  • Much research has been conducted to describe metrics for UML models by extending OCL that was proposed to define structural constraints. However, metrics descriptions in OCL are complex, so they are very difficult to understand. This paper defines MDL4UML by abstracting the conventional OCL. By abstracting OCL constructs, the MDL4UML can produce simpler descriptions of metrics, which can help metrics designer to understand and describe metrics.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate tissue dissolving capacity, antimicrobial effect of Hydroxyethylidene bisphosphonate (HEBP) interacting with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as conventional endodontic irrigants and to determine tissue dissolving efficacy depended on temperature. Materials and Methods: A total of 80 bovine muscles were randomly distributed into 8 groups (n = 10). After their initial weights determined on a precision scale, the specimens in each group were immersed in the solutions for 5, 10 and 15 min and reweighted at each time period. Agar diffusion test inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis was performed for antimicrobial effect of each endodontic irrigants. Results: The ability to dissolve organic matter was greater in NaOCl group following NaOCl and HEBP mixture. Heated NaOCl ($40^{\circ}C$) and NaOCl/ HEBP mixture was greater tissue dissolving efficacy than room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$). Antimicrobial effect was greater and significant in the following order EDTA > EDTA + 1% NaOCl > $1%\;NaOCl{\geq}1%\;NaOCl$ + HEBP. Conclusion: HEBP as soft chelating agent does not disturb antimicrobial effect and less affected tissue dissolving efficacy as inherent properties of NaOCl. In the heated NaOCl/HEBP mixture analyzed, it dissolved more the organic matter than room temperature.

  • This experiment was focused on determining the potential of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) as fungicide against seed-borne fungi. Effects of NaOCl to control seed-borne fungi were compared to the those of Benlate T in several crop seeds. 1. The effect of NaOCl on disinfection of sesame seeds without imparing germination was highest in the range of 1-2% solution for 10 min. Also, a 30 min immersion of rice seed in 1-2% solution reduced incedence of seed-borne fungi. 2. Alternaria spp. in seeds of radish and chinese cabbage and Colletoricum spp. in pepper were significantly reduced by a 10 min immersion of seeds in 1% NaOCl. 3. The effective control range of NaOCl for seed-borne fungi was much wider than that of Benlate T in sesame seeds. No clear difference between chemicals was found in rice seeds. However, germination of seeds were impaired at 1-2% NaOCl immersion for more than 1 hour.

  • OCL was used in the UML Semantics document to specify the well-formedness rules of the UML metarmodel. UML was extended to apply it to system developments of several fields, for example real-time UML and web applications with UML. In particular the dependability is important in designing and building hard real-time system. Thus OCL is needed to express real-time UML formally and so it must extended. In this paper, we extend OCL to define event-driven real-time OCL to the development of Nrcl simulator.

  • Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) has been demonstrated to be effective against algae that cause red tides. To secure the environmental safety of this chemical for practical use, toxic effects of NaOCl were evaluated in two important aquaculture fishes, flounder and rockfish. At concentrations above 2.5 and 5 ppm for 1 hr, mortality occurred in flounder and rockfish, respectively. Flounder, however, did not die at 2 ppm up to an 8 hr exposure, nor did lipid peroxide level change at the same concentration in 1 hr. Plasma glucose level significantly increased in 1 hr with more than 2 ppm exposure. The results indicate that NaOCl may not induce persistent severe toxicity in flounder and rockfish at the algicidal concentration, 0.5 ppm.

