  • In general, it is difficult to measure dynamic responses of a bridge with stepwise increasing speed of a train during commercial service on a high speed railroad. However, before opening the 2nd stage of the Gyeongbu high speed railroad, there was an opportunity for field tests and measurements of the bridge with stepwise increasing speed(from 170km/ h to 315km/h). The measured responses were compared with the results of a developed bridge/train interaction analysis. Although good agreement was found throughout almost the entire range of speeds, relatively large differences were found in the vicinity of the critical speed at which resonance behavior of the bridge occurs. To investigate the cause of this, reanalyses are performed with re-estimated damping ratios from field tests.

  • The ambient temperature of the experimental conditions changes by varying the speed of the compressor and the electronic expansion valve opening. The effects of changing valve opening to the entire system has been investigated. The results show that the ambient temperatures of $35^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ controlled at 30Hz must be avoided. The capacity control range of the control compressor with changing speed is about 43~100% at $35^{\circ}C$, 43~100% at $25^{\circ}C$ and 48~100% at $10^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results show the capacity control range decreases with decreasing ambient temperature.

  • Subtidal surface currents are derived from HF radar measurements in the Saemangeum coastal ocean of the Yellow sea in July 2002 and from September to November 2004. The surface current field is analyzed to examine the effect of wind, river plume and coastline change on the spatial distribution and temporal variation of the surface currents. In July 2002, average wind speed was 0.5 m/s and freshwater discharge from the Keum River was $0.88{\times}10^7\;ton/day$. Temporal mean currents ($\overline{U}$) flow to the northwest with speed of $7{\sim}10\;cm/s$ near the Keum River estuary, to the west as fast as 13 cm/s near the opening gap of the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke, and to the northwest off the Gogunsan-archipelago. This flow pattern is a result of the Keum River plume dispersal and tide-residual currents from the opening gap of the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke. Time series of spatially-averaged current (<$U-\overline{U}$>) direction is highly (r=0.98) correlated with wind direction. From September to November 2004, the opening gap of the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke was closed, northwesterly wind blew with speed of 2.5 m/s on average and the Keum River discharge was $1.19{\times}10^7\;ton/day$. Temporal mean current field ($\overline{U}$) has weak surface flow in most of the coastal ocean and relatively strong currents flow to the southwest with speed of 10 cm/s along the shape coastline of the Gogunsan-archipelago and the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke. The strong flow is generated by the prevailing northwesterly wind which pushes the Keum River plume toward the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke. The residual currents from the opening gap of the Saemangeum $4^{th}$ dyke disappeared and correlation coefficient between time series of spatially-averaged current () direction and the wind direction is 0.69.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence that it has on the application pre and post balance index using method with spiral and reaction point balance taping application against 20 stroke patients. The taping application pre and post static eye opening balance index was statistically no significant difference in the Mean X Speed, and the Extent in X Dirction but in the Mean Y Speed, the Velocity Moment, and Extent in Y Direction, there were statistically significant difference(p<0.05). The taping application pre and post static eye closing balance inde was statistically no significant difference in the Mean X Speed, in Y Direction, there were statistically significant difference(p<0.05). From above results, the method of the applied taping was the equilibrium stability performance of the Y-axis than the stability of the balance of the X-axis, therefore it is considered to study the taping application method in the balance of detail stroke patients.

  • When a railway train enters a tunnel at high speed, a compression wave is formed in front of the train and propagates along the tunnel. The compression wave subsequently emerges from the exit of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise. In order to estimate the magnitudes of the noises and to effectively minimize them, the characteristics of the compression wave propagating in a tunnel must be understood. In the present paper, the experimental and analytical investigations on the attenuation and distortion of the propagating compression waves were carried out using a model tunnel. This facility is a kind of open-ended shock tube with a fast-opening gate valve instead of a general diaphragm. One-dimensional flow model employed in the present study could appropriately predict the strength of the compression wave, Mach number and flow velocity induced by the compression wave. The experimental results show that the strength of a compression wave decreases with the distance from the tunnel entrance. The decreasing rate of the wave strength and pressure gradient in the wave is strongly dependent on the strength of the initial compression wave at the tunnel entrance.

