Current Status of Patient Safety Regulations, Guidelines and Support Mechanisms in Korean Hospitals

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate patient safety regulations and guidelines in order to understand their current status, and to examine support measures to improve patient safety in Korean hospitals. Methods: The participants were the safety officers from hospitals with 200 or more beds and 112 hospitals responded to the online survey. The questions covered patient safety regulations, the performance level of patient safety activities, patient safety incident reporting systems, the dedicated professional, training, support mechanisms, and expectations of reporting systems. Results: Among preventative measures, fall prevention and hand hygiene were reported to be most widely practiced (92% and 91%, respectively). Time-out for invasive procedures showed a relatively low practice rate at 70%. Among patient care activities, transfusion, surgery and sedation, medication, and infection management were performed by 84, 74, 93 and 93% of the hospitals, respectively. Patient safety activities included patient safety committee, patient safety cooperation between decision-making bodies, patient safety workshops, seminars, lectures, and training for employees. Conclusion: Patient safety regulations and guidelines have not yet been sufficiently prepared, and a public institution such as a certification authority is of crucial importance to enforce these guidelines.

Analyzing Learners Behavior and Resources Effectiveness in a Distance Learning Course: A Case Study of the Hellenic Open University

  • Learning analytics, or educational data mining, is an emerging field that applies data mining methods and tools for the exploitation of data coming from educational environments. Learning management systems, like Moodle, offer large amounts of data concerning students' activity, performance, behavior, and interaction with their peers and their tutors. The analysis of these data can be elaborated to make decisions that will assist stakeholders (students, faculty, and administration) to elevate the learning process in higher education. In this work, the power of Excel is exploited to analyze data in Moodle, utilizing an e-learning course developed for enhancing the information computer technology skills of school teachers in primary and secondary education in Greece. Moodle log files are appropriately manipulated in order to trace daily and weekly activity of the learners concerning distribution of access to resources, forum participation, and quizzes and assignments submission. Learners' activity was visualized for every hour of the day and for every day of the week. The visualization of access to every activity or resource during the course is also obtained. In this fashion teachers can schedule online synchronous lectures or discussions more effectively in order to maximize the learners' participation. Results depict the interest of learners for each structural component, their dedication to the course, their participation in the fora, and how it affects the submission of quizzes and assignments. Instructional designers may take advice and redesign the course according to the popularity of the educational material and learners' dedication. Moreover, the final grade of the learners is predicted according to their previous grades using multiple linear regression and sensitivity analysis. These outcomes can be suitably exploited in order for instructors to improve the design of their courses, faculty to alter their educational methodology, and administration to make decisions that will improve the educational services provided.

Assessment of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine Clinical Practice Using the Objective Structured Clinical Examination

  • Background: The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is a widely used method to assess the clinical performance of students in clinical practice. Although OSCE has been used for undergraduate students of Korean medicine, this has not been widely reported. Methods: In 2020, the practical course for acupuncture and moxibustion medicine (acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, auricular acupuncture, and burning acupuncture) was taught using flipped learning, according to clinical practice guidelines, and assessed by the OSCE. The appropriateness of this model of education and its evaluation using OSCE were evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale, and the results were analyzed. Results: Of the respondents, 67% reported that the OSCE accurately reflected their competency, and 82% reported that online video lectures helped them to improve their clinical skills. The average adequacy score of the model was > 3.7/5, and the average adequacy score of the checklist used in the OSCE was > 4.1/5 for all 5 clinical application skills. The difference in the mean self-efficacy score between students who had taken the OSCE and those students who had not taken the OSCE, was highest in the burning acupuncture group (0.923). Conclusion: This study showed that students' satisfaction with the OSCE was high and flipped learning was an effective education model. In the future, models representing the human body or simulated patients should be used to evaluate students' skills and attitude.

