  • This study's aim is to examine child's life competency that middle high school parents perceive and study the influence of parenting stress, parent efficacy, depression, parent education participation on child's life competency. The study was conducted towards parents who have children attending middle school and high school in Dae-jeon. Official cooperation documents were sent to middle schools and high schools located in Dae-jeon in April, 2013. Surveys were sent by e-mail and a total of 800 replies (excluding those with missing data) collected throughout December 10th to 20th, 2013 were used in the final data analysis. SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs were used for analysis and subject's general characteristics and percentage were analyzed. Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient was used in order to examine the variant's relation. Path model analysis was used to study variant's path and direct and indirect effects of the paths were analyzed as well as the significance. The study's results showed that child life competency and related variants had a high correlation and path model analysis showed that parenting stress, parent efficacy, depression, participation of parent education had a direct and indirect influence on child's life competency. Parenting stress has influence on parent efficacy and depression, but parent education has a different influence on child's life efficacy according to participation. Based on these results, policy suggestions are made throughout family academic perspectives in order to enhance child's life competency.

  • The aim of this work was to assess the Delvo test for the detection of antimicrobial residues in goat milk. A total of fifty six samples (eight farms, seven samplings each) were analyzed by the Delvo, Eclipse 100, and Parallux tests. None of the samples showed positive results with the Parallux test which is based on immune-chemical methods. However, 37.5% of samples showed positive results with the Delvo test. 3.6% of samples showed positive results with the Eclipse 100 test, which is based on a microbiological method. The Delvo test is included in the 'standard methods for the examination of raw milk' by the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service as a microbiological method used for the detection of antimicrobial residues. Because "raw milk" is defined as 'milked state of cow, ewe and goat milk for sale or for processing' in the Animal Food Products Processing Law, the Delvo test should be excluded from the 'standard method for the examination of raw milk', or additional official documents referring to the Delvo test as not appropriate for the detection of antimicrobial residues of goat milk are required.

  • Recently in order to more effectively and scientifically process forest official tasks, which have been focused on documents and inventories, they should be applied with the up-to-date spatial information technologies. Especially, the forest resource information management based on GIS(geographic information system) and aerial orthophoto is expected not only to play an important role as DSS(decision support system) for domestic forest conservation policy and forestry development industry but also to service forest resource information toward people such as the owners of a mountain rapidly. In this study, the important forest information such as digital topography map, digital forest type map, digital forest cadastral map, digital aerial photographs and attribute data were first reprocessed and constructed in DBMS(data base management system). In addition, forest officials could analyze and retrieve forest information by using detail sub-application systems such as forest cadastral retrieval, forest land development information management, reserved forest information management and forest resource information retrieval. For this, the user interface is developed by using Visual Basic 6.0 and MapObjects 2.1 of ESRI based on CBD(component based development) technology. The result of developing this system will not only perform constructing economical forest and better environment but also be the foundation of domestic spatial technology for forest resource management.

  • The aim of this study is to examine who had participated as members of the editorial staffs and their role in the Independent. In spite of the historical significance of the Independent, this topic was not treated properly by related studies. Moreover many studies mainly based on the Philip Jaisohn's autobiography showed the tendency to overemphasize his role. This study tried to overcome the limitations of the existing studies by critical reinterpretation of the historical materials and some new documents. The result of this study shows that 9 persons participated in the Independent. They are Philip Jaisohn, Joo Si-kyung, Yoon Chi-ho, Homer B. Hulbert, Son Seung-yong, Lee Jun-il, Henry Gerhart Appenzeller, H. Emberley and George Cobb. Five person including Jaisohn were Koreans and the rest were foreigners. Hulbert took part in editing English edition confidentially during some month from the beginning. Son Seung-yong seems to be the only one man to participate from beginning to end. Lee Jun-il was not a editorial staff but a treasurer, and Cobb participated temporarily in proofreading. Hulbert and Cobb were not official staff.

