Recently the CGF/SAF (Computer Generated Force / Semi-Automated Force) technology has been getting attention to deal with the increasing complexity in a DM&S(Defence Modeling and Simulation) environment. OneSAF is one of well-known CGF/SAF systems, however, it is not able to support the DEVS framework which is an advanced discrete event based modeling and simulation environment. Especially, most DM&S systems in Korea has been developed on the basis of the DEVS framework. In this paper, we have proposed the agent-based SAF design methodology and tool for supporting DEVS M&S environment. The proposed SAF modeling tool is divided into two parts; the agent modeling part and SAF modeling part. In the agent modeling environment, the modeler can simply create the agent model by writing down the necessary rules. It also provides the agent testing environment so that the modeler maybe conveniently verify the prescribed agent model. The SAF model is finally created by combing the individual agents based on the pre-defined structure. DM&S engineers will be able to employ our tools and modeling methodology to design the DEVS-based DM&S system to be developed.

For military training and course-of-action analysis, OneSAF Int'l version being used in ROK Army has a limited capability to simulate NBC(nuclear, biological, and chemical) damages. For high-fidelity NBC combat simulation, it is required to visualize NBC contamination dispersion in consideration of weather conditions and terrain characteristics. However, OneSAF itself handling interaction among thousands of combat entities cannot carry out a simulation of NBC contamination dispersion because it brings about an excess burden. To resolve this problem, this research aims to design simulation federation for analysis on NBC operational effects. After examining design consideration to connect OneSAF and a NBC contamination dispersion model, we design a federation architecture that facilitates the interaction between OneSAF and a NBC contamination dispersion model. Afterwards, we implement a federation interface to share simulation data by publish-subscribe pattern and to translate them into the proprietary format for each model. We prove the possibility of federation between both models, as showing that dispersion of NBC contaminated cloud and changes in concentration are reflected in OneSAF-based engagement simulation.

Nowadays unmanned ground systems are used in supporting of surveillance and explosive ordnance disposal. Also, we expect that will be used to remarkably enhance combat capability through network-based cooperative operations with other combat systems. In order to effectively develop those unmanned systems, we needs a systematic method to analyze combat effectiveness and validate required operation capabilities. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to simulate remote-operated unmanned ground systems by using OneSAF, an US-Army simulation framework. First of all, we design a simulation model of unmanned system by integrating with core components for wireless communications and remote control of mobility and fire. Next, we extend OneSAF functionality to create communication links that connects a remote controller with an unmanned vehicle and define a simulated behavior to operate unmanned vehicles via the communication links. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model within OneSAF and summarize system effectiveness analysis results.
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease, which destroys the connective tissue and the alveolar bone. Recently, it has been suggested that the effect of natural substances could be induced into an anti-inflammatory environment. However, the effect of Safflower seed extract (SAF-M) associated with periodontitis has not been investigated yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of SAF-M. Cytotoxicity was assessed through MTS analysis using hGF and hPDL cells. Periodontitis was induced by injecting LPS into gingival tissue on the maxillary molars of rats ($45{\mu}g$ LPS/one time, 3 times a week for 3 weeks). SAF-M was administered daily at 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. Alveolar bone resorption was evaluated through the micro-CT. hGF and hPDL cells showed differential cytotoxicity in response to SAF-M at 5 mg/ml and 1 mg/ml concentrations. Micro-CT showed reduction of the alveolar bone resorption in the SAF-M treatment group. These results suggested that SAF-M is a potential therapeutic agent for periodontitis.

To use the OneSAF model for the analysis of Defence M&S, the most critical factor is the acquisition of input data. The model user is hard to determine the input data such as the probability of hit(Ph) and the probability of kill(Pk). These data can be obtained directly by live fire during the development test and the operational test. Therefore, this needs more time and resources to get the Ph and Pk. In this paper, we reviewed possible ways to obtain the Ph and Pk. We introduced several data producing methodologies. In particular, the error budget method was presented to convert the Ph(%) data of AWAM model to the error(mil) data of OneSAF model. Also, the conversion method which can get the adjusted results from the JMEM is introduced. The probability of a hit was calculated based on the error budget method in order to prove the usefulness of the given method. More accurate data were obtained when the error budget method and the projected area from the published photo were used simultaneously. The importance of the Ph calculation was demonstrated by sensitivity analysis of the Ph on combat effectiveness. This paper emphasizes the importance of determining the Ph data and improving the reliability of the M&S system though steady collection and analysis of the Ph data.
Objectives: To compare the formation of dentinal defects using stainless-steel hand K-files (HFs), rotary files, reciprocating files, and Self-Adjusting File (SAF), when used for oval root canals. Materials and Methods: One hundred and forty extracted human mandibular premolar with single root and oval canal were selected for this study. Oval canals were confirmed by exposing to mesio-distal and bucco-lingual radiographs. Teeth with open apices or anatomic irregularities were excluded. All selected teeth were de-coronated perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth, leaving roots segments approximately of 16 mm in length. Twenty teeth were left unprepared (control), and the remaining 120 teeth were divided into 6 groups (n = 20) and instrumented using HF (size 40/0.02), Revo-S (RS; size 40/0.06), ProTaper NEXT (PTN; size 40/0.06), WaveOne (WO; size 40/0.09), RECIPROC (RC; size 40/0.06), and the SAF (2 mm). Roots were then sectioned 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex, and observed under stereomicroscope, for presence of dentinal defects. "No defect" was defined as root dentin that presented with no visible microcracks or fractures. "Defect" was defined by microcracks or fractures in the root dentin. Results: The control, HF, and SAF did not exhibit any dentinal defects. In roots instrumented by RS, PTN, WO, and RC files exhibited microcracks (incomplete or complete) in 40%, 30%, 55%, and 50%, respectively. Conclusions: The motor-driven root canal instrumentation with rotary and reciprocating files may create microcracks in radicular dentine, whereas the stainless-steel hand file instrumentation, and the SAF produce minimal or less cracks.

