This study was conducted to provide on a basic information for maintenance of roadside trees and identify the links between environmental pollution and tree damages (Ginkgo biloba, Platanus occidentalis) in Daejeon City by analyzing photosynthetic characteristics, water use efficiency, chlorophyll fluorescence and chlorophyll contents by the regions and plants. The investigations were conducted at Chungnam national university(CNU) considered as the least air-polluted area compared to other study sites, Daedeok science town(DS) which a new road with little traffic recently was built around, Daehwa industry complex(DIC) and Daejeon station(DS) which an old road with heavy is located around. The photosynthetic capacity of the two species were highest in CNU and lowest in the DS. However the water use efficiency was highest on the contrary to the photosynthetic capacity in DS. Chlorophyll fluorescence and chlorophyll contents were highest in CNU and lowest in DS as the photosynthetic capacity. On all of the test, Ginkgo biloba shows the more favorable physiological responses than Platanus occidentalis.
The JS18 strain was isolated from an old tree forest and produced extracellular enzymes that decolorize synthetic melanin. Phylogenetic analysis, based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence, indicate that JS18 belongs to the Trametes velutina species. JS18 demonstrated laccase activity but no manganese peroxidase or lignin peroxidase activity. Batch culture indicated that the melanin decolorization activity of JS18 strain originated from the laccase. Syringic acid and CuSO4 induced maximum laccase production, yielding 98 U/ml laccase activity after cultivation for 7 days at 25℃. T. velutina secretes an extracellular laccase in GYP medium, and this enzyme was purified using (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, Hi-trap Q Sepharose columns and gel filtration. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 67 kDa using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This enzyme produced 80% of its melanin decolorization activity within the first 24 h of evaluation in the presence of 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (HBT), while only about 4% of the melanin was decolorized in the absence of the mediator. The greatest decolorization was observed at 1.5 mM/l HBT, which decolorized 81% of the melanin within the first 24 h. The optimum pH and temperature for this decolorization were found to be 5.0 and 37℃, respectively. Our results suggest the possibility of applying HBT induced T. velutina JS18 laccase-catalyzed melanin decolorization.
This paper describes the production methods that were originally used for an arrow bundle excavated from a Bronze Age residential area in Auraji in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do Province and the conservation treatment process that it subsequently underwent. An arrow conventionally consists of an arrowhead and a shaft. It is rare to excavate a shaft along with an arrowhead in a complete form since the shaft is made of organic materials. Notably, the arrow bundle from the Auraji site is of great significance as it shows traces of tangless stone arrowheads attached to charred shafts and offers an important case of the split end of a piece of a tree being inserted into an arrowhead. For a further examination of the characteristics of the arrows from Auraji, microscopic investigation was conducted and the type of wood used for the arrow shafts was examined. The sequence and direction of processing and the particle sizes of the grinding tools were revealed through the analysis of traces of grinding on the stone arrowheads. The shaft is presumed to have been made from a green length of three-year-old willow (Salix spp.). A curing agent with a high degree of waterproofing and reversibility was used during the on-site curing process according to demands of the surrounding environment, and a technique that the authors call the "Bridge" method was used for emergency collection of the relics. Once the bundle was transferred to the conservation treatment lab, reinforcing materials were carefully chosen as it was important not to damage the relics during the process of turning them for the repair of their reverse sides. For this purpose, artificial clay was selected since it can safely bear a load and has excellent physical properties. Finally, detached parts were rejoined, the relics and their surrounding materials were cleaned, and the bottom sides were finished with epoxy resin prior to the display of the relics at the museum.
The operation system of a shipping company is still maintaining the mainframe based terminal access environment or the client/server based environment. Nowadays shipping companies that try to migrate it into a web-based environment are increasing. However, in the transition, if the design is processed by the old configuration and knowledge without considering the characteristics of the web-based environment and shipping business, various security vulnerabilities will be revealed at the actual system operation stage, and system maintenance costs to fix them will increase significantly. Therefore, in the transition to a web-based environment, a security design must be carried out from the design stage to ensure system safety and to reduce security-related maintenance costs in the future. This paper examines the characteristics of various threat modeling techniques, selects suitable modeling technique for the operation system of a shipping company, applies data flow diagram and STRIDE threat modeling technique to shipping business, derives possible security threats from each component of the data flow diagram in the attacker's point of view, validates the derived threats by mapping them with attack library items, represents the attack tree having various attack scenarios that attackers can attempt to achieve their final goals, organizes into the checklist that has security check items, associated threats and security requirements, and finally presents 23 security requirements that can respond to threats. Unlike the existing general security requirements, the security requirements presented in this paper reflect the characteristics of shipping business because they are derived by analyzing the actual business of a shipping company and applying threat modeling technique. Therefore, I think that the presented security requirements will be of great help in the security design of shipping companies that are trying to proceed with the transition to a web-based environment in the future.

