  • Individuals often report significant relief from pain and stress even after a single session of massage therapy; however, no previous studies have provided objective evidence supporting the effectiveness of a solitary massage therapy session. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of one-time treatment with a spinal thermal massage device reported to exert the same therapeutic effects as massage therapy in terms of pain reduction and stress relief. A man with chronic low back pain (LBP) underwent two rounds of experiments involving spinal massage treatment and bed rest, respectively. Pain was assessed using a visual analog scale, and heart rate variability (HRV) was measured in real-time to examine autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity. Blood samples were obtained at five points during each round of the experiment to examine changes in cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. Spinal massage significantly reduced pain and enhanced parasympathetic activity when compared with the bed rest condition. In addition, both epinephrine and norepinephrine levels were lower following spinal massage than following bed rest. These results are consistent with the reported effects of conventional massage therapy and support the effectiveness of one-time treatment using a spinal thermal massage device.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the result of one-way ANOVA with that of cross-correlation time series analysis in order to evaluate physiologic responses of premature infants to human voices. Methods: Four premature infants born prior to 32 weeks gestational age were included in the study. The Gould 4000TA Recording System recorded the preterm infant's heart and respiratory rate while they were listening to a pre-recorded voice recording. Each infant listened to both male and female voices (1 min each) at each testing session. Results: The results of both one-wayANOVA and cross-correlation time series analysis using heart and respiratory rate data were not consistent in some of premature infants. A cross-correlation time series analysis revealed that the responses of premature infant to vocal stimulation occurred at a varying number of seconds after the stimulus was presented and lasted for over 20-30 sec. Conclusion: The results indicate that a time series analysis can provide more detailed information on the rapidly changing physiologic status of premature infant to the auditory stimulus. In addition, the results provide an insight into an auditory responsitivity of premature infants to a naturally occurring sound, the human voice, in the neonatal intensive care unit.

  • This study was done to explore the effects of dance therapy on pulmonary and cognitive functions in the elderly. The design of this study was a non-equivalent pre-post test experiment. The subjects consisted of elderly persons living in a facility located in Kyoungi-Do. Fifty eight subjects had normal cognition, sensory function and resting blood pressure. They underwent tests of pulmonary and cognitive function as baseline data before dance therapy, and at 6th week and at the end of 12nd week after following dance therapy. Twenty seven elderly persons were assigned to the experimental group and participated with the dance therapy. This therapy was based on the Marian Chace's dance therapy and Korean traditional dance with music. The dance therapy consisted of 50 minutes session, 3 times a week for 12 weeks. One session consisted of warming-up, expression, catharsis, sharing and closing stage. the intensity of the dance therapy was at the 40% of age-adjusted maximum heart rates. Data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, unpaired t-test, repeated measures ANOVA, and Bonferroni multiple regression using SAS program. The results were as follows : 1. Pulmonary function(forced expiratory volume at one second and forced vital capacity) of the experimental subjects significantly increased over time more than that of the control subjects. 2. The experimental group had significantly higher score for pulmonary function than the control group at the 12nd week after dance therapy. 3. Cognitive function of the experimental subjects significantly increased over time more than that of the control subjects. 4. The experimental group had significantly higher score for cognitive function than the control group at the 6th week and 12nd week after dance therapy. The findings showed the dance therapy could be effective in improving the pulmonary and cognitive function of the elderly.

  • Generalized Processor Sharing(GPS) model provides instantaneous fair services to currently backlogged sessions. Since this fair service distributes server capacity to backlogged sessions in proportion to their weights, the fairness is only valid between the sessions serviced at the same time. From the long time view, however, this fair service provides different server capacity with one session or another, even if these sessions have the same weights. This paper proposes a cumulative fair service(CFS) model to provide fair server capacity to all sessions in the long time view. This model provides fair service in session Viewpoint because it distributes server capacity in proportion to the weights of sessions. The model and an algorithm referencing that model are analyzed for their properties and performances. Performance evaluations verify that the proposed algorithm provides proportional service capacity to sessions in the long time view.