  • This study examined the organizational status of female employees in three major over-the-air broadcasting companies in South Korea in terms of both formal and informal organizational structures. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted for the data collected through the official statistical documents on Korean broadcasting industries, in-person/telephone interviews, and survey. The results show that the proportion of female employees in the three major over-the-air broadcasting companies remained relatively unchanged at about as low as 10 per cents during the past 10 years, Furthermore, most of them are positioned in the lower hierarchical positions. The informal organizational status of female employees in terms of informal organizational culture, informal network, and mentoring, also reveals inequal conditions in many respects. Concerning role assignments, no significant evidence of sexual discrimination was found. Discrimination against women in assigning core roles such as political and economic news reporting and drama producing, however, was still prevailing. Currently, a marked increase of female proportion is observed among newly hired reporters, producers, and announcers. In the long term, these trends can bring positive changes in the status of female employees in the broadcasting industry organization.

  • The Toyo Bunko (東洋文庫) in Tokyo, Japan is one of the largest library that holds the Korean old geographical documents. About 200 topographies of counties and prefectures, including Giinhansangnyang 杞人間商量 which recorded compilation and improvement plan of the geographical annals belong to it. Several maps and geographical annals of Joseon Period possessed in the Toyo Bunko are set high values on geography since the materials are only belong to it and have not yet been found in Korea. There are very important map collections including six copies of Daedongyeojido 大東輿地圖(1861, 1864) by Kim Jeongho(金正浩) and Suseonjeondo 首善全圖 by Kim, Jungho, collectible stamp of Maema Kyosaku(前間恭作) is imprinted on it, and Gangyeokjundo 疆域全圖 and Dongyeodo 東輿圖 which made with 20-ri and 10-ri grid, owned by Sidehara Daira(幣原坦). Especially Gwanbukjido 關北地圖 which is the northern border map recorded the Lee Sam's(李森) preface who served as a military official of Hamgyeong and Pyeongan Province in early 18th century. These maps and some other maps have a historical value to supplement of the history of Korean Cartography.

  • The price for health service are decided by very complicated process because many of factors are related with them. The RBRVS(resource-based relative value scale) were used to calculate the Korean health service fees including dental fees. This study aimed to compare dental fees of Korea with other countries, such as Japan, Germany, and the US for evaluating the adequacy. Dental fees were categorized as oral evaluation and imaging, dental treatment including restorative, periodontal, and surgical work, and preventive treatment and compared by each country. The official documents about dental fees were collected from Korea, Japan, Germany, and the US. Each fee was presented as their own currency at first. Then they were converted into Korean won (KRW) by applying the market exchange rates at a specific point of time. Finally the fees were adjusted by purchasing power parities (PPPs) which equalize the different currencies. In general, the level of Korean fees were markedly low compared to those of Japan, Germany, and the US. German fees were similar or higher than that of Japan, and the US. The Korean fees were lower than three other countries 1.2~4.1 times for oral evaluation and 2.2~7.3 times lower for panoramic radiography. The endodontic fees of Japan, Germany, and the US were higher 1.8~15.3 times and 4.0~35.9 times for the deciduous teeth extraction compared to the Korean. In Japan the prophylaxis was 3.2 times more priced than the Korean fee. Exceptionally, the fees for re-evaluation, amalgam filling, and scaling were lower priced in Japan than other countries. This study has limitations on the items in definition and contents of dental practices units which were not exactly comparable and differently determined by countries. However, this study is meaningful because it surveyed the price levels to compare four different countries and then applied PPPs adjustment. This finding can be used to develop the dental RBRVs of Korean national health insurance and will contribute to improving the payment systems of health care.

