  • The fatigue tests were performed on the high strength concrete beams with single edged notch which was reinforced steel fiber. The steel fibers were used 1.0 percent by volume fraction. These were tested consists of constant amplitude tests for different levels of loading. The test program included endurance limit with repect to flexural fatigue and relation of load-CMOD(crack mouth opening displacement). The results of test, it is found from S-N curve that the fatigue strength for a life of 2 million cycles of load was approximately 70percent with respect to the static ultimate strength .

Computer aided reinforcement design of RC structures

  • In this study, a design process for reinforced concrete structures using the nonlinear FEM analysis is developed. Instead of using the nonlinear analysis to evaluate the required performance after design process, the nonlinear analysis is applied before designing the reinforcement arrangement inside the RC structures. An automatic reinforcement generator for computer aided reinforcement agreement is developed for this purpose. Based on a nonlinear FEM program for analyzing the reinforced concrete structure, a smart fictitious material model of steel, is proposed which can self-adjust the reinforcement to the required amount at the cracking location according to the load increment. Using this tool, the reinforcement ratio required at design load level can be decided automatically. In this paper, an example of RC beam with opening is used to verify the proposed process. Finally, a trial design process for a real size underground RC LNG tank is introduced.

짧은균열의 피로성장거동 (Fatigue Growth Behavior of Short Cracks)

  • The fatigue growth behavior of short cracks were studied various load ratios. Computer-aided unloading elastic compliance method was employed to measure the closure and the length of short cracks. In the dc/dN-$\Delta$K relationships. the decreasing behavior of the growth rate of short cracks is due to the decrease of crack opening ratio with increasing crack length. Irrespective of load ratio. the growth rate of short cracks can be well decribed in terms of the effective stress intensity factor range $\Delta$K$_{eff}$, which is calculated on the base of crack closure. dc/dN-$\Delta$K$_{eff}$ relationships of short cracks are found to coincide well with the corresponding long crack relationships. accordingly. the growth rate of short cracks can be predicted using that of long cracks.ort cracks can be predicted using that of long cracks.cks.

Structural Behavior of Cement Concrete Pavement at Transverse Joint Using Model Test

  • This paper presents behavior of concrete pavement at transverse joint subject to static test load. The test was conducted on 1/10 scale model in the laboratory. Load transfer across the crack is developed either by the interlocking action of the aggregate particles at the faces of the joint or by a combination of aggregate interlock and mechanical devices such as dowel bars. In this study, significant three variables considered to the performance of joints were selected. : (a)diameter of dowel bars(2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm), (b)presence or absence of dowel bars, (c)aggregate types(crushed stone, round stone). Experimental results were analyzed to find relationships among displacement of discontinuous plane at jointed slab, load transfer efficiency and joint opening, etc. Displacement of discontinuous plane at joint was decreased according to the increase of dowel bar diameter. In addition, it is found that model slabs made using crushed stone had better load transfer characteristics by aggregate interlock than model slabs made using similarly graded round stone. Displacement of discontinuous plane was increased according to the increase of loading. In addition, it was decreased as dowel diameter(2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm) was increased. In the case of slab without dowel bars, displacement of discontinuous plane was greatly increased and load transfer effciency of slab applied crushed stone was shown 30 percent greater than round stone. In addition, load transfer efficiency of slabs, which were made using crushed and round stone without dowel bars, was decreased to 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively as it was compared with slabs made us-ing dowel bars.

냉동 물류 창고 내 도크시스템을 통한 에너지 손실량 분석 (Analysis of Amount of Energy Loss for a Dock System in the Cold Distribution Center)

  • In this study, energy loss due to ventilation load in the dock system was analyzed through simulation. Also, flow generated in the dock system of the warehouse was measured using manufactured measuring devices. Numerical simulation was conducted by simulating the most common picking tasks by examining the actual working environment. Incompressible and unsteady turbulent flows were assumed, and the turbulence model was the k-e standard model. Proper grid was selected through grid dependency test. Measurement was conducted using Honeywell and Vaisala sensors, and flow and temperature inside the warehouse were measured and compared with simulation results to validate simulation. When comparing amount of loss occurring in two hours and amount of loss occurring in 15 minutes, docking time of the former was eight times longer but energy loss was 3.8 times lower. Ventilation load occurring during the initial period after opening docking system accounted for a large proportion of total ventilation load. Also, comparing the load when the dock was closed and the load when the truck was parked, ventilation load was significantly higher than load due to heat conduction from the wall. Therefore, in improving the docking system, it is effective to reduce the gap by improving compatibility of the docking system and truck, rather than wall material.

  • Safety valve used in LNG/LNG-FPSO ships is a high value valve, and it plays an important role in maintaining a fixed level of pressure by emitting LNG gas out of pipes in LNG piping system under the cryogenic and high-pressure condition when the pressure of the system connected with the LNG storage tank and pipes reaches over the set pressure. The structural stability is required for the inner pressure and thermal load because of the cryogenic and high-pressure condition, and a reliability of the safety valve is necessary for impact and deformation by opening the valve. But, the safety valve, which plays a key role for a safety of the transport and storage system, is depended on imports for over 90%, and in domestic production, the design of the valve is performed on the basis of experiences of the works without quantitative analysis for the inner operation characteristics and structural stability of the valve. In this study, impact velocity is calculated by theoretical analysis for obtaining the structural stability of the guide according to the impact load by opening the valve. The shape of the guide and the diaphragm for satisfying the structural stability are suggested and verified by using a thermal-structural analysis.