In this study, the original scenery of Baegun-dong Garden in Gangjin was compared with that of the reconstructed site to suggest directions for restoration in the future. The diachronic prototype scenery of the Baegun-dong Garden was derived by integrating the elements of the original and contemporary prototype sceneries from the old poetry series. The old poetry series is comprised of "Baegun-dong 8Yeong(詠)" by Lee Damro(李聃老), "Baegun-dong 10Su(首)" by Song Ikhwi(宋翼輝), "Baegun-dong 12Gyeong (景)" by Jeong Yakyong(丁若鏞), and "Baegun-dong 14Gyeong" by Lee Siheon (李時憲). Guidance for directions for future restoration was suggested through a comparative analysis between the diachronic prototype scenery of Baegun-dong Garden and the current scenery of the restored site. The research result is as follows. First, the prototype scenery of Baegun-dong Garden was a harmonic view composed of the camellia forest road, 'Baegun-dong' the letter carved on a rock, a cliff 'Changhabyeok(蒼霞壁)' the red letter written by Jeong Yakyong, paulownia trees, waterfalls and a maple forest. Outside the Byeolseo(別墅), there were a red plum blossom forest, a pine forest, and a bamboo forest, as well as the view of Okpanbong(玉版峯) from Jeongseondae(停仙臺). In the yard, there were Chwimiseonbang(翠微禪房), Jug-gak(竹閣), Pyeongsang(榻), a lotus Bangji(方池), Gogsugeo(曲水渠) and Hwagye(花階). Cranes were even raised in the yard. Second, comparing the diachronic prototype scenery of Baegun-dong Garden with its restored site, following a restoration guide is suggested. There should be more water flow in Baegun-dong Valley and Jug-gak should be restored. 'Changhabyeok' the red letter should be carved on the stone wall. Trees should be controlled for a better view of Okpanbong from Jeongseondae. More trees and plants, such as red plum blossom, pine tree, paulownia trees, azaleas(映山紅), chrysanthemum, orchid, daffodil, and lotus should be planted in the yard. A system of integrated guide boards is also required for effective information transmission for visitors.

This study was carried out in order to closely examine quality index by shading level of 2-year-old (1-1 seedling) container seedling of Daphniphyllum macropodum which is known as the species of having shade tolerance that is evergreen broad leaved tree in the warm temperate region. The shading treatment was regulated with the shading level of full sunlight, and 35%, 55%, 75%, 95% of full sunlight. As a result of surveying growth according to the shading level, both height and root collar diameter were surveyed to be the highest with 45.1 cm and 8.22 mm, respectively, under 75% of shading. The next was surveyed to be 43.2 cm & 8.05 mm and 42.5 cm & 7.98 mm, respectively, in order of 35% and 55% in shading. Leaf, shoot, root, and whole dry mass production were the highest under 75% of shading. The next was higher in leaf, stem, and whole dry mass production under 55% of shading. A root was higher under 35% of shading in the next. H/D ratio was the range of 5.29~5.35 under the 35~75% shading that showed the relatively high height and root collar diameter. T/R ratio was the lowest with 1.17 under 35% of shading. It was 0.41 under 95% of shading as for LWR, 0.24 under 75%-95% of shading as for SWR, and 0.46 under full sun and 35% shading as for RWR. QI was the highest with 3.74 under 75% of shading. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that the production of D. macropodum seedling is more effective under 75% shading
This study was carried out to investigate the short-term (3 years) effect of thinning on aboveground carbon storage for 34-year-old (site 1) and 45-year-old (site 2) Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis Siebold et Zuccarini) plantations with different diameter class and site quality located in Gwangneung experimental forest. Thinning was manually carried out in consideration of basal area in 2004 (site 1 : 30% and 60% of basal area removed and site 2 : 60% of basal area removed). In 2004 and 2007, DBH and tree height were measured to analyze the changes in carbon storage after thinning. In the sites of 60% of basal area removed, although the mean DBH of site 1 was higher than that of site 2, mean annual carbon storage increment in site 2 ($6.5Mg\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$) was about 3 times higher than that in site 1 ($2.3Mg\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$). The reason for this result was probably due to higher stem density and site quality in site 2 compared to site 1. In site 2, mean annual carbon storage increment in thinned plot ($6.5Mg\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$) was about 1.3 times higher than that in control ($5.2Mg\;C\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$). The results suggest that the stem density and site quality may be much more related to the aboveground carbon storage compared to diameter class. In addition, it is needed to consider these two factors for determining whether thinning is a feasible management alternative for the increase in aboveground carbon sequestration.