In recent computer systems with high-performance, users execute programs needing large memory and programs intensively accessing files simultaneously. Such a large memory requirement makes virtual memory systems access swap spaces in disk, and intensive file accesses require file systems to access file system partitions in disk. Executing the two kinds of programs at once incurs large disk seeks between swap spaces and file system partitions frequently. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a new scheme called SAF to create several swap spaces in a file system partition, where pages to be paged out are stored. When a page is paged out, the scheme stores the page to one of the swap spaces close to a disk location where the most recently accessed file is located. The chosen swap space in the file system partition is closer to the disk location than the traditional swap space, so that our scheme can reduce the large disk seek time spent to move to the traditional swap space in paging out a page. The experiment of our scheme implemented in FreeBSD 6.2 shows that SAF reduces the execution time of several benchmarks over FreeBSD ranging from 14% to 42%.
A slimy non-spore-forming bacterium strain SAF-C isolated from bean stem and root was motile with flagella and identified to one of Agrobacterium radiobacter. Studies were made on the conditions necessary for maximal production of this acidic succinoglucan polysaccharide by this strain in shaken culture. Much production was observed with yeast extract,$(NH_4)_2\;HPO_4$, distillers' dried solubles(D.D.S.), as nitrogen source in the medium composed of 4% glucose, 0.5% nitrogen source, 0.3% $CaCO_3$. The yield was greatest with yeast extract and decreased in order with the above nitrogen source from 22.9% to 9.6 percent. A polysaccharide was produced in a yield of about 25% in a medium composed of 3% glucose, 0.4% D.D.S., 0.5% $K_2\;HPO_4$, 0.01% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$.
Background: Compared with reported data of radon concentration, data of radon progeny concentration is limited in general, especially in outdoor environment. Materials and Methods: To know both the level and the variation of radon progeny concentration in outdoor environment in Beijing area, one-year continuous measurement with a cycle of 60 minutes was carried out by a step-advanced filter (SAF) monitor for radon progeny measurement. The observation site was located in a park in Eastern Beijing area, and the observation period was from October 17, 2018 to September 29, 2019. Results and Discussion: The equivalent equilibrium concentration (EEC) of radon progeny varies from 0.7 to 19.1 Bq·m-3, with an annual average of 4.9 ± 2.7 Bq·m-3. A clear diurnal variation of EEC, higher in the early morning and lower in the late afternoon, is observed due to the high sensitivity of the SAF monitor. Conclusion: Vertical convection of atmospheric boundary layer is thought to be the main reason of this phenomenon. For annual variation, the lowest monthly average EEC appeared in April, while the highest appeared in November, which might attribute to the atmospheric stability in different seasons.
To elucidate the trophic role of heterotrophic nano- and microplankton (HNMP), we investigated their biomass, community structure, and herbivory in three different water masses, namely, south of Polar Front (SPF), Polar Front Zone (PFZ), the Sub-Antarcitc Front (SAF) in the Drake Passage in the Southern Ocean, during the austral summer in 2002. We observed a spatial difference in the relative importance of the dominant HNMP community in these water masses. Ciliates accounted for 34.7% of the total biomass on an average in the SPF where the concentration of chlorophyll-a was low with the dominance of pico- and nanophytoplankton. Moreover, the importance of ciliates declined from the SPF to the SAF. In contrast, heterotrophic dinoflagellates (HDFs) were the most dominant grazers in the PFZ where the concentration of chlorophyll-a was high with the dominance of net phytoplankton. HNMP biomass ranged from 321.9 to 751.4 $mgCm^{-2}$ and was highest in the PFZ and lowest in the SPF. This result implies that the spatial dynamic of HNMP biomass and community was significantly influenced by the composition and concentration of phytoplankton as a food source. On an average, 75.6%, 94.5%, and 78.9% of the phytoplankton production were consumed by HNMP in the SPF, PFZ, and SAF, respectively. The proportion of phytoplankton grazed by HNMP was largely determined by the composition and biomass of HNMP, as well as the composition of phytoplankton. However, the herbivory of HNMP was one of the most important loss processes affecting the biomass and composition of phytoplankton particularly in the PFZ. Our results suggest that the bulk of the photosynthetically fixed carbon was likely reprocessed by HNMP rather than contributing to the vertical flux in Drake Passage during the austral summer in 2002.
