence, the function which maximizes an AUC of bipartite ranking problem is different to the function which maximizes (minimizes) accuracy (misclassification error rate) of binary classification problem. In this paper, we develop a way to construct the unified framework for AUC maximizer including support vector machines based on maximizing large margin and logistic regression based on estimating posterior probability. Moreover, we develop an efficient algorithm for the proposed unified framework. Numerical results show that the propose unified framework can treat various methodologies successfully.
