Biodegradable films were prepared by solution blend method in the weight ratio of chitosan for the purpose of useful biomaterials. The possibility of biomaterials prepared from natural polymer as a skin substitute was evaluated by measuring biocompatibility. These films were inserts in the back of rat and their biodegradability was investigated by the film weight and hematology as a function of time for the biotransformation. The result of rat test showed that medium, high viscosity chitosan induced some suspects of inbiocompatibility in the tissue by goreign body reaction 48 and 72 hours after implantation. Also, we prepared the official burn ointment which is made by low viscosity chitosan. This burn ointment was covered on the skin wound of artificial burn and their effect of healing was investigated by the evaluation of the naked eye and hematological change as a function of time. The result of rats test showed that burn ointments made from chitosan was effective reductio of inflammation than negative group.
The ointment, had discovered and used from the ancient, have not ever defined to qualitity as the hardness concerned with the absorned With the absorption of the effect of durg through the skin. Auther, for the first time, suggest the apparent logarithmic hardness against the penetration of ointment registered on the pharmacopeia of the Republic of Korea, the results are as the followings. 1. The speciality of this apparent logarithmic hardness ie in proportion for the solidity on the contrary to the penetration of oiniment, and the distribution range of it are between 1.68 to 3.53 for their ointments examined. 2. The specific gravity of the verious ointments according to the apparent logarithmic hardness may be ignore on the calculaiotn, the mean valve of the samples was 2.9303. 3. The determination of apparent logarithmic hardness(H) by the penetration method follows the under equation. $H=log_{10}({\frac{P-0.545h^3}{0.855h^2}})$ where, the h is the penetrate length described centimeter, and p is the weight of the cone.
Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improved contact dermatitis(CD) treated with the herbal medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. The level V steroid ointments were no use to the patient 3weeks before the treatment. Methods : In this case, the patient was diagnosed according to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions' and took Mahwang-tang for 36days since the final diagnosis was Taeyang-byung, number 46 provision. The photographs of patient's hands were taken to observe the process of the skin status and the discomfort from CD was measured with DLQI(Dermatologic Life Quality Index) and NRS(Numeric Rating Scale). Results : The DLQI score changed from 24 to 7 and NRS of itching changed form 8 to under 4. Conclusions : This case report shows that the herbal medication through the diagnostic system could be a remedy on CD, dealing with the skin status with no use of the level V steroid ointments. It is needed proving an alternative possibility of Korean Medicine, on other skin diseases, with later studies since there are many reports on the side-effects after some long-term steroid treatments.
Backgrounds : Pompholyx is a distinctive reaction pattern presenting as symmetric vesicular hand and foot dermatitis. Other than acute symptoms like itching and vesicles, chronic changes with scaling, fissure and pain may follow. As patients are treated by steroid for a long period, it tends to present side effects after quitting steroid treatment. Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate the effect of carbon arc lamp therapy and oriental medical therapy that venesection therapy, ointments and herbal medicine on chronic plantar pompholyx including steroids side effects. Methods : We treated one case of chronic plantar pompholyx which had continued about 10 years, including steroids side effects with venesection therapy, carbon arc lamp therapy, ointments and herbal medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we categorized symptoms into six items which are vesicles, itching, fissures, pain, erosions and scales. Results : Except mild itching, vesicles and scales in a small area, all the symptoms were subsided. Conclusions : It is considered that various kinds of oriental medical therapy including carbon arc lamp therapy could replace steroid therapy which has many side effects.
The study was Investigated detectable limits of antibiotic drugs in treatment of mastitis by TTC II reduction test. The detectable limits of antibiotic drugs by TTC II reduction test were summarized as follows, 1. Detectable limits to compounds drugs were higher than those of monodrugs. 2. Detectable limits to ointments were lower than injections.

To make a bibliographical review on the most frequently used prescriptions and herbs in treating the uterine carcinoma. 43 texts in China and 6 texts in Korea published since 1980 were reviewed for this objective. 590 Oriental Herbal Medicine formulas composed of 457 herbs were investigated. The frequency and efficacy of each herb used were statistically analyzed. The most frequently used herbal medicine formulas were Danchisoyosan in hepatic Qi stasis, Sihosogan-tang mixed with Lungeumdaebo-tang in damage of conception and thoroughfare vessel, Danchisoyosangagam in blood heat, Hoangyunhaedok-tang in pattern of retained dampness-heat, Jibapjihang-tang in iver-kidney yin deficiency pattern, Naebohyunhapsamyoungbaekchulsan in spleen-kidney yang deficiency pattern. The herbal medicines most frequently used were; Angelicae gigantis radix(126 times), Phellodendri cortex(91 times), Borneolum(87 times), Glycyrrhizae radix and Paeoniae radix alba(82 times), Realgar and Alumen(80times), Poria(77 times), Astragali radix(75 times), Moschus and Myrrha(74 times), Coicis semen and Olibanum(73 times), Codonopsis pilosulae radix and Scutellaria bardata Don(70 times) etc. The effect of the most frequently used herbs were : heat-clearing medicine(12), blood-circulation and stasis-dispelling medicine(9), tonifying and replenishing medicine(5), ointments(5), heat-clearing and blood-cooling medicine(3) and etc. The most frequently used herbs may be applied in future animal studies and clinical trials. Also this data can be used as a reference in formulating new Oriental Herbal Medicine formulas for uterine carcinoma.

The wound healing activity of plumbagin and the chloroform extract of Plumbago rosea Linn. (Yoot), incorporated into ointments with yellow soft paraffin, have been investigated on rats. Wound healing activity was studied using excision and incision wound models in rats following topical application. Both plumbagin and the Plumbago rosea root extract produced a significant response in both of the wound models studied. The wound contracted in 14 days in the case of plumbagin (0.1%) and 16 days in case of Plumbago rosea root extract (0.5%), as against in 22 days in the case of control animals. The results were also comparable to those of a standard drug, framycetin sulphate cream (1% w/w) in terms of wound contracting ability, wound closure time, tensile strength of wound and regeneration of tissues at the wound site. Histological studies revealed evidences for the healing process by formation of fibrovascular tissue, epithelization and increased collagenization when compared to control.
Atopic Dermatitis has a number of characteristic symptoms, including itchy red spots and acute rashes that can ooze fluid and/or crust over. Currently, no cure exists as the fundamental cause of Atopic Dermatitis is not yet known. In this paper, the author reports on a case study in which Atopic Dermatitis patients are successfully treated by way of sweating. The described treatment method, called Poison Extraction Method, takes advantage of medical benefits of perspiring in hot bath or sauna. It assumes that the chronic symptoms suffered by Atopic Dermatitis patients are largely due to overuse of steroid-based ointments and attempts to extract resulting toxic elements by having patients sweat in either a hot bath or sauna or both. The exact prescription for sweating depends on the severity of the symptoms of individual patients. The described treatment has been successfully tested in a clinical trial, which we report in this paper.
