The Effects of Intellectual Capital and Financial Leverage on Evaluating Market Performance

  • This study aimed to identify the key factors that affect the financial market performance (Price-Earnings Model) through a sample of 35 public shareholding industrial companies on the Amman Stock Exchange for the period 2010-2019, using statistical models and methods, such as the Simple Linear Regression Model, Correlation Coefficient, and dispersion board. The study results showed the nonexistence of a statistically significant effect between the intellectual capital and market value added (MVA) and market performance. Results also showed a statistically significant positive effect between financial leverage (FL) and the market performance, where the interpreted variation reached 64%. It showed from the analysis results that the relationship between (MVA) and market performance (P/E) agrees with the study hypotheses, while the result related to (FL) disagrees with the study hypotheses. The study recommends that public shareholding industrial companies should focus more on intellectual capital and show its value in the annual financial statements and reports, and those companies that have high profitability and the chance to hold gains and profits should rely less on debt and more on retained earnings, due to the high risk of debt and in line with the present unstable circumstances in Jordan, especially in light of the global Covid-19 crisis.

  • Internet-based retail business spreads rapidly in Korea. Companies are trying to develop and use various strategic capabilities. The strategies employed by those companies include activities related to the design of shopping sites, market positionsing, facilitation of purchasing process, payment mechanism, and the provision of various consumer services. However, the success of these strategies depends on various environmental factors and internal capability of the companies. Especially, balancing activities performed on-line with those performed off-line is suggested to be essential. In this study, we examined three successful Internet shopping mall companies and compared them to draw useful guidelines for balancing shopping mall strategies - on - line vs. off - line. These three companies were selected because they are all considered sucessful by now, but brought different backgrounds.

주식시장국면 예측과 투자전략에 대한 연구 (A Study on Stock Market Cycle and Investment Strategies)

  • Purpose - This study investigates the performance of investment strategies incorporating estimated stock market cycle based on a lead-lag relationship between business cycle and stock market cycle, thereby deriving empirical implications on risk management. Design/methodology/approach - The data period ranges from June 1953 to September 2022 and de-trended short rate, term spread, credit spread, stock market volatility are considered as major input variables to estimate business cycle and stock market cycle by applying probit model. Based on the estimated stock market cycle, two types of strategies are constructed and their performance relative to the benchmark is empirically examined. Findings Two types of strategies based on stock market cycle are considered: The first strategy is to long(short) on stocks when stock market stage is expected to be an expansion(a recession), and the second one is to long on stocks(bonds) when expecting an expansion(a recession). The empirical results show that the strategies based on stock market cycle outperforms a simple buy and hold strategy in both in-sample and out-of-sample investigation. Also the out-of-sample evidence suggests that the second strategy which is in line with asset allocation is more profitable than the first one. Research implications or Originality The strategies considered in this study are based on the estimated stock market cycle which only depends on a few easily available financial variables, thereby making easier to establish such a strategy. It implies that investors enhance investment performance by constructing a relatively simple trading strategies if they set their position on stocks or choose which asset class to buy conditioning on stock market cycle.

  • 국내 온라인 게임 시장은 빠르게 성장하고 있지만, 게임사들은 이용자들의 심리를 파악하지 않고, 일괄된 컨텐츠 서비스 공급에만 급급하다. 이는 게임 컨텐츠 서비스에 이용자의 심리를 반영하지 못한다면 기업의 충성도가 낮아진다. 따라서 기존고객의 감소 및 신규고객의 유치가 어렵고, 시장 점유율이 떨어져 기업 매출에 큰 타격을 줄 것이다. 본 연구에서는 온라인 게임 이용자들의 재이용 의도에 미치는 요인들을 찾아내어 게임사들의 게임 컨텐츠 서비스에 관한 마케팅 전략을 제시하고자 한다.

  • The purpose d this study was to examine situations of fashion jewelry brand industry and to find out the problems in Korean jewelry market. Based on literature review, this paper tried to define jewelry first, and to investigate recent the recent situations or status of fashion jewelry markets. The fashion jewelry brand markets were able to be classified into 2 categories such as off-line retailing and on-line retailing including internet shopping and home shopping. As the result, the most problem was the definition of the fashion jewelry. Also our fashion jewelry markets had some serious problems such as complex distribution structure or lack d technical experts. Based on these results, fashion jewelry marketing strategies would be suggested.

