Despite current regulations requiring social distancing due to coronavirus disease 2019, problem-based learning (PBL) requires student interaction to achieve common goals and enhance critical thinking and deep learning abilities. Social presence in the online education environment reduces both perceptions of physical distance and psychological distance in interactions. This study aimed to compare PBL activities between in-person and videoconferencing classes, and to investigate social presence and learning satisfaction in a videoconferencing PBL environment. The PBL consisted of six modules for both the first and second years of Chonnam National University Medical School. As social distancing was strengthened, the second class of the fifth module in both years was converted to an online format and the fifth module was excluded. The first four PBL modules were conducted as in-person classes, but the last PBL module was administered via videoconferencing. After the final PBL module, 100 (81.3%) first-year medical students and 90 (79.6%) second-year students were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire on social presence and learning satisfaction. There were no significant differences in the small group activities of tutorial sessions between in-person and videoconferencing classes. In the online videoconferencing class, students who had favorable attitudes toward the tutors' social role and interactions with peers showed high satisfaction with their learning. In conclusion, online videoconferencing allows students to simultaneously perceive their interactions with others and social presence, even at a distance. Tutors can enhance a sense of online community and collaborative learning as facilitators of online PBL.

The Online business model for purchasing agent service is getting more popular. However, consumers perceive more risk when buying products from foreign online purchasing agents (FOPA) than from common online sellers (COS). This study focuses on finding out how consumers manage risk when they perceive risk and what different risk-reliever strategies they use when buying from high-risk FOPA and low-risk COS. This study has proved the following two. First, when consumers perceive risk at online purchasing, they tend to select risk-reliever strategies, such as the use of communication media, online assurance mark, seller's record, and secure payment to mitigate risk. With the application of those risk-reliever strategies, they built trust with the seller. Second, risk-perception of FOPA influences usage of communication media and check of online assurance mark more strongly than that of COS. On the contrary, risk-perception of COS influences the check of seller record more strongly than that of FOPA. This study helps to explain why FOPA is proliferating, despite its inherent high risk due to the fact that buyers and sellers are separated in time and space and that buyers and sellers have different social and cultural backgrounds. This study also helps managers of E-commerce to relieve consumer's risk-perception and to build trust.

Performing an online health search is a popular activity conducted on the Internet. Research studies from developed countries provide information on source used, type of search performed and devices used to perform the search. However, the same cannot be said about the online health information searching scene in South East Asia. Online health information searching is gaining popularity in South East Asia. Citizens in these countries are turning to the Internet to obtain health information quickly. Current research studies pertaining to online health information searching in South East Asian is limited, particularly relating to search experiences of South East Asian health searchers. Search experience is pertinent as it could deter or encourage the possibility of conducting future health searches. In this research study, a user study was conducted to describe the online search experience of South East Asian health searchers. A face to face interview with 50 participants was conducted. The interview was audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Results indicate participants have positive and negative search experiences. In some cases, post search outcomes influenced the search experience. Results of this research study contribute to the growing domain of knowledge in relation to online health information searching. Results of this study also provide an understanding pertaining to the search experience of South East Asian online health searchers.

This study aims to analyze the structure and characteristics of the domestic online game industry using network analysis. In particular, two-mode network analysis is employed to measure the network structure, centrality, and cluster for two types of online game platforms, online games and mobile games, from 1996 to 2014. We also conduct a dynamic analysis to capture the structural changes in the ecosystem by internal and external environmental changes before and after turning point for each online game platform. It is revealed that the online game econsystem has the higher number of clusters and higher concentration ratio than those of mobile game ecosystem. In dynamic analysis, both platforms exhibit similar trends over time with the increasing number of clusters, enlargement of largest cluster's size, and decreasing concentration ratio. This study is expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.

The goal of this study was to explore the use of multiple SNS platforms and determine whether the number of used platforms affects one's online self-presentations across the said platforms and if there is any difference in one's online and offline self-presentations based on how many SNS platforms are used. This work studied online self-presentations, compared the on/offline ones and tried to find out if the inconsistencies of one's own (observer's) self-presentations both online (across platforms) and on/offline affected the observer's impression formation (likability, trustworthiness and hypocrisy) of others. The study also aimed to find out if the impression of the others' inconsistency both online and offline would differ based on the level of intimacy between the observer and the discussant. Three levels of intimacy were studied in order to do this: friends, acquaintances and strangers (online-only friends). The results showed that the more platforms people used the more inconsistent their online self-presentations got. Even though the results of the study showed barely significant relationship between the number of SNS accounts and one's online and offline self-presentation, and partial connection between observer's inconsistent self-presentations and impression formation of others, interestingly enough, the results managed to find significant differences between the impressions based on the level of intimacy between the observer and the discussants.

A novel inverse kinematics solution based on the back propagation neural network (NN) for redundant manipulators is developed for online obstacles avoidance. A laser transducer at the end-effctor is used for online planning the trajectory. Since the inverse kinematics in the present problem has infinite number of joint angle vectors, a fuzzy reasoning system is designed to generate an approximate value for that vector. This vector is fed into the NN as a hint input vector rather than as a training vector to guide the output of the NN. Simulations are implemented on both three- and four-link redundant planar manipulators to show the effectiveness of the proposed position control system.
Individualized instruction only in the off-line classroom is not enough because elementary school students have various levels and tendencies. In recent years there are a lot of efforts to use online learning, and they are valuable. But the current online learning management systems are not utilized effectively in the elementary school. So this study suggests utilization plan of online learning management system through Moodle which can present and perform both learning objectives and learning contents for individualized instruction in elementary schools.
The parameters of transmission lines have an influence on the electromagnetic environment surrounding the line. This paper proposes a method based on phasor measurement unit (PMU) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) to achieve online estimation of transmission line full parameters, such as resistance, reactance and susceptance. The proposed full parameter estimation method is compared with the traditional method of estimating resistance independently based on SCADA system. Then, the electromagnetic environment is analyzed based on the different parameter estimation methods. The example results illustrate that online estimation of transmission line full parameters is more accurate in the analysis of electromagnetic environment, which further confirms its necessity and significance in engineering application.
This case study explored the potential for implementing content-based English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction in a Korean middle school facilitated by computer-mediated communication (CMC). The instructor scaffolded the student participant's language learning online, helping her to produce English output on her own. While experimental social studies lessons on the topic of stereotyping were taught, data were collected on the student's online exchanges with her counterpart in Iran about their respective cultures. Findings show that the student from Korea was able to better understand her own culture as a result of the online experience. This interaction and the in-class lessons have demonstrated that content-based EFL instruction is a viable alternative to the school's existing curriculum.