  • Introduction : The aim of the study is to investigate the suppressive action of electroacupuncture on cold alloynia development in the rat model of neuopathic pain. Methods : To produce neuropathic pain, the right superior caudal trunk was resected $1{\sim}2\;mm$ between S1 and S2 spinal nerves. The rats were divided into control and four electroacupuncture groups: Two electroacupuncture groups were given 2 Hz or 100 Hz electroacupuncture for 20 minutes everyday after the sacral nerve injury. Other two electroacupuncture groups were given 2 Hz or 100 Hz electroacupuncture for 20 minutes just one session at one hour after the sacral nerve injury. The right point of Joksamni (ST36) was applied for electroacupuncture. The control group was induced neuropathic pain without electroacupuncture. The cold allodynia was assessed by immersing the tail in $4^{\circ}C$ water. The latency to an abrupt tail movement after rat tail immersion was measured with a cut-off time of 15 sec at 4th, 7th and 14th day after the sacral nerve injury. Results : The results were as follows; 1. At 4th experimental day, there were no significant differences between 2 Hz or 100 Hz electroacupuncture groups and the control group. 2. At 7th experimental day, everyday 2 Hz or 100 Hz electroacupuncture groups showed significant differences compared with the control group. But There were no significant differences between 2 Hz and 100 Hz electroacupuncture groups. 3. At 14th experimental day, everyday 2 Hz electroacupuncture group showed significant differences compared with the control group. But everyday 100 Hz electroacupuncture group showed no significant difference compared with the control group and everyday 2 Hz electroacupuncture group. 4. There were no significant differences between the control and 2 Hz or 100 Hz electroacupuncture groups which were done just one session at one hour after the surgery. 5. Everyday 2 Hz electroacupuncture group showed significant differences in the one session of the 100 Hz electroacupuncture group. Conclusion : Everyday 2 Hz electroacupuncture exerts a suppressive action on cold allodynia development in the rat model of neuropathic pain.

  • After releasing the smart phone equipping the strong computational capability compared to traditional mobil phone, a field of services, which is available on the personal computers, is expanded to smart phone. The development of technology reduces the limited service utilization on time and space but it has a venerability exposing an information to malicious user. Especially we need to more attention when using the financial services which communicate the user's private information. To solve the security problem, OTP(One Time Pad), which uses a private key for a session, is recommended. OTP techniques in smart phone having focused on traditional environments have been proposed and implemented. However, security over mobile environments is more vulnerable to attack and has restriction on resources than traditional system. For this reason, definition of proper conceptual OTP on smart phone is required. In the paper, we present the L-OTP(Location-OTP) protocol, using T-OTP(Time One Time Pad) technique with location information. Proposal generates the OTP using unique location information which is obtained in smart phone.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate whether alcohol alters learning and memory processes pertaining to emotional and spatial factors using the active avoidance and T-maze task in zebrafish. In the active avoidance task, zebrafish were trained to escape from one compartment to another to avoid electric shocks (unconditioned stimulus) following a conditioned light signal. Acquisition of active avoidance task appeared to be normal in zebrafish that were treated with 1% alcohol for 30 min for 17 days until the end of the behavioral test, and retention ability of learned behavior, tested 2 days later, was the same as control group. In the T-maze task, the time to find a reservoir was compared. While the latency was similar during the 1 st training session between control and alcohol-treated zebrafish, it was significantly longer in alcohol-treated zebrafish during retention test 24 h later. Furthermore, when alcohol was treated 30 min after 2nd session without prior treatment, zebrafish demonstrated similar retention ability compared to control. These results suggest that chronic alcohol treatment alters spatial learning of zebrafish, but not emotional learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of a group self exercise program in improving the quality of life regarding depression and the activities of daily living (ADL) of chronic stroke survivors, as well as the motor functions such as the 3 meter round walk, upper extremity function, and static balance. The subjects were 12 post-stroke ambulatory community center participants. All subjects participated in one 90 minute session per week for 7 weeks and received a home exercise program in every session. They had to record and submit an exercise check list. Quality of life was measured with the Beck depression inventory and the 8-Item Short-Form (SF-8). Motor functions were measured with the manual function test (MF'T), the kinesthetic ability trainer (KAT 3000), and the modified Barthel index. The level of depression decreased somewhat, but there were no significant differences after intervention. However, quality of life related health (SF-8) improved significant1y. There were significant improvements in the time for the 3 meter round walk, the functions of the affected upper extremities, and static balance and ADL (p<.05). The findings of this study suggest that a group self exercise program can improve quality of life related health and motor functions in stroke survivors.

  • Mobile IPv6 is one of method can keep Mobile node's session. To solve legacy Mobile IPv4's triangular routing problem, in Mobile IPv6, Mobile Node could directly communicate with Correspond node by Binding Update. But, attacker could interfere Return Routability Procedure that is Correspond node check Home address and Care of address reachable. At this result, Attacker is able to hijack Session to correspond node from Mobile node. In This paper, We propose new Binding Update scheme for solving that problem. Our approach is that MN gives association both home token and care of token using onewayness of keyed hash fuction. From security and performance analysis, we can see that proposed binding Update Scheme can achieve stronger security than legacy scheme and at the same time requires minimal computational overhead.
