  • Subcellular location of five isozymes in Populus species was studied by isozyme analysis with plant and mitochondria. Isozymes analyzed were ADH, 6-PGD, MDH, PGI, and Diaptrorase. ADH seems to be cytosolic isozyme encoded with nuclear genes at one locus, while 6-PGD seems to be mitochondrial one. MDH showed three hands in cytosol and four other bands in mitochondria. Three cytosolic hands were showed for PGI. Diaphorase showed one mitochodrial band and two cytosofic bands which seemed to the encoded by nuclear genes at one locus.

  • A new euthyplociid burrowing mayfly (Polymitarcyidae, Ephemeroidea, Ephemeroptera), Polyplocia orientalis n. sp., from Vietnam is described with larval habitus and line drawings of mouthparts. The larva of the species is characterized by the mandibular tusks that bear numerous hairlike and stout setae on their dorsal and lateral surfaces and by the apical process of foretibiae that is nearly one-fourth the length of foretarsi. Its habitat and biological data and taxonomic remarks are provided. The burrowing mayfly subfamily Euthyplociinae is reviewed from a historical perspective.

  • The genus Tinocallis Matsumura, 1919 is one of the large genera of the subfamily Calaphidinae with 19 species worldwide. From recent expeditions in Laos, we recognized the heavy infestation of Tinocallis himalayensis Ghosh, Ghosh & Raychaudhuri, 1971, which is new record in Laos, on Queen's crape-myrtle, Lagerstroemia speciosa (Lythraceae). In this paper, the diagnosis and illustrations for the alate viviparous female are provided with the images of live aphids and damage on host plant.

  • One hundred specimens of higher fungi were collected at Mt. Mudeung area from April to October, 1980. These higher fungi were identified and classified into 2 classes, 2 subclasses, 7 orders, 14 families, 21 genera and 33 species. Among them, Baeospora proved to be new genus in Korea. And Baeospora myosura (Fr.) Sing., Marasmius purpureostriatus Hongo, Psathyrella gracilis (Fr.) Quel., lnocybe sphaeospora Kobayasi and Trametes coccinea Fr. were found to be new in Korea.

  • As a result of continuous taxonomic investigations of Korean crabs, Pugettia intermedia Sakai, 1938 is newly reported from Korean waters. Pugettia intermedia had previously been reported in Korean fauna, but the previous reports of P. intermedia were resulted in misidentification of P. quadridens (De Haan, 1839). Pugettia intermedia differs from P. quadridens in having two subequal medial lobes of the first pleopod in male. In P. quadridens, one of the two medial lobes is about half-length of the other. Pugettia intermedia occurs on the southern coast of the Korean peninsula. The descriptions and illustrations of this species are provided herein.

  • In distributed autonomous robotic systems (DARS), each robot must behave by itself according to its states ad environments, and if necessary, must cooperate with other robots in order to carry out their given tasks. Its most significant merit is that they determine their behavior independently, and cooperate with other robots in order to perform the given tasks. Especially, in DARS, it is essential for each robot to have evolution ability in order to increase the performance of system. In this paper, a schema co-evolutionary algorithm is proposed for the evolution of collective autonomous mobile robots. Each robot exchanges the information, chromosome used in this algorithm, through communication with other robots. Each robot diffuses its chromosome to two or more robots, receives other robot's chromosome and creates new species. Therefore if one robot receives another robot's chromosome, the robot creates new chromosome. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by applying it to cooperative search problem.

  • A new genus Goodingius is proposed to incorporate Hemicyclops adhaerens(Williams), H. arenicolae Gooding, H. elongatus Wilson and H. subadhaerens Gooding, all of which bear the six-segmented female urosome, three mandibular elements (or three elements plus one rudimentary setule), five setae on the first antennular segment, and no inner coxal seta of leg 4. The genus Giardella Canu, a sister taxon of Goodingius, is redefined as possessing eight elements on the third exopodal segment of leg 3, only a single inner seta on the second endopodal segment of leg 4, four spines on the third endopodal segment of leg 4. To the genus Giardella, Hemicyclops caissarum Kihara and Rocha and H. carinifer Humes are assigned, in addition to Giardella ricoensis n. sp., Giardella callianassae Canu, and G. thompsoni A. Scott. Keys to the species of both genera are provided.

  • We synthesized new ${\alpha}$-amidoketenes using dehydrochlorination from anilines, triethylamine and malonyl dichloride under $0^{\circ}C$. The utility of ketenes in both laboratory and industrial practice was quickly recognized, and these species have been extensively utilized, including as pharmaceutical intermediates and anti-cancer agents. All synthetic process from anilines to ${\alpha}$-amidoketenes could be carried out by one-pot reaction. Synthetic ketenes 2a~f were identified using NMR and IR spectrum. Formation of ketenes was undertaken with dropping of malonyl dichloride at $0^{\circ}C$ in methylene chloride for 0.5~4 h. Using malonyl dichloride was better than using diethyl malonate as a synthetic reagents for the ketenes.

  • The taxonomic revision of the genus Sillago was made on the basis of the speciemens collected in the Korean coasts during from June, 1990 to April, 1995. The famfly Sillaginidae of Korea are composed of 3 species in only one genus Sillago S. japonica, S. sillama, and S. parvisquamis. Among them S.parvisquamis is newly recorded from Yosu of Korea by present study.
