  • We investigated the effect on light extraction in OLED by introducing aluminum micro bump light scattering reflector. By attaching the micro bump reflector to a both side emission OLED, we found that the light extraction was 1.7 times larger than a simple flat reflector. We fabricated a 20.8” inch WXGA full color AM-OLED by integrating the micro bump scattering reflector.

  • Color conversion technology using unique color conversion film for OLED back light was developed to achieve renovative performance for high- end display. It can reduce the production cost more than 20% due to cheaper cost for blue OLED and conversion film and also has a free chromaticity control capability for 10% raising color gamut with respect to LCD color filter. The OLED BLU by color conversion technology also shows excellent performances such as chromaticity stability. White efficiency using PLF + Blue OLED is 17cd/A@4.4V, CIExy(0.29, 0.31).

  • The power efficiency of a full-color OLED display decreases with long-term operation because of the material characteristics. The lifetime of the OLED display also decreases as the power efficiency declines. Therefore, this work provides a novel color difference algorithm to improve the power consumption and extend the OLED lifetime.

  • We have developed a self-aligned single isolation structure (SIS) and an asymmetric single isolation structure with an image reversal photoresist to increase the aperture ratio in a passive matrix organic light emitting display (PMOLED). Compared to the conventional structure, the fabrication process is reduced by about 17% and the aperture ratio is enlarged over 4%.

  • In order to design an OLED(Organic Luminescent Emitting Device) evaporation system, geometric simulation of film thickness distribution profile is required. For the OLED evaporation process, thin film thickness uniformity is of great practical importance. In this paper, a geometric modeling algorithm is introduced for process simulation of the OLED evaporating process. The physical fact of the evaporating process is modeled mathematically. Based on the developed method, the thickness of the thin-film layer can be successfully controlled.

  • Flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices consist of multi-stacked thin films or layers comprising organic and inorganic materials. Due to thermal coefficient mismatch of the multi-layer films, warpage of the flexible OLED is generated during high temperature process of each layer. This warpage will create the critical issues for next production process, consequently lowering the production yield and reliability of the flexible OLED. In this study, we investigate the warpage behavior of the flexible OLED for each bonding process step of the multi-layer films using the experimental and numerical analysis. It is found that the polarizer film and barrier film show significant impact on warpage of flexible OLED, while the impact of the OCA film on warpage is negligible. The material that has the most dominant impact on the warpage is a plastic cover. In order to minimize the warpage of the flexible OLED, we estimate the optimal material properties of the plastic cover using design of experiment. It is found that the warpage of the flexible OLED is reduced to less than 1 mm using a cover plastic of optimized properties which are the elastic modulus of 4.2 GPa and thermal expansion coefficient of $20ppm/^{\circ}C$.
