In this paper, we analyze the I/Q imbalances effects at the WiBro uplimk when using direct-conversion RF transceiver. If I/Q imbalance exists, the transmit signal is spread over two sbcarriers. As a result, phenomenon of performance reducing is produced. Contrary to OFDM system in which one user uses all subcarrier, symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned other users in OFDMA system. I/Q imbalances elements can't be estimated such a conventional allocation method of tiles in subchannel and compensated. In order to solve the problem, We propose a new method in order that symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned one user. If novel method is applied, we can estimate I/Q imbalances and compensate distortion received signal. As a result, we can obtain a performance similar performance when I/Q imbalances is not existed. Also, if proper detection methods are used, we get the effect of performance improvement, because of diversity gain what is happened due to combining I/Q imbalances with multi path fading channel.
This paper proposes a novel approach to interference avoidance via inter-cell relaying in cellular OFDMA-TDD (orthogonal frequency division multiple access - time division duplex) systems. The proposed scheme, termed asymmetry balancing, is targeted towards next-generation cellular wireless systems which are envisaged to have ad hoc and multi-hop capabilities. Asymmetry balancing resolves the detrimental base station (BS)-to-BS interference problem inherent to TDD networks by synchronizing the TDD switching points (SPs) across cells. In order to maintain the flexibility of TDD in serving the asymmetry demands of individual cells, inter-cell relaying is employed. Mobile stations (MSs) in a cell which has a shortage of uplink (UL) resources and spare downlink (DL) resources use free DL resources to off-load UL traffic to cooperating MSs in a neighboring cell using ad hoc communication. In an analogous fashion DL traffic can be balanced. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the asymmetry balancing concept by considering a seven-cell cluster and a single overloaded cell in the center. A mathematical model is developed to quantify the envisaged gains in using asymmetry balancing and is verified via Monte Carlo simulations. It is demonstrated that asymmetry balancing offers great flexibility in UL-DL resource allocation. In addition, results show that a spectral efficiency improvement of more than 100% can be obtained with respect to a case where the TDD SPs are adapted to the cell-specific demands.

The relay based cellular system has been introduced to provide the service to satisfy the user requirement. The main reasons of using relay station are to expand a service coverage and to increase a system throughput with satisfying the service requirement level. This paper proposes a new resource allocation algorithm which supports the users' throughput fairness and service coverage in the Fixed Relay Based Cellular system with OFDMA. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared with the performances of proportional fairness(PF) algorithm. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm increases the number of active users in the service coverage while paying small amount of throughput loss.
Autonomous train is investigated to increase the capacity of railroad, and the reliability of wireless communication plays a critical role in terms of decreasing the inter-train distance. In this paper, we propose a transmission scheme for autonomous train communication in highly congested environment. The proposed scheme, namely distributed uplink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) random access (UORA), applies the triggered uplink access (TUA) and the UORA, introduced in the sixth generation WLAN standard, IEEE 802.11ax, for communication devices on vehicle and platform in a distributed manner. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme efficiently improves the packet transmission success rate in highly congested channel conditions compared to the conventional enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) transmission scheme.

In this paper, we propose a novel energy efficient MAC protocol which is based on orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and exploits the physical characteristic that propagation loss of acoustic wave depends on the distance. In the proposed scheme, sensor nodes are grouped according to the distance to sink node. Then, each group uses a different frequency band. The proposed scheme not only enables all sensor nodes to maintain the signal-to-noise ratio above a certain required level (Accepted Minimum SNR, AMS), but also reduces overall transmission power consumption. In addition, the dynamic sub-channel allocation is employed in order to improve data transmission rate. Simulations show that proposed MAC protocol has better performance in a delay-tolerant underwater acoustic sensor networks.

