Study of Shock Tube for Wave Phenomenon in High Speed Railway Tunnel(1) - On the characteristics of Compression Wave - (고속철도 터널에서 발생하는 파동현상에 관한 충격파관의 연구(1) - 압축파의 특성에 대하여 -)

  • When a railway train enters a tunnel at high speed, a compression wave is formed in front of the train and propagates along the tunnel. The compression wave subsequently emerges from the exit of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise. In order to estimate the magnitudes of the noises and to effectively minimize them, the characteristics of the compression wave propagating in a tunnel must be understood. In the present paper, the experimental and analytical investigations on the attenuation and distortion of the propagating compression waves were carried out using a model tunnel. This facility is a kind of open-ended shock tube with a fast-opening gate valve instead of a general diaphragm. One-dimensional flow model employed in the present study could appropriately predict the strength of the compression wave, Mach number and flow velocity induced by the compression wave. The experimental results show that the strength of a compression wave decreases with the distance from the tunnel entrance. The decreasing rate of the wave strength and pressure gradient in the wave is strongly dependent on the strength of the initial compression wave at the tunnel entrance.

  • This paper on analysis of roundness error after boring turning of Al-6061 materials with CNC lathe. Experiment applying turning parameters is based on experimental design method. A design and analysis of experiments is conducted to study the effects of these parameters on the roundness error using the S/N ratio and analysis of ANOVA. Multiple linear regression analysis is applied to compare experimental with predicted data in consideration of roundness error. To fixation pressure and the opening which are a turning parameter, the cutting depth and feed speed respected the objective attainment of dissertation and to be applied the result they investigated.

  • In the process of oyster mushroom production, loading work of culture medium needs the most intensive labor power. Therefore, development of culture medium machine causes to reduce the manpower and cost. The main objective of this study is to develop the culture medium loading machine and investigate the optimal operation conditions and to evaluate the economic value of the machine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Optimum transporting velocity of the conveyor was 0.61 m/s 2. Optimum speed of blower was 3183 rpm at the transporting velocity of 0.61 m/s with the loading quantity of 3.41 t/hr 3. Recommendable opening area ratio of pressure controller was 1/2 at the blower speed of 3183 rpm and the transporting velocity of 0.61 m/s 4. The break even point resulted in $240\;m^2$ of cultivating area compared to the method of with portable workbench, and $350\;m^2$ of cultivating area compared to the method of with a tractor and a truck.

  • The effect of unattached valve leaflet on flow field downstream of a floating and flapping polyurethane heart valve prosthesis was investigated. With a triggering system and a time-delay circuit the instantaneous velocity field downstream of the valve was measured by particle image velocimetry (PIV) in conjunction with the opening posture of a flexible valve leaflet during a cardiac cycle. Reynolds shear stress distribution was calculated from the velocity fields and wall shear stress was directly measured by hot-film anemometry (HFA). The floating motion of the valve leaflet resulted in the reduction of pressure drop and recirculating flow region downstream of the valve.

  • Fluid-borne noise produced by seawater circulating pumps propagates through the seawater connected pipes and radiates from the hull opening of a ship. This noise causes the increases of underwater radiated noise and self noise of ship. To reduce the noise propagation through the seawater connected pipes, absorptive silencer must be needed. In this paper, theoretical model to analyze the transmission loss of absorptive silencer was presented and the design parameters of absorptive silencer were verified. Theoretical calculations were performed according to a thickness, a length, an internal pressure and mechanical properties of its absorptive material in order to analyze the characteristics of absorptive silencer. From the theoretical calculation results, the absorptive silencer was manufactured and transmission loss was measured in the test facilities. The results of theory and measurement are compared and discussed.