프로그래밍 언어 학습 시스템에서 객관식 문제의 난이도 균등화 알고리즘에 대한 연구 (A Study on Difficulty Equalization Algorithm for Multiple Choice Problem in Programming Language Learning System)

  • 플립러닝 방식의 프로그래밍 언어 학습 시스템에서 사이버 강의에 대한 평가는 일반적으로 온라인에서 객관식 문제로 진행된다. 이때 출제되는 문제는 문제은행에서 랜덤하게 추출하여 학습자 개개인에게 주어진다. 이러한 평가 결과가 성적에 반영되기 위해서는 시험 문제의 형평성이 무엇보다 중요하다. 특히 프로그래밍 언어 과목에서는 문제의 유형에 따라 학습자가 생각하는 난이도가 서로 다를 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 객관식 문제의 유형을 2가지로 분류하여, 각 유형별로 난이도를 관리한다. 그리고 문제의 난이도와 유형을 함께 고려한 문제 출제 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 제시된 알고리즘은 프로그래밍 언어 과목의 특성을 고려할 때 기존의 출제 방식에 비해 보다 공정하고 효율적임을 실험을 통해 확인할 수 있었다.

직업교육훈련을 위한 플립러닝 기반 교육모델 개발 (Development of Flipped Learning-based Educational Model for Vocational Education and Training)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 직업 교육훈련을 위한 플립러닝 기반 교육모델을 개발하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 선행 연구를 토대로 해당 직종에서의 플립러닝의 정의, 단계별 주요 학습활동, 운영 전략을 포함하는 교육모델을 도출하였다. 또한 HRD 및 직업교육훈련 전문가를 대상으로 적용 모델에 대한 타당도를 확보하기 위하여 2차례에 걸쳐 델파이 조사를 실시하였으며 유효성이 확인되었다. 최종적으로 개발된 직업교육훈련을 위한 플립러닝 교육모델은 사전학습-본학습-사후학습의 3단계로 구성되며, 사전학습 단계는 온라인 강의 수강-간단한 과제 수행, 본 학습 단계는 도입활동-능동적 학습활동 및 코칭-디브리핑 강의, 사후학습 단계는 개별 성찰-추가과제 수행 활동을 포함한다. 본 연구를 통해 개발한 교육모델은 직업교육훈련의 목표에 따라 유연하게 확장가능하며, 연계성과 훈련성과 향상에 초점을 두고 개발되었다.

성인학습자의 e-러닝 학업지속 장애요인에 대한 사례 연구:서울소재 H사이버대학을 중심으로 (Factors to Disturb Adult Learner's e-Learning Persistence: A Case Study of H-Cyber University in Seoul Korea)

  • 우리나라는 급속도로 고령사회에 진입하면서, 성인학습자들을 대상으로 사이버대학에서의 교육이 필요한 시점에 와 있다. 성인학습자들에 대한 교육은 평생교육관점에서 중요한 시사점을 가진다. 본 연구는 사이버대학 재학 성인학습자사례분석결과, 경제적 부담, 학습시간 부족, 디지털 리터러시 문제, 고립감, 상호작용 미비 등이 학업지속을 방해하는 장애요인으로 나타났다. 장학금제도는 상당히 등록금 부담을 완화시키는 요인으로 나타났다. 한편 사이버대학 재학생이 느끼는 고립감과 온라인상의 상호작용 부족문제는 오프라인특강 활성화로 완화가능하며, 성인학습자를 위한 컴퓨터사전 교육이 디지털 리터러시 문제를 해결하는데 기여할 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구의 의의는 외국의 온라인교육 중도탈락 연구들에서 중요한 변인으로 나타나지 않았던 경제적 부담과 학습시간부족이 우리 경우에는 중요하게 나타난 점이다.

Educational Contents for Concepts and Algorithms of Artificial Intelligence

  • 이 연구는 대학생들의 인공지능 소양을 신장하기 위한 교육 콘텐츠의 설계와 개발에 관한 것이다. 우선 인공지능 교육 콘텐츠를 설계하고 교육 프로그램을 구성하였다. 콘텐츠는 8개의 인공지능 영역에서 총 15차시로 구성되었다. 콘텐츠는 지식-기능-태도의 내용을 함께 담고 있으며 학습단계는 5단계로 구성하였다. 콘텐츠의 개발은 온라인 자료의 형태로 구성하고 시뮬레이션과 워크시트를 포함하였다. 또한 교수학습방법을 제공하고 각 콘텐츠별로 평가 문항을 개발하였다. 콘텐츠의 적합성을 살펴보기 위해 전문가 대상으로 타당도 검사를 실시하였다. 설계 내용에 대한 내용타당도 검사 결과 전체 평균은 .71이상을 나타냈고, 개발된 콘텐츠의 수업 적합도의 CVI값은 .82로 타당성이 높게 나왔다. 본 연구에서 개발된 콘텐츠들이 대학 교양교육에서 인공지능 소양을 향상시키기 위한 효과적인 프로그램으로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