  • Nowadays communication network is steadily changing from a main body of telephone to a network which is creating new services such as multimedia etc. Jhis article introduces a bud of new service and new network which are able to sustain the above service. Including Korea, world advanced countries have been digitatizing their network with N-ISDN (narrowband ISDN) by e.g. 64K b/s and 1.5M b/s. New service by N-ISDN are extraordinary, though it can not solve all kinds of services. To solve these problems, a solving platform should be constituted. B-ISDN(broadband ISDN), as a platform has to be built to deal with almost all uinds of services, whatever the communication speed, communication mode or communication quality may be. Korea Telecommunication Authority(KTA) opened the narrowband ISDN(N-ISDN) at the end of 1993. This was one step previous opening of the broadband ISDN(B-ISDN) service scheduled to be rendered in 2001. B-ISDN, receiving and transmitting by far more information with high speed than the N-NSDN does, is one of G-7 Progects which the Korean government is driving foreward to raise the national scientific power to seven advan ced countries. This is also linked with an extremely high speed information network scheduled to be built by the Ministry of Communications in 2015.

  • Most of the work of construction equipment and agricultural machinery is done in off-road conditions. Autonomous driving required in these conditions uses GPS sensors, and PID controllers to control their speed and position. The hydrostatic steering, which is composed of a PSU, hydraulic hoses, and cylinders, rather than a mechanical coupling is used in these equipments. The PSU plays a key role in hydrostatic steering. Precise control of the position under various conditions requires detailed behavioral analysis of the basic components and operation. Two Gerotor PSU is now a commonly used safer option. The components of the PSU can be divided into mechanical and hydraulic actuating elements by its behavior. Since the system is combined by mechanical and hydraulic elements, the modelings are performed using Amesim, which is one of the most effective for the multi-domain dynamic system analysis. To confirm the validity of the model, input torque and pressures are checked with varying steering speed. The opening and the steering speed of normal and newly designed control valve set is investigated with the effect of centering spring force and friction. Finally, simulation results with fully detailed model with two gerotors are analyzed and compared with simple model.

  • For a sailing ship, the frictional resistance exerted on the hull of ship is due to viscous effect of the fluid flow, which is proportional to the wetted area of the hull and moving speed of ship. This resistance can be reduced through air bubble lubrication to the hull. The traditional way of introducing air to the wetted hull consumes extra energy to retain stability of air layer or bubbles. It leads to lower reduction rate of the net frictional resistance. In the present paper, a novel air bubble lubrication technique proposed by Kumagai et al. (2014), the Winged Air Induction Pipe (WAIP) device with opening hole on the upper surface of the hydrofoil is numerically investigated. This device is able to naturally introduce air to be sandwiched between the wetted hull and water. Propulsion system efficiency can be therefore increased by employing the WAIP device to reduce frictional drag. In order to maximize the device performance and explore the underlying physics, parametric study is carried out numerically. Effects of submerged depth of the hydrofoil and properties of the opening holes on the upper surface of the hydrofoil are investigated. The results show that more holes are favourable to reduce frictional drag. 62.85% can be achieved by applying 4 number of holes.

  • In order to investigate liquid fuel filming over the intake manifold wall, an electrode-type probe has been developed by lines of authors and this probe was employed in a single cylinder two and four-stroke cycle engine and in a four cylinder four-stroke engine operated by neat methanol fuel. The performance of the probe was dependent upon several parameters including the liquid fuel layer thickness, temperature, additive in the fuel, and electric power source (i.e., AC and voltage level) and was independent of other variables such as direction of liquid flow with respect to the probe arrangement. Several new findings from this study may be in order. The flow velocity of the fuel layer in the intake manifold of engine was about (if the air velocity in the steady state operation, the layer thickness of liquid fuel varied in both the circumferential and longitydinal directions. In the transient operation of the engine, the temporal variation of fuel thickness was determined, which clearly suggests that there was difference between fuel/air ratio in the intake manifold and that in the cylinder. The variation was greatly affected by the engine speed, fuel/air ratio and throttle opening. And the variation was also very significant from cylinder to cylinder and it was particularly strong different engine speeds and throttle opening.
