The Study of Comparing Korean Consumers' Attitudes Toward Spotify and MelOn: Using Semantic Network Analysis

  • This study examines Korean users' attitudes and emotions toward Melon and Spotify, which lead the music streaming market. We used Text Mining, Semantic Network Analysis, TF-IDF, Centrality, CONCOR, and Word2Vec analysis. As a result of the study, MelOn was used in a user's daily life. Based on Melon's advantages of providing various contents, the advantage is judged to have considerable competitiveness beyond the limits of the streaming app. However, the MelOn users had negative emotions such as anger, repulsion, and pressure. On the contrary, in the case of Spotify, users were highly interested in the music content. In particular, interest in foreign music was high, and users were also interested in stock investment. In addition, positive emotions such as interest and pleasure were higher than MelOn users, which could be interpreted as providing attractive services to Korean users. While previous studies have mainly focused on technical or personal factors, this study focuses on consumer reactions (online reviews) according to corporate strategies, and this point is the differentiation from others.

The Impact of Blockchain Technology on the Music Industry

  • We have reviewed the potential impact of blockchain technology on the music industry by analyzing the views of academia and the industry experts. The music industry had rapid changes from the physical market to the digital market in the past decades. The consumers download and stream music online and mobile during the digital dominant market. While streaming music has been recently growing at a fast rate, fair distribution of revenue to the artists continues to be an issue. Some industry experts believe that the issue of fair distribution of revenue to the artist may be resolved using blockchain technology, while some are skeptical about the application or the duration of impact. The blockchain may enhance speedier payment using smart contracts, provide additional revenue and promote the music if excellent fan support is achieved. The positive impact on the music industry may only be possible if there are detailed consideration of the industry and careful understanding of the customers.

The Correlation between Online Comments before Broadcasting and Television Content Viewers' Behavior Pattern: The Anchoring Effect Perspective

  • This study investigated the television (TV) content viewers' behavior influenced by online communication at the choice of new TV series on a terrestrial streaming platform. For exploring the impact of the anchoring effect on the TV content consumption, this study analyzed the correlation between the first episode's TV ratings and the data of online comments or reactions. These data were potential audiences' communication, which were generated on the online article three weeks before the first broadcasting began. To avoid the crucial influence by external factors, such as season and social issue, the test was done with eight (8) TV series which have same genre (drama), similar core audience targeting (20-49's women), similar broadcasting period (Jun-Oct 2016), same scheduling (10.00 to 11.00 pm, weekdays) and aired on terrestrial TV platforms. This research found that not only the amount of comments and reactions, but also the attitude about the comments created before broadcasting, positively influence the audiences' decision-making behavior for new TV content choices. This investigation contributes to the literature on media economics and management by exploring the media content users' consuming behavior with behavioral economics perspectives (anchoring effect) and making a first step for finding a new effect on the media content consumption.

라이브 커머스의 의사사회적 상호작용이 경험 만족도에 미치는 영향 - 자아 이미지 일치성의 조절된 매개효과를 중심으로 - (The effect of live commerce's para-social interaction on satisfaction with the experience - Focused on the moderated mediation effect of self-image congruity -)

  • Live-streaming commerce business is growing as the consumption of video content and Smartphone shopping increases. This study examines the following three aspects: whether para-social interaction influences perceived interactivity; whether seller trust affects satisfaction with the experience; whether relationships are controlled by a moderated mediator of self-image congruity. An online survey was conducted with 203 women aged 20-30 years. They were asked to respond to the survey after watching a beauty category live-streaming commerce broadcast. The results revealed that the para-social interaction had a significant effect on perceived interactivity, seller trust and satisfaction with the experience. The findings also indicated that the perceived interactivity and seller trust mediated the relationship between para-social interaction and satisfaction with the experience. Regarding the mediated moderation effect of self-image congruity, it was statistically significant between para-social interaction and perceived interactivity through seller trust. A higher level of consumer's self-image congruity influenced the greater effect of para-social interaction on live commerce experience. This study makes important theoretical contributions to the para-social interaction in mobile commerce industry by emphasizing the mediating role of perceived interactivity and seller trust. This is achieved by examining the moderating effects of self-congruity on satisfaction with the experience. The results also verify the seller's crucial role in live-streaming commerce market which leads to the consumers greater fulfillment.

Anatomizing Popular YouTube Channels of English-speaking Countries

  • YouTube, the online video streaming platform, has become popular and influential around the globe. Due to the development of science and technology, people without expertise in filming can now easily produce their videos with unique content. Many people are more eager to become a popular YouTube creator because they can earn money by placing commercials or Products in Placement (PPL) in their video clips. However, it is yet unknown what genres of YouTube videos are popular. YouTube creators have their channels where they upload videos of a certain type of genre. This study investigates video genres of the top 250 YouTube channels in English-speaking countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia) using Social Blade, which is a research website. The ranking is set based on the number of times people watched a video ("Video Views"). We handsomely analyze popular genres of the channels and also the YouTube ecosystem, and it will be meaningful for today's new media era.