  • The electro-hydraulic servo winch system built in a automatic tension control equipment was designed with a latent need for an advanced system in fishing operations of the inshore and coastal fishing vessels. In order to keep the constant tension condition of warp under loading, a tension control circuit was added to the servo winch system.The dynamic performance in the open loop behaviour of the designed winch system was investigated and its applicability was tested for various possibilities of load using a load generator especially developed in order to this study.The mechanical characteristics of this system is different from that of a conventional type, that is, the tension, length, line speed and drum revolution can be automatically controlled by the information from various sensors, such as torque, rpm and pressure transducers. from the experiment results, it was verified that the servo winch system has very good output and tracking behaviour for the control input signals in different operating conditions though overshoot of out 8% in the transient characteristics of torque under the load though a overshoot of about 8% in the transient characteristics of torque under the load condition can be observed when the opening of servo valve, adjustable by the input voltage between - 10 V up to 10 V, changed suddenly.Consequently, the improved fishing winch system can be effectively used as the automatic shooting and hauling equipment of low cost for small inshore and coastal fishing vessels which engage in net fishing.

  • InGaAs/GaAs quantum wire structures were grown by low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition by using selective area epitaxy.$ In_{ 0.2}$$Ga_{0.8}$ As/GaAs quantum wire structures were grown on a $SiO_2$ masked GaAs substrate. Quantum wire structures with sharp tips and smooth side walls were grown. We have grown InGaAs/GaAs quantum wire structures using variously opened width of the $SiO _2$ mask. Even though the opening widths of $SiO_2$ masked GaAs substrate were different, similar shapes of triangular structures were grown. Using various kinds of differently opened $SiO_2$ masked area, it would be possible to grow quantum wire structures with various thicknesses. The quantum wire structures are formed near the pinnacle of the triangular structure. Therefore, the fabrication of the uniquely designed integrated optical devices which include light emitting sources of multiple wavelength is possible.

  • The flow and combustion patterns have been investigated inside the gasoline engine cylinder with the swirl or tumble flow, whereas the air flow characteristics, which are generated in the part of intake system before entering into the intake manifold, have not been known completely. It is necessary to analyze the flow field in the intake system consisting of air rater, throttle valve and intake manifold. The throttle valve, used to control the intake air flow rate, is important because it makes various mass flow rate and flow patterns. Three-dimen-sional How characteristics such as velocities, turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stresses are measured by the hot wire anemometer at the exit of the throttle valve with the variation in the valve opening angle($15^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$) and the Reynolds numbers (45000, 70000 and 140000). There are a lot of changes in flow characteristics at $75^{\circ}$ due to the large recirculation flow comparing with those of the other cases, and the streamwise velocity is especially enforced strongly below the valve shaft. The other component velocities are relatively large near the centerline parallel to the valve shaft. The effects of the Reynolds number on the flow field are not severe.

Development of Compression Garments for Breast Augmentation Patients (유방 확대수술 환자용 압박의류 개발)

  • It is essential to apply compression bands or pressure garments that can stabilize the breast implants and breast shape as well as help shape the breast to the desired shape immediately after breast augmentation surgery. It is necessary to study the compression garment which is able to properly cover a deformed breast due to the operation and shape it as a beautiful breast. The subjects of the study were 6 women who experienced breast augmentation surgery with an under bust size of 70 or 75, cup size of C cup with a hemispherical and conical shape. We analyzed the dissatisfaction and satisfaction factors through the evaluation of the 4 types of commercial compression garments and developed the new functional post-operative bra which can be worn immediately after the operation according to the breast characteristics of breast augmentation patients. We have developed new bra patterns; a front opening type garment with wings and a band type garment both sides that allow the band to be pressed from the front center. The comparative wearing evaluation indicated that the superiority of the new compression garments also provided a higher the satisfaction of the newly developed bra (front adjustable style) than a commercial band.

  • Geological and geophysical surveys were performed to examined the cause of the rock-mass slide occurred at the opening site of the Wanglim tunnel of the Seoul-Pusan High Speed Railway. The results of geophygical survey and geometrical analysis for the geological structures indicate that the rock-mass slide was triggered by the heavy rainfall which increases the groundwater level and results in high pore pressure in the N60$^{\circ}$ E-trending major fractured zone of the slope, and that the foliation dipping toward the vertical open face of the slope acted as a main sliding plane during movement.
