In a parallel processing system, Multi-stage Interconnection Networks (MINs) play a vital role in making the network reliable and cost effective. The MIN is an important piece of architecture for a multiprocessor system, and it has a good impact in the field of communication. Optical Multi-stage Interconnection Networks (OMINs) are the advanced version of MINs. The main problem with OMINs is crosstalk. This paper, presents the (1) Destination Based Modified Omega Network (DBMON) and the (2) Destination Based Scheduling Algorithm (DBSA). DBSA does the scheduling for a source and their corresponding destination address for messages transmission and these scheduled addresses are passed through DBMON. Furthermore, the performance of DBMON is compared with the Crosstalk-Free Modified Omega Network (CFMON). CFMON also minimizes the crosstalk in a minimum number of passes. Results show that DBMON is better than CFMON in terms of the average number of passes and execution time. DBSA can transmit all the messages in only two passes from any source to any destination, through DBMON and without crosstalk. This network is the modified form of the original omega network. Crosstalk minimization is the main objective of the proposed algorithm and proposed network.
In multiprocessor systems, there are Omega network and M network among various MIN's which interconnect the processor and memory modules. Both one-path Omega network and two-path M network are composed of Log2N stages. In this paper, Augmented M network (AMN) with 2**k+1 paths and Augmented Omega network (AON) with 2**k paths are proposed. The proposed networks can be acomplished by adding K stage(s) to M network and Omega network. Using destination tag, routing algorithm for AMN and AON becomes simple and multiple faults are tolerant. By evaluating RST(request service time) performance of AMN and AON with (Log2N)+K stages, we demonstrated the fact that MMIN (AMN) with 2**k+1 paths performs better than MMIN(AON) with 2**k+1. paths.
This paper introduces liquid crystal (LC) alignment and its electro-optical properties in the LC cells with silver nanowire (AgNW) networks. The AgNW network was used as an electrode of LC cell as a substitute for an indium-tin-oxide (ITO) film. LC alignment characteristics in the LC cell using AgNW networks, which have two different sheet resistances of $60{\Omega}/m^2$ and $80{\Omega}/m^2$, were observed. The LC alignment characteristics including pretilt angle, LC alignment state, and thermal stability are similar irrespective of sheet resistance of AgNW network. However, twisted-nematic (TN)-LC cell normally operated when using AgNW network with sheet resistance of $80{\Omega}/m^2$. Electrooptical properties of TN-LC cell exhibited competitive performance compared to those of TN-LC cell based on conventional ITO electrode, which allow new approaches to replace conventional ITO electrode in display technology.
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential fatty acids because humans cannot synthesize them de novo and must obtain them in their diet. Fish and fish oil are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Significant evidence of the beneficial role of dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids in blood flow has been reported and putative mechanisms for improvement of blood flow include anti-thrombotic effects, lowered blood pressure, improved endothelial function, and anti-atherogenic effects. Edible oils containing omega-3 fatty acids were registered as functional ingredients in the Korea Health Functional Food Code. Although omega-3 fatty acids have been evaluated by the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) based on scientific evidence, periodic re-evaluation may be needed because emerging data related to omega-3 fatty acids have accumulated. Therefore, in this study, we re-evaluated scientific evidence for the effect of omega-3 fatty acids as a functional ingredient in health functional food on improvement of blood flow. A comprehensive literature search was conducted for collection of relevant human studies using the Medline and Cochrane, KISS, and IBIDS databases for the years 1955-2012. Search keywords were used by combination of terms related to omega-3 fatty acids and blood flow. The search was limited to human studies published in Korean, English, and Japanese. Using the KFDA's evidence based evaluation system for scientific evaluation of health claims, 112 human studies were identified and reviewed in order to evaluate the strength of the evidence supporting a relation between omega-3 fatty acids and blood flow. Among 112 studies, significant effects on improvement of blood flow were reported in 84 studies and the daily intake amount was ranged from 0.1 to 15 g. According to this methodology of systematic review, we concluded that there was possible evidence to support a relation between omega-3 fatty acid intake and blood flow. However, because inconsistent results have recently been reported, future studies should be monitored.