This study contemplated the gardening culture from the pictures, which the scholars of late Joseon Dynasty, the aspects of garden landscapes and garden use behaviors are drawn as follows. 1. The yard by the detached house for men and guest in front of the premises(Sarang Madang) and backyard were the major places for Ahoi(social gatherings of the scholars). The mansions had interests in the management of the outer garden beyond the house wall with building structures like the pavilions on the high walls and side gates. This management and the selection of location anticipating in advance of the management are noteworthy. 2. Only house gardens had plant pots with flowers and the small flower bed(Hwa-O) at Sarang Madang occasionally had plant pots without flowers and oddly shaped stone pots and equipped pine branch eaves and traditional awnings made of plant material like a trellis. 3. The oddly shaped stones were significant landscape elements in the gardens of houses and villas. Some of them were depicted as the Taihu stone and this draws attention to the question of whether the Taihu stone was actually used in the garden of late Joseon Dynasty. 4. The gardens in villas accommodated the borrowed scenery with various materials like wooden fences, bamboo or reed fences, mud walls. They also had the artificial gardens with some odd shaped stones, old pines, bamboos, Japanese apricots, willows, paulownia trees, lotuses and plantains in the secured Madangs. 5. Gyeong Hwa Sa Jog(The scholars of the ruling class adapted to the 18th century's new historical aspect) of late Joseon Dynasty built the villas at the beautiful scenery closed to the their houses. 6. The Gardens around pavilions were located high closed to the mountain streams with nature like beautiful forests, oddly formed rocks, precipitous cliffs and viewing stones. The back side of the pavilion was enclosed by bamboo forests and the front had pines, ginkgoes and willows as shade trees. 7. The beautiful scenery which was preferred as the place for Ahoi was basically with fantastic peaks and precipitous cliffs which forms the distant view harmonized with a waterfall. Broad and flat rocks at the summit of a mountain which commands a bird's-eye view or on a mountain streamside with pine forest, willows and plum trees were chosen as the optimal places for Ahoi. 8. Pine trees were presumed to be more preferable than other species in the garden, especially an single planted old pine tree accented symbolism. 9. Portable tea braziers for boiling tea were adopted in all four types of the gardens. 10. The gardens mixed with auspicious landscape elements were the places of the arts for an unworldliness Ahoi through GeumGiSeoHwa(enjoying strings, go, writing and painting) and boiling tea.

This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting to seed characteristics and seedling growth of Zelkova serrata. The seeds were collected from sixteen populations of Z. serrata and the seed characteristics (i.e., seed length, width, weight and full seed rate) were measured. We also measured the 1-year-old seedling growth of each population at nursery. All seed characteristics showed significant differences in population level. Seed length and seed width were positively correlated with latitude, longitude, altitude and distance from coast line of sampling site. Seed length and seed width also negatively correlated with annual mean temperature, mean temperature of growing season (Mar.~Oct.). The ratio of seed length/seed width showed inverse trend in case of seed length and seed width. Seed weight/1,000 grains had no correlation with geographic factors but showed negative correlation with annual mean dryness index. Seed weight/L showed negative correlation with latitude and longitude and positive correlation with mean temperature of growing season of sampling site. Full seed rate showed negative correlation with latitude, longitude and annual mean dryness index of sampling site. There were significant differences among populations, among family within population and among individuals within family in seedling growth. Height and diameter of root collar of seedling showed negative correlation with longitude and mean humidity of growing season of sampling site. Height growth of seedlings was not correlated with any seed characteristics but, diameter at root collar showed low negative correlation with seed weight/1,000 grains and seed weight/L. We discussed the implications of the results in view of tree improvement of Z. serrata.
This study was carried out to investigate the hydraulic architecture such as relative hydraulic conductivity, Leaf specific conductivity(LSC), Huber value, Specific conductivity of the stem, branch and Junctions of stem-to-branch in Quercus mongolica trees. The hydraulic architecture of various hydraulic conductivities of stem and branch was described. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The range of relative hydraulic conductivity was $2.5526{\times}10^{-12}$ to $1.2260{\times}10^{-10}m^2$ in stems, $1.6279{\times}10^{-11}$ to $6.8378{\times}10^{-11}m^2$ in branches. The relative hydraulic conductivities increased with decreasing diameter of stem and branch. The relative hydraulic conductivity of one-year-old terminal shoots were two times greater than that of the lateral shoots. 2. LSC value was larger at the top than at the base in stem. LSC is much smaller in branches than in stem ; especially smallest at branching part. 3. Hydraulic conductivities of the branching part appeared the different values with the 4 type and 4 type. Relative hydraulic conductivity, LSC, Specific conductivity and mean vessel diameter in type branching part were larger in stem than in branch part, but not found in the branching part of Y type. 4. LSC and Specific conductivity of stem increased with decreasing diameter, but Huber value slowly increased with decreasing diameter ; especially highest at less than 1cm diameter. 5. LSC, Huber value, and mean diameter of vessels were larger at 1-year-old leader shoots than at lateral shoots. 6. The mean vessel diameter in various parts of a tree decreased with decreasing diameter of stem, but the number of vessels per unit area($mm^{-2}$) increased reversely. Mean vessel diameter in stem decreased sharply at earlywood and slowly at latewood with decreasing diameter of stem.