C형 접합부를 이용한 프리캐스트 콘크리트 전단벽의 거동 (Behavior of Precast Concrete Shear Walls with C-Type Connections)

  • 이 논문은 새로운 수직 접합부를 가진 프리캐스트 벽체의 거동에 관한 연구이다. PC 벽체를 이용한 리모델링 건설을 위해서는 효율적이고 경제적인 조립 방법이 필요하다. C형 수직 접합부를 가진 PC 벽체 시스템은 수직방향의 벽체 사이의 휨모멘트를 전달하도록 하고, 반면에 벽체 중심에 있는 전단키는 전단력을 부담하도록 하였다. 제안된 수직 접합부는 벽체 단부에 서로 다른 방향의 슬롯 때문에 조립이 용이하다. 횡력을 받는 일자형 PC 벽체 시스템을 강성, 강도 그리고 파괴 모드에 대해 기존의 RC 벽체와 비교하였으며, 힘과 처짐과의 관계와 접합부의 조기파괴에 관해 알아보았다. 실험 결과 벽체 단부에 설치된 수직 철근이 먼저 항복하였고, 최종 변형은 접합부의 조기 파괴에 의해 결정되었다. 그리고 벽체에서 효과적인 전단력 전달을 위한 대각선 철근은 그다지 효과적이지 않았다. 단면 해석을 통해 구한 강도와 변형은 실험값과 대체로 일치하였다. 특히, 개폐거동에 의한 변형이 가장 큰 비율을 차지하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 입자강화 복합재료의 파괴거동을 평가하기 위해 쐐기분열시험을 수행하였다. 균열 저항성을 분석하기 위해 균열선단열림변위(CTOD)와 균열선단열림각도(CTOA)를 이용하였다. 사용된 입자강화 복합재료는 특성상 온도와 하중속도에 영향을 많이 받기 때문에 다양한 온도($-60^{\circ}C{\sim}50^{\circ}C$)와 하중속도(5~500mm/min)조건에서 시험을 수행하였다. 또한 균열선단에 대한 변형률장을 분석하기 위해 디지털 이미지 상관법(DIC)을 이용하였다. 시험결과 파괴에너지는 온도가 감소할수록 증가하였으며, 하중속도가 증가할수록 균열저항성이 증가하였다.

An experimental and numerical investigation on fatigue of composite and metal aircraft structures

  • The static strength and fatigue crack resistance of the aircraft skin structures depend on the materials used and joint type. Most of the commercial aircraft's skin panel structures are made from aluminium alloy and carbon fibre reinforced epoxy. In this study, the fatigue resistance of four joint configurations (metal/metal, metal/composite, composite/composite and composite/metal) with riveted, adhesive bonded, and hybrid joining techniques are investigated with experiments and finite element analysis. The fatigue tests were tension-tension because of the typical nature of the loads on aircraft skin panels susceptible of experimenting fatigue. Experiment results suggest that the fatigue life of hybrid joints is superior to adhesive bonded joints, and these in turn much better than conventional riveted joints. Thanks to the fact that, for hybrid joints, the adhesive bond provides better load distribution and ensures load-carrying capacity in the event of premature adhesive failure while rivets induce compressive residual stresses in the joint. Results from FE tool ABAQUS analysis for adhesive bonded and hybrid joints agrees with the experiments. From the analysis, the energy release rate for adhesive bonded joints is higher than that of hybrid joints in both opening (mode I) and shear direction (mode II). Most joints show higher energy release rate in mode II. This indicates that the joints experience fatigue crack in the shear direction, which is responsible for crack opening.

수소 장입 장치를 활용한 액체수소 저장시스템 강재의 CTOD 시험 분석 (Analysis of CTOD Tests on Steels for Liquefied Hydrogen Storage Systems Using Hydrogen Charging Apparatus)

  • Hydrogen infiltration into metals has been reported to induce alterations in their mechanical properties under load. In this study, we conducted CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement) tests on steel specimens designed for use in liquid hydrogen storage systems. Electrochemical hydrogen charging was performed using both FCC series austenitic stainless steel and BCC series structural steel specimens, while CTOD testing was carried out using a 500kN-class material testing machine. Results indicate a notable divergence in behavior: SS400 test samples exhibited a higher susceptibility to failure compared to austenitic stainless steel counterparts, whereas SUS 316L test samples displayed minimal changes in displacement and maximum load due to hydrogen charging. However, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis results presented challenges in clearly explaining the mechanical degradation phenomenon in the tested materials. This study's resultant database holds significant promise for enhancing the safety design of liquid hydrogen storage systems, providing invaluable insights into the performance of various steel alloys under the influence of hydrogen embrittlement.