In this paper, impedance characteristics of overhead medium-voltage (MV) power lines is reported for power line communication (PLC) over an MV power line network. For analysis, a two-port equivalent network model of MV power lines is derived. By applying the transmission line theory, reflection behavior and impedance of power lines are investigated. For verification, impedance of power lines is measured at a test field for an MV PLC. The results show that impedance of MV power lines is between $200{\Omega}$ and $300{\Omega}$ and converges to a half of their characteristic impedance.
Synergistic interactions between xanthan (X) and carob (C) were investigated by studying the linear viscoelastic behavior of X, C, and X/C mixtures at sol and gel states. At the solution state, storage modulus (G') dominates the linear viscoelastic properties of X/C mixtures. The gelation temperature (52 to $57^{\circ}C$) was weakly dependent on the xanthan fraction (${\phi}x$) in the mixture. The ${\phi}x$ also had a strong effect on G' until ${\phi}x=0.5$. The elastic active network concentration (EANC) of X/C gels was estimated from the pseudo-equilibrium modulus. The EANC for systems with ${\phi}x=0.25$, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 at 1% total concentration was 2.3, 4.4, 4.1, and 0.32 (${\times}10^{-3}\;mol/m^3$), respectively. The maximum synergistic effect was observed at about ${\phi}x=0.5$. The G' at the transition state of X/C mixed gel was proportional to ${\omega}^{3/2}$ at ${\omega}$>${\omega}_{tr}$ (the onset transition frequency) compared to the theoretical limit of ${\omega}^{1/2}$.
Random Early Detection (RED) [1] is an active queue management scheme which has been deployed extensively to reduce packet loss during congestion. Although RED can improve loss rates, its performance depends severely on the tuning of its operating parameters. The idea of adaptively varying RED parameters to suit the network conditions has been investigated in [2], where the maximum packet dropping probability $max_p$ has been varied. This paper focuses on adaptively varying the queue weight $\omega_q$ in conjunction with $max_p$ to improve the performance. We propose two algorithms viz., $\omega_q$-thresh and $\omega_q$-ewma to adaptively vary $\omega_q$. The performance is measured in terms of the packet loss percentage, link utilization and stability of the instantaneous queue length. We demonstrate that varying $\omega_q$ and $max_p$ together results in an overall improvement in loss percentage and queue stability, while maintaining the same link utilization. We also show that $max_p$ has a greater influence on loss percentage and queue stability as compared to $\omega_q$, and that varying $\omega_q$ has a positive influence on link utilization.
In this paper we present an algorithm based on network flow techniques which provides a solution for a combinatorial problem. Then, in order to provide all the solutions of this problem, we make use of an algorithm that given the bipartite graph $G=(V_1 {\cup}{V_2},\;E,\;{\omega})$ outputs the enumeration of all bipartite matchings of given cardinality v and cost c.
Transparent conducting electrodes are essential components in various optoelectrical devices. Although indium tin oxide thin films have been widely used for transparent conducting electrodes, silver nanowire network is a promising alternative to indium tin oxide thin films owing to its lower processing cost and greater suitability for flexible device application. In order to widen the application of silver nanowire network, the electrical conductance has to be improved while maintaining high optical transparency. In this study, we report the enhancement of the electrical conductance of silver nanowire network transparent electrodes by copper electrodeposition on the silver nanowire networks. The electrodeposited copper lowered the sheet resistance of the silver nanowire networks from $21.9{\Omega}{\square}$ to $12.6{\Omega}{\square}$. We perform detailed X-ray diffraction analysis revealing the effect of the amount of electrodeposited copper-shell on the sheet resistance of the core-shell(silver/copper) nanowire network transparent electrodes. From the relationship between the cross-sectional area of the copper-shell and the sheet resistance of the transparent electrodes, we deduce the electrical resistivity of electrodeposited copper to be approximately 4.5 times that of copper bulk.
