Structural Design and Performance Evaluation of a Mid-story Seismic Isolated High-Rise Building

  • This paper describes some of the challenges for structural design of a mid-story seismic isolated high-rise building, which is located near Tokyo station, completed in 2015. The building is a mixed-use complex and encompasses three volumes: one substructure including basement and lower floors, and a pair of seismic isolated superstructures on the substructure. One is a 136.5m high Main Tower (office use), and the other is a 98.5 m high South Tower (hotel use). The seismic isolation systems are arranged in the $3^{rd}$ floor of the Main Tower and $5^{th}$ floor of the South Tower, so that we call this isolation system as the mid-story seismic isolation. The primary goal of the structural design of this building was to secure high seismic safety against the largest earthquake expected in Tokyo. We adopted optimal seismic isolation equipment simulated by dynamic analysis to minimize building damage. On the other hand, wind-induced vibration of a seismic isolated high-rise building tends to be excited. To reduce the vibration, the following strategies were adopted respectively. In the Main Tower with a large wind receiving area, we adopted a mechanism that locks oil dampers at the isolation level during strong wind. In the South Tower, two tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are installed at the top of the building to control the vibration. In addition, our paper will also report the building performance evaluated for wind and seismic observation after completion of the building. In 2016, an earthquake of seismic intensity 3 (JMA scale) occurred twice in Tokyo. The acceleration reduction rate of the seismic isolation level due to these earthquakes was approximately 30 to 60%. These are also verified by dynamic analysis using observed acceleration data. Also, in April 2016, a strong wind exceeding the speed of 25m/s occurred in Tokyo. On the basis of the record at the strong wind, we confirmed that the locking mechanism of oil damper worked as designed.

Development of a nonlinear seismic response capacity spectrum method for intake towers of dams

  • The seismic-induced failure of a dam could have catastrophic consequences associated with the sudden release of the impounded reservoir. Depending on the severity of the seismic hazard, the characteristics and size of the dam-reservoir system, preventing such a failure scenario could be a problem of critical importance. In many cases, the release of water is controlled through a reinforced-concrete intake tower. This paper describes the application of a static nonlinear procedure known as the Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) to evaluate the structural integrity of intake towers subject to seismic ground motion. Three variants of the CSM are considered: a multimodal pushover scheme, which uses the idea proposed by Chopra and Goel (2002); an adaptive pushover variant, in which the change in the stiffness of the structure is considered; and a combination of both approaches. The effects caused by the water surrounding the intake tower, as well as any water contained inside the hollow structure, are accounted for by added hydrodynamic masses. A typical structure is used as a case study, and the accuracy of the CSM analyses is assessed with time history analyses performed using commercial and structural analysis programs developed in Matlab.

철원 자동농업기상관측자료의 품질보증 및 대표성 향상을 위한 제언 (Suggestions for improving data quality assurance and spatial representativeness of Cheorwon AAOS data)

