  • Varietal difference in root distribution and other root characteristics were investigated under fold and water culture condition. The results were as follows: 1. IR667 showed funnel type of root distribution in soil profit while Jinheung had barrel type, and each type appearance was more distinguishable with fertilizer application. 2. Root weight per tiller was smaller in IR667 than in Jinheung and IR667 had more root in 0 to 5cm of soil depth but Jinheung had more in 5 to l0cm depth. 3. Horizontal distribution of root was dencer near to stem base without fertilizer than with fertilizer in both IR667 and Jinheung indicating structural construction for intensive nutrient uptake. Between varieties this 'dence to stem base' trend accompaning 'dence to wide spacing side' was greater in IR667 without fertilizer and these were quite true with fertilizer in Jinheung. 4. The decreasing rates of root and ear weight by fertilizer application were greater in IR667 than in Jinheung. This and other characteristics indicated that the root of IR667 is likely to be panicle-number type comparing with Jinheung. 5. The root of IR667 had lower oxidizing power of ${\alpha}-naphthylamine$ than that of Jinheung indicating weaker resistance to reductive soil but cation exchange capacity of water-cultured root was higher in IR667 suggesting stronger nutrient uptake. 6. The content of phosphorus and especially potassium in root were higher with fertilizer but lower without fertilizer in IR667 than in Jinheung indicating that IR667 is more sensitive to root environment. 7. The contents of N, K and CEC were increasing toward root tip while P content was decreasing. The root from surface soil had higher N and K content than that from subsoil. The contents of N,P,K, and CEC of root at harvesting stage were about 1.0%, 0.1%, 0.5% and 15me/100g at dry weight base, respectively.

  • Two insecticides, commonly used for Chinese cabbage, etofenprox and methoxyfenozide, were subjected to a field residue trial to evaluate safeties of the residues at harvest. The pesticides were sprayed onto the crop at recommended and double doses 10 days before the prearranged harvest and then sampling was done at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12 days after spraying. The amounts of pesticides residues in the crop were analyzed by chromatographic methods. Limits of detection (LODs) of both etofenprox and methoxyfenozide were $0.01mg\;kg^{-1}$ and mean recoveries were $96.76{\pm}2.67$ (CV=2.76%) and $95.84{\pm}2.57%$(CV=2.69%) in case of etofenprox and $103.26{\pm}3.21$ (CV=3.11%) and $94.50{\pm}1.35%$(CV=1.43%) in case of methoxyfenozide, respectively. Biological half-lives of etofenprox and methoxyfenozide were 3.2 and 3.5 days at the recommended dose and 2.7 and 3.5 days at the double dose, respectively. Initial residue levels of the pesticides at the recommended and double doses exceeded their MRLs, but final residue levels of the pesticides in the crop samples at harvest were less than their MRLs. The ratios of the EDI to ADI by intake the crop harvested 10 days after spraying were less than 4% of their ADIs, representing that residue levels of two pesticides at harvest were evaluated as safe.

  • This study aims to reveal the distribution of native plants, rare plants, and specialty plants and provides basic data for efficient ecosystem management through a survey of the flora in Mt. Chijae (Gamagol) and its adjacent areas in Damyang-gun, Jeonnam-do, while also identifying useful plants in the eco-city Damyang-gun for distinctive garden plants. A total of 21 field surveys were conducted from March 2022 to June 2023 to collect and identify 492 taxa consisting of 101 families, 304 genera, 444 species, 10 subspecies, 35 varieties, and 3 formas. The analysis of the prepared sample list showed 14 taxa designated as specialty plants, 9 taxa designated as rare plants by the Korea Forest Service, 7 taxa designated as the national red (i.e., endangered) plants by the Ministry of Environment, and 68 taxa with phylogenetic specific species, of which 45 taxa for Grade I, 5 taxa for Grade II, 16 taxa for Grade III, and 2 taxa for Grade IV were confirmed. The list included 155 taxa of biological resources subject to export approval by the Ministry of Environment and 38 taxa of alien plants of which 7.7 percent were naturalized, and the urbanization index was 6.1 percent. Four taxa were ecosystem-disturbing invasive alien plants designated by the Ministry of Environment introduced artificially or naturally from abroad. This study is expected to contribute to creating unique and attractive landscapes in Damyang if the specific plants found in Mt. Chijae are grown and planted in city gardens.

  • The efficiences of mineral acid (HCl), neutral salts ($CaCl_2$), and chelating agent (citric acid and $Na_2$-EDTA) were tested for extracting heavy metals from open burning and open detonation (OBOD) site soil. The extraction efficiencies of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn from soil for various extractants were in the order of HCl > citric acid > $Na_2$-EDTA > $CaCl_2$, HCl (1.0 M) extracted effectively 82%, 86%, 80%, and 46% of initial total concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively. Significant negative correlations were observed between pH of extractant and amount of extracted heavy metals. Initially, examined heavy metals were predominantly bound to carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide fraction. Though the significant amount of carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide bounded metals were removed but a significant amount remained metals shifted to exchangeable (more mobile) fraction by HCl and citric acid extraction. The increased mobility of remaining metals could be problematic for water resources, thus careful management is needed to control the movement of heavy metals.

  • Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) affects physical and mental state of person who is residing indoor. Also, it manages daily life condition of Indoor Air in the building. According to the study, office workers spend 23 hours and 12 minutes, about 97% of his/her day indoor. Therefore, Indoor air quality affects not only the health of the person whose staying inside for a long hours but also the productivity and efficiency of work. This study conduct investigations on employees' awareness of indoor air quality of office in university. By doing so, we are able to determine current situation and provide basic data of improvement for derived problems. As a result, most of the respondents were not satisfied with ventilation and moisture which are elements of Indoor Air Quality. These led people to struggle with symptoms of health. Therefore, to improve the indoor air quality of a university office, it is necessary to exchange the air six times an hour according to recommendation of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)in the United States. Also, plan for Ventilation system that consider temperature, humidity and air flow indoor shall be provided for high quality conformability. furthermore, It is necessary to consider the multilateral in factors of generation of revenue through health care savings of workers and improvement of productivity.
