  • The pyrolysis of high density polyethylene(HDPE) and low density polyethylene(LDPE) was carried out at temperature between 425 and $500^{\circ}C$ from 35 to 80 minutes. The liquid products formed during pyrolysis were classified into gasoline, kerosene, gas oil and wax according to the petroleum product quality standard of Korea Petroleum Quality Inspection Institute. The conversion and yield of liquid products for HDPE pyrolysis increased continuously according to pyrolysis temperature and pyrolysis time. The influence of pyrolysis temperature was more severe than pyrolysis time for the conversion of HDPE. For example, the liquid products of HDPE pyrolysis at $450^{\circ}C$ for 65 minutes were ca. 30wt.% gas oil, 15wt.% wax, 14wt.% kerosene and 11wt.% gasoline. The increase of pyrolysis temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$ showed the increase of wax product and the decrease of kerosene. The conversion and yield of liquid products for LDPE pyrolysis continuously increased according to pyrolysis temperature and pyrolysis time, similar to HDPE pyrolysis. The liquid products of LDPE pyrolysis at $450^{\circ}C$ for 65 minutes were ca. 27wt.% gas oil, 18wt.% wax, 16wt.% kerosene and 13wt.% gasoline.

  • The inclusion complexes (ICs) between polylactic acid (PLA) and ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (CD) were prepared by co-precipitation method in this work. The orthogonal experiments were designed to investigate the influence of different factors on the formation of inclusion complexes. The results suggested that the optimum scheme of inclusion compounds could be obtained when the feeding ratio of CD to PLA (wt%) was 20:1, stirring speed was 6 kr/min and the stirring time was 30 min. The structures and properties of the inclusion complexes were characterized by $^1H$ NMR, FTIR, DSC, FT-Raman, XRD and TGA. The DSC results demonstrated that the crystallization behavior of the inclusion complexes nearly disappeared. It was found that ${\beta}$-CD-PLA inclusion complex had a better thermal stability compared with the neat PLA. The model of the inclusion complexes was proposed on the basis of XRD, $^1H$ NMR and DSC results.

  • Aiming at the corrosion circumstances and corrosion prevention needs of downhole oil tubes, series protective coatings for downhole oil tubes have been developed in the authors' laboratory, including a baked type coating YG-01 and an air curing type coating YG-03, etc. The performance investigation of the coatings has been done for testing their corrosion resistance, mainly including salt fog test, immersion test in oil-field waste water and various acid solutions, high temperature and high pressure test in alkali solution or $H_2S/CO_2$ environment, as well as some other performances. The investigation results show that oil tube anti-corrosion coatings developed here can endure over 4000 hrs salt fog test, over 1000 hrs immersion in various acid solutions at room temperature and in boiling oil-field waste water. In addition, the coatings can keep intact after experiencing test in alkali solution under 70 MPa pressure at $150^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs, and in simulative sour gas environment under the total pressure of 32 MPa ($P_{H_{2}S}=3.2MPa$, $P_{CO_{2}}=3.2MPa$) at $90^{\circ}C$ for 168 hrs, which show that the coatings can be used for corrosion prevention in downhole environments with specific high temperature and high pressure, such as sour gas wells. The other testing results show the oil tube protective coatings have excellent comprehensive performance.

  • Recently, due to the change to SASB(Sustainability Accounting Standards Board) and GRI(Global Reporting Initiative) Standards 2021, the paradigm for non-financial information disclosure is changing significantly, with the number of ESG topics and indicators that must be disclosed by industry from an autonomous material topic selection method. This study revealed that the number of compulsory topics in the oil and gas industry by GRI standards 2021 is up to 2.4 times higher than the average number of material topics disclosed when domestic companies publish sustainability reports using GRI Standards 2020. In the oil and gas industry, I analyzed the similarities and differences between the GRI standards 2021 and the ESG topics covered by SASB by environmental, social, economic, and governance areas. In addition, the materiality test process, which is different in GRI standards 2021, is introduced, and the issues included in the following 10 representative ESG-related initiatives are summarized into 62 and suggested improvement plans for materiality test used in the topic pool.