  • 농업은 인간의 활동 중 기상 활동에 가장 종속적이며, 기후 변화 및 기상 재해와 같은 대기 변동성의 증가 속에서 농업기상서비스의 중요성은 점점 증가하고 있다. 유용한 농업기상서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 관측 자료의 품질 관리와 더불어 실제 농경 활동 현장을 대표할 수 있는 곳에서의 기상 관측이 필수적이다. 이를 위해 기상청에서는 자동농업기상관측망(AAOS)을 실제 농경지 근처로 재배치하는 등 관측망 환경을 개선하고 있지만, 아직까지 모든 농업기상관측이 실제영농 환경이 아닌 잔디밭에서 이루어지고 있는 문제가 남아 있다. 기온, 상대 습도, 토양 온도, 토양 수분 관측요소는 지표면의 식생 형태와 관개 등의 영농 활동에 큰 영향을 받는데, 현재의 농업기상관측은 이러한 요소들의 영향을 관측하는데 근본적인 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 AAOS 관측 자료의 시간적, 연직적 변이를 분석하고, 실제 농경지 위에 설치된 국가농림기상센터(NCAM) 타워에서 관측하고 있는 공통 기상 및 토양 관측 요소를 비교하여, AAOS 관측 자료의 특성 및 문제점을 분석하였다. 분석 시기는 결측이 가장 적고 추수 이전인 8월과 추수 이후인 10월로 선정하였다. 각 관측 요소별로 관측 높이 및 깊이에 차이가 있었으므로, 차이가 가장 적은 높이 또는 깊이 값을 비교대상으로 선정하였다. 기온의 경우 AAOS 4 m 관측 값이 NCAM타워 관측 값이 비해 낮과 밤 또는 추수이전과 이후 모두 낮았으며, 큰 일중 변화 없이 일정한 차이를 유지하였다. 수증기압 역시 NCAM 관측 값이 AAOS 관측 값에 비해 항상 높았으며, 8월이 10월에 비해 더 큰 차이를 보였다. AAOS 순단파복사의 경우 AAOS 관측 반사복사량이 NCAM 관측 값에 비해 높은 경향을 보였다. 한편, 토양 관측 요소는 대기 관측요소에 비해 더 큰 차이를 보였다. 추수 이전인 8월에는 대부분 논에 물이 차 있었으며, 그로 인해 NCAM 관측 토양 온도가 AAOS 관측 토양 온도에 비해 낮았으며, 일 변화 폭 역시 작았다. NCAM 관측 토양 수분은 강수 여부와 관계 없이 지속적으로 포화상태를 유지하는 반면, AAOS 관측 토양 수분은 강수에 의해 증가한 뒤 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 추수 이후인 10월에는 8월과 다른 경향을 보였다. 토양 온도의 경우, NCAM 관측 값과 AAOS 관측 값의 일 평균값은 비슷하였으나 일 변화 폭은 NCAM 관측 값이 더 컸다. 토양 수분은 NCAM 관측 값이 지속적으로 높았으나, 두 관측 값 모두 강수에 의해 상승하고 증발 또는 배수에 의해 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이상의 결과는 AAOS 관측 자료의 품질 관리 문제와 함께 논과 잔디밭이라는 지표면 피복 및 영농 활동의 영향을 반영하지 못하는 대표성 문제를 보여주는 것으로서, 본 연구는 2011년 이후 이루어지고 있는 기상청 농업기상관측장비의 농지 부근 이동 작업에 이은 후속 조치로, 농업기상 관측을 대표할 수 있도록 잔디밭이 아닌 논, 밭, 과수원 등 실제 지역 대표 농업 현장에 설치되어야 함을 제언한다.

A Study on the Evaluation Method for the Degree of Integration towards Office Towers in Different Climate Zones

  • High rise office buildings represent one of the most energy-intensive architectural typologies. The growth of urban population necessitates sustainable high rise towers that lessen environmental impacts and energy consumption. Among various sustainable strategies, the integrated design is long known to be an important process that has great impact on building's sustainability. The framework for this paper is based on the case study of integrated towers that are located in different climate zones. The paper specifically addresses to what extent climate conditions influence the design of a high rise building and what kinds of the climate integrated design has been implemented. Qualitative case studies were carried out using published data and architectural drawing set. The technical work presented in the paper is based on computer simulation that examines the insolation analysis using hourly recorded weather data. The analysis results revealed that the site and building envelope integration and the site and building service systems have shown the most frequently employed in the integrated towers through the implementation of renewable resource integration, high performance envelopes and sustainable building service systems. Internal comfort and further energy saving in the integrated towers are offered through an automatic building management system. Due to the dynamic climate conditions, integration of building systems requires a sophisticated approach to building sustainability.

Performance-based Wind-resistant Design for High-rise Structures in Japan

  • This paper introduces the current status of high-rise building design in Japan, with reference to some recent projects. Firstly, the design approval system and procedures for high-rise buildings and structures in Japan are introduced. Then, performance-based wind-resistant design of a 300 m-high building, Abeno Harukas, is introduced, where building configuration, superstructure systems and various damping devices are sophisticatedly integrated to ensure a higher level of safety and comfort against wind actions. Next, design of a 213 m-high building is introduced with special attention to habitability against the wind-induced horizontal motion. Finally, performance-based wind-resistant design of a 634 m-high tower, Tokyo Sky Tree, is introduced. For this structure, the core column system was adopted to satisfy the strict design requirements due to the severest level of seismic excitations and wind actions.

Strength Evaluation for Cap Plate on the Node Connection in Circular Steel Tube Diagrid System

  • Diagrid system has been in the spotlight for its superiority in terms of the resistance to lateral force when applied to skyscrapers. In diagrid system, most of columns can be eliminated because vertical loads (gravity loads) and horizontal loads (lateral loads) are delivered simultaneously thanks to the triangular shape of diagrid. However, lack of studies on connection shape and node connection details makes it hard to employ the system to the buildings. In this study, the structural safety of the node connections in circular steel tube diagrid system which has been considered in the Cyclone Tower in Korea (Seven stories below and fifty-one above the ground) was evaluated using the 4 full-scale specimens. The parameters are the extended length (20 mm, 40 mm & 60 mm), thickness (40 mm & 50 mm).