Communicative Model of Educational Transformations in the Realities of (Post) Modernity

  • In the context of the pandemic, educational institutions had to ensure an instant transition to remote technological models of communication within the new conditions of the educational environment. The purpose of the academic paper lies in determining the role of the communicative model of educational transformations in the realities of (post) modernity. The research methodology is based on a survey of 120 students from 10 higher educational institutions (HEIs) of Ukraine through an online form regarding the importance of live communication during a pandemic. Results. The communicative model changed significantly during the pandemic - the interaction was mainly due to technologies. The research has identified four communication models of educational transformations under the conditions of the pandemic, depending on learning models. The first traditional model of distance learning involves distance learning; the second model involves contact remote training using remote educational technologies; the third model is blended learning, which combines remote and traditional learning formats, synchronous and asynchronous modes of interaction; the fourth model is traditional contact training. The empirical study of the effectiveness of communication models proves that live communication remains extremely important for learning and understanding of educational materials by students, and technology has provided support for such communication. Along with this, seminars and video lectures with presentations combining live communication and communication technologies are as important as digital learning tools. The most effective teaching method for mastering and memorizing educational material was a live dialogue with a teacher at seminars in ZOOM, followed by individual written assignments on the studied topic.

Nutrition education programs necessary for social welfare facilities for persons with disabilities: a cross-sectional study

  • Objectives: This study investigated the need for nutrition education aimed at improving the health of residents and users of social welfare facilities for persons with disability and aimed to provide basic information for developing a nutrition education program that meets the needs of the field. Methods: Altogether, 249 employees working in social welfare facilities for people with disabilities were included in the study. Data on the health status of residents/users, meal management, nutritional education, nutritional education needs, and awareness of nutritional education were obtained through online surveys. A descriptive analysis was conducted to analyze the demographic characteristics, needs, and perceptions of the respondents, and independent t-tests and χ2 tests were performed to analyze and compare the differences between residential and daycare facilities. Results: The majority of residents/users of social welfare facilities for persons with disabilities have developmental disabilities. When educating residents with residents/users of social welfare facilities, 'personal hygiene' was the most necessary topic, followed by 'obesity management' education. Regarding the methods of providing education, face-to-face lectures demonstrated a high demand. They responded that when nutrition education experts provide nutrition education to people with disabilities, they must understand 'the physical characteristics of persons with disabilities' and have the ability to determine appropriate nutrition for such people. The most appropriate nutrition program training would be twice a year, lasting 30 min to 1 h per training session. Conclusions: It will present a direction for operating a nutrition education program for persons with disabilities that meets their needs of social welfare facilities and ultimately contribute to the establishment and activation of nutrition education tailored to welfare facilities for such individuals in Korea.

사이버대학 성인학습자의 모바일러닝 활용실태 분석 및 학업성취도에 대한 모바일러닝 관련 인식의 영향 탐색 (An analysis of the mobile learning usages of adult learners and the effects of their perceptions of mobile learning to their learning achievements in a cyber-university)

  • 본 연구는 사이버대학 성인학습자의 모바일러닝 시스템 활용실태를 분석하고 이들의 모바일러닝 관련 인식이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 탐색하였다. 2013학년도 1학기 국내 한 사이버대학에 등록한 재학생중 1,118명을 연구대상으로 선정하여 이들의 인구학적 정보, 모바일러닝 활용실태 및 이에 대한 인식수준(모바일 자기효능감, 용이성, 유용성, 만족도), 학업성취도를 수집하여 분석에 활용하였다. 연구목적에 따라 연구결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구대상자들은 선행연구의 결과와 비교할 때 최신 모바일기기를 활용하여 보다 적극적으로 모바일러닝에 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학습보조자료의 제공, 동영상강의에 대한 확충 등이 보완사항으로 제시되었다. 둘째, 연령이 높은 연구대상자들의 모바일러닝에 대한 전반적 인식수준이 낮은 집단에 비하여 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 현 상황에서 모바일러닝 관련 변인이 학업성취도에 기여하는 정도는 제한적이었다. 특히 모바일러닝의 유용성과 학업성취도 간 관계를 고려할 때 모바일러닝의 질적 수준을 높이기 위한 노력이 꾸준히 이루어져야 할 것으로 보인다.