In OFDMA-based cellular system, inter-cell interference (ICI) reduces system capacity by aggravating receiving performance of the users located in edge of the cell. Therefore, to mitigate ICI is very important issue in cellular system. To deal with ICI problem, fractional frequency reuse (FFR) is introduced. FFR is an interference management technique. It separates each cell into inner cell and outer cell. Then, it allocates whole system bandwidth to inner cell and different frequency partition to each sector of outer cell. By doing this, outer cell users can ignore interferences from adjacent cells. So, the receiving performance of the cell edge users can be fairly increased. However, using FFR technique has a fatal side effect. In order to use different frequency partition among three sectors of outer cell, they can use only a third of the whole system bandwidth. Then, the reduction of available bandwidth reduces the system throughput directly. To solve this problem, we propose a new FFR method that allocates partially overlapped frequency partition to each sector of outer cell. And then, we suggest a proper overlapping ratio for practical cellular system.

In this paper, a joint PHY-MAC layer optimized resource allocation scheme for OFDMA based micro base stations is investigated. We propose cross-layer optimized two-stage resource allocation scheme including cross-layer functional description and control information flow between PHY-MAC layers. The proposed two-stage resource allocation scheme consists of a user grouping stage and a resource allocation stage. In the user grouping stage, users are divided into a macro base station user group and a micro base station user group based on the PHY-MAC layer characteristics of each user. In the resource allocation stage, a scheduling scheme and an allotment of resources are determined. In the proposed scheme, diversity and adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) schemes are exploited as schedulers. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme increases the average cell throughput about 40~80 % compared to the conventional system without micro base stations.
Multiuser communication has been an important research area of underwater acoustic communications and networking. This paper studies the use of adaptive orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) in a downlink scenario, where a central node sends data to multiple distributed nodes simultaneously. In practical implementations, the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) cannot be perfectly known by the central node in time-varying underwater acoustic (UWA) channels, due to the long propagation delays resulting from the low sound speed. In this paper, we explore the CSI feedback for resource allocation. An adaptive power-bit loading algorithm is presented, which assigns subcarriers to different users and allocates power and bits to each subcarrier, aiming to minimize the bit error rate (BER) under power and throughput constraints. Simulation results show considerable performance gains due to adaptive subcarrier allocation and further improvement through power and bit loading, as compared to the non-adaptive interleave subcarrier allocation scheme. In a lake experiment, channel feedback reduction is implemented through subcarrier clustering and uniform quantization. Although the performance gains are not as large as expected, experiment results confirm that adaptive subcarrier allocation schemes based on delayed channel feedback or long term statistics outperform the interleave subcarrier allocation scheme.

In this paper, we analyzed the performance of cyclostationary signal detection scheme for LTE system. We applied the cyclostationary signal detection scheme to the cognitive radio(CR) technology, which improves the usage efficiency of spectrums and shares frequencies, and we detected the signal in the long term evolution(LTE) band. LTE system has been designated as the standard to improve the maximum data rate and provide the low latency in the 3rd generation partnership project(3GPP). In this paper, we generated the LTE signals based on the orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) and analyzed the performance of signal detection in accordance with the segment and threshold of the generated signals. Gaussian channel was used in the simulation and we discussed the future studies to apply the CR to the LTE system.

In this paper, we propose the sub-cell reuse partitioning among relays as an efficient resource reuse scheme in the relay-based OFDMA systems. If the frequency resource is reused among relays aggressively, we can increase the cell throughput. However, the interferences due to the frequency reuse may cause the fairness decrease due to the SINR degradation especially at the edge of RS sub-cells. In this paper, to make the cell throughput and fairness performance improved at the same time, we propose a sub-cell reuse partitioning scheme that divides a relay sub-cell into inner zone for aggressive reuse and outer zone for sparse reuse. The performance of the proposed scheme has been analyzed by computer simulation. We also applied a scheduling algorithm that can work together with the proposed sub-cell reuse partitioning scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve both the throughput and the fairness performances. In particular, when the scheduling is applied for the improvement of fairness, it is shown that the throughput performance can be enhanced more efficiently by the proposed scheme.