  • As the electricity industry undergoes a process of fundamental restructuring, horizontal market power appears as a potential obstacle to a fully competitive wholesale electricity market. Market power is the ability profitably to maintain prices above competitive levels by restricting output below competitive levels. In models for imperfect competition under the consideration of the transmission constraints, the Nash equilibrium has the form of a mixed strategy. In this paper, the models for analyzing imperfect competition are compared using the solution of pure and mixed equilibria. The relation between market power and the capacity of a transmission line is investigated by imperfect competition analysis methods: Cournot, Bertrand, and Supply Curve model.

  • This study notes the growing importance of online community as a means of building customer relationships. The author aims to identify how to communicate in an online community on preannounced new products, and test social influence that influence word-of-mouth of consumers, and confirm moderate effect of market maven between social influence and word-of-mouth activity in on-line community. The main findings are that social influence such as internalization and conformity positively influence word-of-mouth communication on online community. And moderate effect of market maven confirm between social influence(internalization and confirmity) and word-of-mouth activity.

  • Software product line is a software product or a set of software system, which has common functions. We can develop a specific software product, which satisfies requirements of a particular market segment and a mission in a specific domain by reusing the core asset such as the developed software architecture through the software product line. Software development methodology based on the software product line can develop a software more easily and fast by reusing the developed software core asset. Developed countries of software technology select software product line as a core field of software production technology, and support technology development. In case of USA, CMU/SEI(Carnegie Mellon University/Software Engineering Institute) developed product-line framework 4.0 together with the industry and the Department of Defense. Europe is supporting the development of product line technology through ITEA(IT for European Advancement) program. However, industries in our country understand the necessity of software production technology based on product line concept for the purpose of increasing productivity, it is not sufficient to invest for this technology development. In this paper, we aim to construct the common architecture of software product line for production of the software product line.

온라인 게임 캐릭터 복식 색채와 패션 트렌드 색채의 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of On-Line Game Characters' Costumes and Fashion Trend Color)

  • The purpose of this study is to come up with ways that cooperate between on-line game design and fashion design by analyzing trend color and on-line game character's costume color in on-line game. As for the research methodology, First, on-line games were selected with reference to www.ranky.com. Second, 2009 SS trend color palettes suggested by Copenhagen International Fashion Fair was used as a criterion of fashion trend. Third, on-line game character's costume colors were analyzed in relation to the degree of reflection of trend and the game character's type. The results are as follows. Each on-line game character costume's colors were made in accordance with typical character types. But we can find a one-to-one correspondence between fashion trend colors and game character costume's colors. That's because both trends and character types are the results of the continuing interactions between human-beings and societies. In comparison with fashion trend colors, game character costume colors are partly raw and inharmonious. Therefore, it is necessary to apply fashion trend color in game character costume design for enhancing competitiveness in the world market.

가상시장에서 Porter의 경쟁우위전략: 온라인 기업과 온-오프라인기업간 비교를 중심으로 (An examination of Porter`s competitive strategy on the virtual market: comparison between on-line and on-offline firms)

  • Internet-based on-line firms have focused on the development of new business models with an assumption that this new model would create their competitiveness. At the same time, off-line firms have opened new marketing channels on the internet in order to defend their position against on-line firms. Based on Porter's well-known generic strategy, this study compares between on-line firms and on-offline firms i) whether these two types of firms take different strategies among cost reduction, marketing differentiation, innovation differentiation, and focus and ii) how the performance of these two types of firms is affected by different strategy types. The result shows that on-offline firms prefer the strategy of marketing differentiation and innovative differentiation while the strategy of cost reduction and focus are taken without significant difference between online firms and on-offline firms. Also it is found that even though the strategy of marketing differentiation and innovation differentiation are more preferred by on-offline firms than on-line firms, these two strategy types have a significant influence on the on-line firms' performance while the focus strategy has a significant influence on the on-offline firms' performance. Other managerial implications are discussed.
