  • The use of high tensile steel plates is increasing in the fabrication of ship and offshore structures. The main portion of ship structure is usually composed of stiffened plates. In these structures, plate buckling is one of the most important design criteria and buckling load may usually be obtained as an eigenvalue solution of the governing equations for the plate. To use the high tensile steel plate effectively, its thickness may become thin so that the occurrence of buckling is inevitable and design allowing plate buckling may be necessary. When the panel elastic buckling is allowed, it is necessary to get precise understandings about the post-buckling behaviour of thin plates. It is well known that a thin flat plate undergoes secondary buckling after initial buckling took place and the deflection of the initial buckling mode was developed. From this point of view, this paper discusses the post-buckling behaviour of thin plates under thrust including the secondary buckling phenomenon. Series of elastic large deflection analyses were performed on rectangular plates with aspect ratio 3.6 using the analytical method and the FEM.

  • High Speed Rail Train Control System consists of CTC, IXL and ATC. IXL and ATC perform train control and command via interchanging relevant information between a signal room and CTC. However, it is proved that IXL and ATC are attributed to train delay error since those systems are highly sensitive to trackside conditions. Especially, network error on IXL blocks transmitting signal information to adjacent signal room so that its effects give rise to system overall problems. In order to figure out the measures for which minimizing the occurrence rate of train delay error due to HSR TCS, This paper is performed analysis on communication network structure, the length of SSI network roof and SSI-TFM distance by examining and analyzing the error cases related to IXL in a network aspect.

  • Bilateral coronoid hyperplasia causes painless progressive trismus, resulting from coronoid process impingement on the posterior aspect of the zygomatic bone. The etiology of coronoid hyperplasia is unclear, with various theories proposed. An endocrine stimulus, increased temporalis activity, trauma, genetic inheritance and familial occurrence have all been proposed, but no substantive evidence exists to support any of these hypotheses. Multiplanar reformatting of axial scans and 3-dimensional reconstruction permit precise reproduction of the shape and size of the coronoid and malar structures, and relationships of all structures of the temporal and infratemporal fossae. This case shows remarkably increased mouth opening by coronoidectomy in a patient who complained of trismus due to hyperplasia of coronoid process.

  • Most of studies on aircraft accidents have been conducted mainly for fixed-wing aircraft, while the studies on helicopter accidents have been done less even though the helicopter accidents occurred quite more than those of the fixed-wing. There are lots of differences between helicopter and fixed-wing accidents, in aspect of causes and occurrence of accidents as well as aerodynamics and operation. In Korea, helicopter accidents have occurred 2 or 3 times annually since 2000, while the number of fixed-wing aircraft accidents has been reduced considerably. The goal of this study is to solve the present safety problems in helicopter accidents by reviewing the characteristics of past accidents and comparing differences between two types of aircraft.

  • Landslide is one of the natural hazards, triggered by rainfall or earthquake and it leads to damage and loss of properties and lives especially in hilly and mountainous regions. Inventory maps of the area is of much importance in order to understand the landslide phenomena in detail, conduct further studies on landslide, prepare susceptibility map and minimize risk. Inventory maps of landslides can be constructed by several methods, using multiple images through visual interpretation, using algorithms in multi-spectral or SAR images or verification from field investigation. The possible methods were explored for Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal, which was struck by massive earthquake on 2015 and landslide inventory was prepared. The inventory was analyzed for its frequency over elevation, slope aspect and dominant soil classes and also the information value for their occurrence probability.

  • Statistical process control(SPC) and engineering process control(EPC) are two complementary strategies for quality improvement. An integrated process control(IPC) can use EPC to reduce the effect of predictable quality variations and SPC to monitor the process for detection of special causes. In this paper we assume an IMA(1,1) model as a disturbance process and an occurrence of a level shift in the process, and we consider the economic performance for applying an EWMA chart to monitor MMSE-controlled processes. The numerical results suggest that the IPC scheme in an IMA(1,1) disturbance model does not give additional advantages in the economic aspect.