Exploring Charity Drive Content on YouTube: Focus on Shoot for Love

  • This study explores one of charity drive contents on YouTube channel. Due to the advance of science and technology, ordinary people come to make their own video content online, usually via YouTube. YouTube becomes number one online video storage/streaming platform, and many people upload their own video and they get attention and fame. This study analyzes various aspects of Shoot for Love, soccer-based charity drive videos shown on YouTube channel created in South Korea. Unlike popular videos in YouTube, Shoot for Love centers on charity by casting popular soccer players and celebrities. Especially, this study researches 1) Components 2) Traits of Components 3) Contents of Components in Shoot for Love. Throughout this, it not only analyzes unique aspects of Shoot for Love that show how and why YouTube content matters, but also suggest plausible methods to drive charity and institution are suggested that appeal to the public.

Intention to Subscribe to YouTube Channels: Trust in Creator and Trust in Content

  • This paper examines the features that make a YouTube channel attractive to users. Considering that drawing users' attention is challenging on this platform, where voluminous amounts of videos are available, it is crucial to identify the factors that make users intend to subscribe to a YouTube channel. In this study, we used an online survey to collect data from 1125 respondents and an SEM model using Smart PLS 3.2.8 to analyze it. The results show that integrity and familiarity with a YouTube channel are positively correlated with trust in its creator, which leads to subscribing to the YouTube channel; value and accuracy also positively affect intention to subscribe to a YouTube channel via trust in content. This study enriches the field of research about trust in the creator and trust in content.

Sac on Screen 사업 분석을 통한 온라인 공연 활성화 방안 연구 (A Study on Activation of Online Performances Using Sac on Screen Project Analysis)

  • 최근의 팬데믹 사태 이후, 온라인 공연 시장은 확대되고 있다. 그러나 국내 온라인 공연은 도입시기가 짧아 관련 선행연구나 성공사례가 부족하고 대부분 단발성 프로젝트에 그치거나 수익이 저조하여 본격적인 활성화 방안 연구가 필요하다. 이때 십 년 전부터 진행된 예술의 전당 Sac on Screen 사업은 자체 영상화 경험이 있고 상영작품 및 상영처 역시 다양하여 참조할 만하다. 또한 매년 만족도 조사를 실시하고 있어 근래 3년간의 자료 중, 고객의 목소리를 바탕으로 해당 사업을 평가하였다. 이후, 분석된 조사내용을 갖고 전문가 그룹을 통해 무료와 유료 버전의 비즈니스 모델 캔버스를 도출하였다. 종합 결과, 첫째로 온라인 공연에 대한 연구 확대, 둘째로 콘텐츠의 품질관리 책임의식 필요, 셋째로 콘텐츠 선택지의 다양성 강화, 넷째로 온라인 공연의 생동감 제고, 다섯째로 민간 차원의 투자 유치와 부가가치 상품 개발이 주요 시사점으로 도출되었다.

랜선관객 시스템 원가 분석 및 활성화 방안 연구 (A study on the Cost Structure and the Revitalization of Online Audience System)

  • In this study, we want to analyze the difference in cost structure for the LAN audience system, which emerged as an alternative to the existing audience system due to the influence of Covid-19, and to analyze the utilization of the LAN audience system. To this end, the incremental cost difference between the existing audience system and the LAN audience system in the production of the broadcast program was compared and analyzed through the broadcasting production case by the actually performed LAN audience system. According to the research, the existing audience system has a linear cost structure that increases with the number of audience participants, while the LAN audience system has a calculated cost structure that gradually increases with the range of audience participants. These findings indicate that the LAN-line audience system costs more than the audience system, but the total cost is lower than the audience system for a certain number of people or more. This is a supplement to the existing audience system, which could not attract more audiences due to the lack of production costs, suggesting that the online audience system plays a role in supplementing the open broadcasting production system.

줌(Zoom)연극의 특성에 따른 배우의 연기 접근 방법 연구 - 프로젝트, 홍도(2020)의 제작 과정을 중심으로 (A Study on Acting Approaches based on Characteristics of Zoom Theater - Focused on the Production Process of Project, Hong-Do 2020)

  • 코로나19의 출현 이후 국내외 공연계는 온라인 플랫폼을 활용해 다양한 예술적 실험을 시도하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 연극 공연을 위한 창작 도구로 활용된 줌(Zoom)의 기능적 특성에 주목하였다. 우선 줌을 활용한 국내외 연극 공연 사례와 그 특징들을 살펴본 후, 줌 연극 <프로젝트, 홍도 Project, Hong-Do>의 제작 단계를 리서치 중심의 프리-프로덕션(Pre-production)단계, 대본을 바탕으로 각 장면을 구성하는 장면 워크숍(Scene Workshop)단계, 장면별 실시간 녹화를 진행하는 레코딩(Recording) 단계와 공연을 상영하기 위한 스트리밍(Streaming) 단계로 구분하여 살펴봄으로써 줌을 통해 창작한 연극의 특성을 고찰할수 있었다. 또한 이러한 제작 과정에서 나타난 배우의 연기 접근 방법을 시선의 분리, 공간의 재인식, 표현적 제스처의 활용, 능동적 행동으로서의 리액션(Reaction)으로 상정하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 줌을 활용한 연극 작업의 지속적인 발전 가능성과 이에 따른 배우의 연기 접근 방법을 제안할 수 있었다.