냉각탑수의 레지오넬라균과 박테리아균 등 미생물 분포 및 상관성 비교 (A Comparison of Legionella and Bacteria etc. microbe distribution and correlation in Cooling Towers Water)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the distribution of Legionella spp and microbe from cooling towers water of Public establishments in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do. As results of this study, the cooling tower 132 sites were detecting L. pneumophila in order to July(12%) > August (14%) > June, September no-detected. The public establishments were detecting L. pneumophila in order to Department store(27.3%) > Hospital(8.7%) > Office(5.9%) > Big Mart(5.0%) > Hotel, Subway no-detected. The correlation coefficient pH and L.pneumophila showed 0.62(p=0.05), 0.27(p=0.45) in temperature and L.pheumophila, 0.40(p=0.25) in turbidity and L.pneumophila.

  • A temporary work are lifting equipment that tower crane or lift, and temporary architectures that office building and storage in construction site. And it is main construction work that built and used temporarily like to a scaffolding, a walk plate, and a formwork. This study is to adjust breakdown structure of temporary work to introduce technical tendency. With a site manager, it is collected a detailed statement and compared. As a result to break down a tendency that temporary equipment, additional function, and direct work of temporary technique, first, existing detail technical indexes that group I, group J, group K, and group L are classified. Second, due to set up and manage to main agents in case of existing detail technical indexes that B1, B2, it is not wrong to classify. But, it is somewhat different, and therefore adjust it to same level. Finally, as a technical tendency that temporary equipment, additional function, and direct work of temporary technique, it is adjusted the others.

Optimum design of cable-stayed bridges

  • This paper presents a procedure to minimize the cost of materials of cable-stayed bridges with composite box girder and concrete tower. Two sets of iterations are included in the proposed procedure. The first set of iteration performs the structural analysis for a cable-stayed bridge. The second set of iteration performs the optimization process. The design is formulated as a general mathematical problem with the cost of the bridge as the objective function and bending forces, shear forces, fatigue stresses, buckling and deflection as constraints. The constraints are developed based on the Canadian National Standard CAN/CSA-S6-88. The finite element method is employed to perform the complicated nonlinear structural analysis of the cable-stayed bridges. The internal penalty function method is used in the optimization process. The limit states design method is used to determine the load capacity of the bridge. A computer program written in FORTRAN 77 is developed and its validity is verified by several practical-sized designs.

심층 방류하는 안동호 내 탁수의 거동 (Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Turbid Water in Hypolimnetic Discharging Reservoir)

  • 본 연구는 심수층의 고정 취수구를 통해 방류하는 안동댐을 대상으로 1일 최대 99.4 mm, 총 299.1 mm인 단일사상의 강우로 유입된 고탁수의 호소 내 시 공간적인 거동과 방류수의 탁도가 감소하는 경향을 조사하였다. 유입된 고탁수는 중류지점부터 호소 바닥에서 이탈되어 중층 밀도류로 최하류까지 이동하였다. 강우 이전의 호소 내 탁도는 10 NTU 이하의 균일한 분포를 보였으나 강우에 의해 수심 16 m에 최고 290 NTU의 고탁수대가 형성되었다. 고탁수는 강우 후 3일부터 방류수의 탁도를 상승시켰으며 5일째에 129 NTU로 최고 탁도를 보였다. 댐까지 이동한 탁수층은 취수구 상부 5 m 이내의 수심에 최고 농도로 분포하였으며 하류 방류에 의해 탁수층의 두께와 농도가 감소하였다. 방류수의 탁도가 30 NTU까지 감소하는데 38일, 강우 이전의 상태로 회복되는데 87일이 소요되었으며, 감소경향의 상관계수는 각각 0.96, 0.97이었다. 중층에서 밀도류를 형성한 고탁수는 취수구 직상부에 분포하면서 취수구 방향으로 점차 유인되어 하류로 배출되었으며 호소 바닥으로의 침강은 일어나지 않았다. 안동호로 유입된 고탁수는 심층에 위치한 취수구를 통해 효과적으로 배출되므로 취수구 위치는 고탁수 배제에 적정한 것으로 판단된다.