  • Rayleigh-Benard-Marangoni (RBM) convection have been artificially made for application of various engineering fields. For a relatively larger circular container, natural convection experiments were carried out to reveal and show the flow characteristics with engine oil (SAE30) using IR camera. IR camera has captured the temperature distribution on the free surface. From these experiments, it was confirmed that it was possible to quantitatively analyze the occurrence characteristics of RBM flow clearly from the thermal images taken with IR camera. As the aspect ratio increased, both the number of internal and external cavities increased. And found that the criteria of RBM flow generation proposed through previous experiments performed for small-sized containers are also very effective with the results on larger circular container.

  • The first occurrence of the tomato russet mite, Aculops lycopersici Massee was in mid-late April, and the maximum occurrence was in mid-late June in 2013 and 2014. However, in 2015, the density of tomato russet mites increased in July. This pattern is thought to be attributed to temperature fluctuations, in which, low temperatures at night promoted their reproduction and long periods of high temperatures during the day promoted their dispersion. Comparison of the use of 11 Eco-friendly organic insecticides (EOIs) showed that, the mortality rates after application of 0.6% matrin(EOIMa) and 10% clove oil (EOICo) were 92.1% and 95.1%, respectively, when administered at 500-fold diluted concentrations. At 1,000-fold and 2,000-fold diluted concentrations, the mortality rates of EOIMa were 90.4% and 88.2%, respectively. In a field test, the mortality rates of EOIMa at the 1,000-fold diluted concentration and of EOICo at the 500-fold diluted concentration were 91.5% and 93.9%, respectively. In conclusion, theses two EOIs are sufficient to replace pesticides, and EOIMa seems to be particularly useful as a prophylactic given that it induced a mortality rate of 88.2% at a 2,000-fold diluted concentration.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of the disaster occurrence and disaster-prone zones on the 85 forest roads in the Jeollabuk-do area by referring to their forest environment factors. The on-site survey reveal the types of forest road disasters as follows: erosions of cutting slopes 54.1%, erosions of the filling slope 35.3%, collapses of cutting slopes with filling slope 9.4%, and erosions of road surface 1.1%. Disasters most frequently occurred in the vertical location (the hillside) and the horizontal location (the slope), and the forest factors affecting the road disasters were degree of cutting slopes in $31^{\circ}{\sim}40^{\circ}$, degree of filling slopes in $21^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$, and the soil texture of SiL. The most significant factors on the most frequent occurrence of forest road disasters were forest type of coniferous, slope aspect northeast, forest age of plantation and felling area, and rainfall in 1601~1700. An analysis of the occurrence of the forest road disasters in the Jeollabuk-do area showed a positive correlative relationship with the following factors of the forest environment within a 1% error: degree of cutting slope in $31^{\circ}{\sim}40^{\circ}$, annual accumulation rainfall in 1601~1700. and showed a positive correlative relationship with the following factors of the forest environment within a 5% error: horizontal location of valley, forest type of coniferous, length of slope more than 20 m, forest age of plantation and felling area, soil texture of SiL.

  • The fine structure of spermatozoa of Pungtungia herzi was examined with scanning and transmission electron microscopies. The spermatozoa of p. herzi are approximately 37.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in length and a relatively simple cell with a spherical nucleus, a short midpiece and a tail. The acrosome is not present as in most teleost fishes. The ultrastructure of spermatozoa represents typical characteristics of cyprinid spermatozoa including the lateral insertion of flagellum, the organization of centriolar complex in shallow nuclear fossa, and the occurrence and asymmetrical arrangement of mitochondria. In the nuclear envelope and mitochondrion, however there were some morphological differences for their ultrastructure. The nuclear envelope is severely undulated and the shallow nuclear fossa contains two centrioles which are at the angle of some 130$^{\circ}$ each other. The most significant feature can be observed with the mitochondrion; five or more mitochondria, which are shown in primary spermatocyte, fuse to form a single one in the mature spermatozoon. The mitochondrial aspect is different from that of other cyprinid spermatozoa, where their mitochondria have a conventional aspect and never fuse to form a mitochondrial derivative. In terms of sperm evolution the fused mitochondria are regarded as the apomorphic character in comparison with the separate mitochondria. The single mitochondrion is not reported in cyprinid spermatozoon except the case of Rhodeus.