  • The new molybdenum(Ⅴ)-triethylenetetraamine complexes such as Trien$H_4(MoOCl_5)_2,\;(MoOCl_3)_2$(trien), and$Mo_2O_4Cl_2$ (trien) have been prepared, and the chemical, magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the complexes have been investigated. Trien$H_4(MoOCl_5)_2has been isolated as green crystal and from this salt the nonelectrolytic and paramagnetic complexes,$(MoOCl_3)_2$ (trien) have been prepared by evolution of hydrogen chloride in anhydrous ethanol. Hydrolysis of triethylenetetraammonium oxopentachloromolybdate(V) yielded the nonelectrolytic and dismagnetic complex, $Mo_2O_4Cl_2$(trien) as brown solid.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of sodium ascorbate on microtensile bond strengths of total-etching adhesive system to pulp chamber dentin treated with NaOCl. Pulp chambers of extracted human non-caries permanent molars were treated as follows: group 1, with 0.9% NaCl; group 2, with 5.25% NaOCl; group 3, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 1min; group 4, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 1 min and 10ml of water; group 5, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 5 min; group 6, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 5 min and 10ml of water; group 7, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 10 min; group 8, with 5.25% NaOCl and 10% sodium ascorbate for 10 min and 10ml of water. Treated specimens were dried, bonded with a total-etching adhesive system (Single bond), restored with a composite resin(Z250) and kept for 24h at 100% humidity to measure the microtensile bond strength. NaOCl-treated group (group 2) demonstrated significantly lower strength than the other groups. No significant difference in microtensile bond strengths was found between NaCl-treated group (group 1) and sodium ascorbatetreated groups (group 3-8). The results of this study indicated that dentin treated with NaOCl reduced the microtensile bond strength of Single bond. Application of 10% sodium ascorbate restored the bond strength of Single bond on NaOCl-treated dentin. Application time of sodium ascorbate did not have a significant effect.

  • Recent studies indicate that reactive oxygen species (ROS) can act as modulators of neuronal activity, and are critically involved in persistent pain primarily through spinal mechanisms. In this study, we investigated the effects of NaOCl, a ROS donor, on neuronal excitability and the intracellular calcium concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) in spinal substantia gelatinosa (SG) neurons. In current clamp conditions, the application of NaOCl caused a membrane depolarization, which was inhibited by pretreatment with phenyl-N-tert-buthylnitrone (PBN), a ROS scavenger. The NaOCl-induced depolarization was not blocked however by pretreatment with dithiothreitol, a sulfhydryl-reducing agent. Confocal scanning laser microscopy was used to confirm whether NaOCl increases the intracellular ROS level. ROS-induced fluorescence intensity was found to be increased during perfusion of NaOCl after the loading of 2',7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate ($H_2DCF$-DA). NaOCl-induced depolarization was not blocked by pretreatment with external $Ca^{2+}$ free solution or by the addition of nifedifine. However, when slices were pretreated with the $Ca^{2+}$ ATPase inhibitor thapsigargin, NaOCl failed to induce membrane depolarization. In a calcium imaging technique using the $Ca^{2+}$-sensitive fluorescence dye fura-2, the $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ was found to be increased by NaOCl. These results indicate that NaOCl activates the excitability of SG neurons via the modulation of the intracellular calcium concentration, and suggest that ROS induces nociception through a central sensitization.

  • Objectives: Phytic acid (IP6), a naturally occurring agent, has been previously reported as a potential alternative to ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). However, its effect on adhesion to sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)-treated dentin and its interactions with NaOCl have not been previously reported. Thus, in this study, the effects of IP6 on resin adhesion to NaOCl-treated dentin and the failure mode were investigated and the interactions between the used agents were analyzed. Materials and Methods: Micro-tensile bond strength (µTBS) testing was performed until failure on dentin treated with either distilled water (control), 5% NaOCl, or 5% NaOCl followed with chelators: 17% EDTA for 1 minute or 1% IP6 for 30 seconds or 1 minute. The failed specimens were assessed under a scanning electron microscope. The reaction of NaOCl with EDTA or IP6 was analyzed in terms of temperature, pH, effervescence, and chlorine odor, and the effects of the resulting mixtures on the color of a stained paper were recorded. Results: The µTBS values of the control and NaOCl with chelator groups were not significantly different, but were all significantly higher than that of the group treated with NaOCl only. In the failure analysis, a distinctive feature was the presence of resin tags in samples conditioned with IP6 after treatment with NaOCl. The reaction of 1% IP6 with 5% NaOCl was less aggressive than the reaction of the latter with 17% EDTA. Conclusions: IP6 reversed the adverse effects of NaOCl on resin-dentin adhesion without the chlorine-depleting effect of EDTA.