  • Microorganisms specifically groups of bacteria exhibiting physiological activities of production of acids are a major cause of concern because of their ability to induce corrosion in oil field pipelines and metal systems involved in water handling. Water Injection Stations as a means of secondary recovery from existing oil producing reservoirs, are often employed in most upstream oil and gas industries to ensure replenishment of voidage, maintenance of reservoir pressure and optimization of crude emulsion throughput. In the present study, scanning electron microscopy of macroscopic orange coloured slime formations sampled from leaking valves on the flow-lines of a Water Injection Stations of Oil India Limited revealed the presence of filamentous bacterial mats in association with diatoms. The species composition of the acidic slime formations from the sampled locations reveal the possible role of acid producing iron oxidizing bacteria (IOB) like Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans in association with Gomphonema sp. in creating conditions for bio-corrosion.

  • Bio fuel oil combustion experiments were successfully demonstrated at the 75 MWe oil-fired power plant without major equipment retrofit and 100% bio-fuel oil combustion was possible without big problems. The experimental data error correction was conducted and numerical model-based analysis technique was applied for the evaluation of the results. Incase of bio fuel oil combustion, heat absorption of radiative heat transfer section was reduced while convection section has opposite trend. The furnace exit gas temperature tends to rise slightly. Environment emissions such as NOx and SOx concentrations showed a tendency to decrease during the bio fuel oil combustion period. On the other hand, boiler efficiency was slightly underestimated.

  • In this paper, the effects of scale formation in engine water jacket upon the thermal durability of engine itself and its component parts were studied. To understand the effect of quality of water, a full load engine endurance test for 50 hours was carried out with not-treated underground water. The followings were found through the tested engine inspection after the endurance test; 1-2 mm thick scale formation in the engine water jacket, valve seat wear, piston top land scuffing, piston pin stick, and cylinder bore scuffing in siamese area. In order to understand the causes of above test results, the heat rejection rate to coolant, the metal surface temperature of combustion chamber, and the oil and exhaust gas temperatures were measured and analyzed. The scale formed in the engine water jacket played a role as thermal insulator. The scale formed in the engine reduced the heat rejection rate to coolant and it caused to increase the metal surface temperature. The reduced heat rejection rate to coolant increased the heat rejection rate to oil and exhaust gas and increased the oil and exhaust gas temperature. Also, the reasons of valve seat wear, piston top land scuffing and cylinder bore scuffing, and piston pin stick quantitatively analyzed in this paper.

  • Radiological hazards from external exposure of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) scales residues, generated during the extraction process of oil and gas production in southern Algeria, are evaluated. The activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K were measured using high-purity gamma-ray spectrometry (GeHP). Mean activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K, found in scale samples are 4082 ± 41, 1060 ± 38 and 568 ± 36 Bq kg-1, respectively. Radiological hazard parameters, such as radium equivalent (Raeq), external and internal hazard indices (Hex, Hin), and gamma index (Iγ) are also evaluated. All hazard parameter values were greater than the permissible and recommended limits and the average annual effective dose value exceeded the dose constraint (0.3 mSv y-1). However, for occasionally exposed workers, the dose rate of 0.65 ± 0.02 mSv y-1 is lower than recommended limit of 1 mSv y-1 for public.

  • Electrical insulation is one of the most important part in a high voltage apparatus. Recently, researchers are interested in the environmental friendly vegetable oil from environmental viewpoint. Accelerated aging transformer insulating material in vegetable oil was compared to that of mineral oil. Accelerated aging oil samples produced in the oven at $140^{\circ}C$ for 500, 1000, 1500, 2000hours. And Real transformer insulation oils samples of vegetable oil and mineral oil were aged by thermal cycles repeating from $30^{\circ}C$ to $120^{\circ}C$. Samples were analyzed at 42, 63, 93, 143, 190, 240, 300 cycles. The mineral and vegetable insulating oils were investigated for breakdown voltage, water content, total acid number, viscosity, volume resistivity, insulating paper and oil permittivity, and dissolved gas analyses. The breakdown voltage of the vegetable insulating oil is higher than that found for the mineral oil; the accelerated aging progress decreased the breakdown voltage. The vegetable oil had a higher water saturation than the mineral oil; the vegetable oil has the superior water characteristics and breakdown voltage. And high viscosity of vegetable oil, care has to be taken, especially when designing the cooling system for a large transformer.