  • We analyzed a time series composed of the annual precipitations of Seoul based on the measurements of a Korean raingage and a modern raingage. The precipitations measured with a Korean raingage for the period of 1771 to 1907 are followed by the precipitations with a modern raingage for the period of 1908 to 1990. The latter part of the time series of annual precipitations were obtained from a book for annual precipitations of Korea by Korea Meteorological Administration and the former from Wada's table 1 for monthly precipitations reproduced from the daily rainfall measurements by a Korean raingage for the period of the Yi Dynasty. In our analysis three different precipitation regimes clearly stand out of the entire period. In order to define objectively the period of each precipitation regime we made a time series of 9 year moving averages from the above time series. By taking into account the shapes of the moving average time series and by using a threshold value of annual precipitation 1050 mm, we defined three precipitation regimes of wet period 1(WP1), dry period (DP), and wet period 2 (WP2). The WP1 and WP2 show very similar characteristics in out statistical analyses. On the other hand, DP is very different from the two periods in many statistical aspects. The strong similarities of the WP1 and WP2 regimes in the magnitudes of statistical parameters and in the shapes of their power spectrum distribution are supporting very positively the soundness of precipitation amounts measured with a Korean raingage in spite of numerous conceivable errors which might have been introduced into measurements of precipitation due to changes of observation site and environment, the scale of units employed, and urbanization of Seoul, etc. However, the annual precipitation amounts are not enough to examine throughly the characteristic of precipitation variations during the two regimes. It is definitely necessarly to recover the daily amounts of precipitation, based on two or three times measurements of rainfall with a Korean raingage, scattered in various ancient documents such as the official diary of 'Seungjeong-weon'

  • Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are government initiated tutoring services to strengthen basic skills of academically underachieving students and thus close achievement gaps among students. Recently, however, the direction of SES has shifted its gear away from the test-driven accountability system in the United States (US) and Korea. Based on related literature, official documents, and statistics data, this study investigates major aspects of SES in the US and Korea, suggesting implications for future SES in the two countries. Major findings illustrate; 1) SES both in the US and Korea aim to serve students with underachievement yet place a primary emphasis on academics, 2) the US and Korea show contrasting results of SES in students' academic achievement, 3) the US and Korea use different approaches in selecting SES participants, which is closely related to equality in educational opportunities, 4) the major difference between the US and Korea is the openness of real markets for SES. Based on these findings, this study proposes practical implications for future SES in Korea and the US.

  • Purpose: The purpose is to provide basic information for establishing improvements on performance-based pay's evaluation method of health teachers. Methods: For subjects, 200 teachers at public elementary schools and 200 health teachers at public elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do were conveniently sampled, and then surveyed through a questionnaire. The questionnaire was to recognize recognition of teachers working under the teacher's performance-based pay system, which was quoted in the questionnaire of Choi ji-hye (2005) and Lee mi-gyeong (2008). Inquiry for the recognition of teachers on evaluation of health teacher's performance-based pay system and improvements on the performance-based pay's evaluation method of health teachers were used after consultation with five incumbent health teachers and a review with the thesis director. Results: The performance-based pay's evaluation method of health teachers has the same method with general teachers in schools, so it is not fair to evaluate the performance of health teachers. The ways to improve the performance-based pay evaluation method of health teachers is as follows: first, the approval on improving 'the number of class hours' which is a detailed item of a teacher's performance evaluation criterion to 'the number of health lesson hours per week and the number of students visiting the school infirmary per week'; second, improving 'life guidance' into 'counseling results of medically-treated students, parents of students and personal hygiene guidance'; third, improving 'a teacher in charge' into 'awarding of points by being recognized as a health teacher in charge of all students and considering the economic situation of the region,; forth, improving 'difficulty of position' into 'the number of health-teacher's annual promotion task items and the treatment number of issuing and receiving of official documents', and improving the 'task difficulty' into 'importance and urgency of emergency patient management, risk level and urgency of infectious diseases and avoiding work in charge' appeared to be more than 90% respectively. Conclusion: The performance-based pay system of teachers being carried out every year should be executed by preparing fair evaluation criteria suitable for task properties and the role of health teachers with different evaluation criteria compared to general teachers.
