The microleakage of direct-access Class 2 restorations was evaluated. Cavities were prepared at mesial and distal proximal enamel surfaces of 20 extracted human molars through buccal window. Prepared cavities were filled with Ketac-Fil, Ketac-Silver, and Fuji II LC, following manufacturer's instructions. 4 specimens of each restorations were made through sectioning 1/4 of bucco-lingual length mesio-distally after thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ and imerging 0.5% basic-fuchsin dye solution. Leakage at both occlusal and gingival margin of each specimen was scored 0 to 3 with stereomicroscope. The results were as follows: 1. At occlusal margin, leakage in Ketac-Fil group was more than Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group (ANOVA p<0.05) and there was no significant difference between Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group(p>0.05), and at gingival margin, there was no significant difference amang materials (p>0.05). 2. Occlusal margin leaked more than gingival margin in Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group (t-test p<0.05). 3. Leakage was different according to bucco-lingual location in Ketac-Fil and Fuji II LC group, and lingaul specimen exhibited more leakage(ANOVA p<0.05).
he purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the IPS Empress ceramic crown with 1.0mm width rounded shoulder, which is usually recommended in all ceramic crown, and 0.5mm width chamfer finish lines on the maxillary first premolar. 30 sound maxillary first premolars were selected and then storaged in 5% NaOCl and saline. 15 teeth were performed preparation for each group(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer). After 30 stone dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement(Bistite resin cement, Tokuyama Soda Co. LTD., Japan) on the natural teeth. The cemented crowns were mounted on the positioning jig and the universal testing machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany)was used to measure the fracture strength, with stress loading on the occlusal surface between buccal and lingual cusp. And also, three-dimensional finite element model was used to measure the stress distribution with two types of the finish lines(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer) and two loading conditions(both buccal and lingual cusp inclination, lingual cusp inclination only). The result of the this study were as follows. In the fracture resistance experiment according to the finish line, the mean fracture strength of rounded shoulder(842N) showed higher value than that of the chamfer(590N) (p<0.05). In the three dimensional finite element analysis of all ceramic crown, metal die and natural teeth model did not show any differences in stress distribution between finish lines. Generally, when force was loaded on the occlusal inclination of buccal and lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the loading point and the central groove of occlusal surface. When force was loaded only on the occlusal inclination of lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the lingual finish line and loading point.
The purpose of this study was to obtain the norm of the crown shape (tip, torque, in/out) and arch form, and to provide basic data for fabricating straight wire bracket and ideal arch wire for Korean. 100 subjects aged from 17 to 26 (50 females, 50 males) were selected with a normal occlusion. By measuring the size, angulation, inclination, arch width, facial prominance of the teeth and the molar offset, the following results were obtained. 1. Average, standard deviation, minimum, maximum of each measuring item for each teeth were obtained. 2. Intermolar width (${\underline{6}}$ to ${\underline{6}}$) of upper arch before occlusal surface cutting and intermolar width of upper arch (${\underline{6}}$ to ${\underline{6}}$, ${\underline{7}}$ to ${\underline{7}}$) after occlusal surface cutting showed statistical difference. There was no difference between sexes in any other measuring items. 3. Arch form and specification of straight wire bracket for Korean who have normal occlusion was obtained.
The first function of occlusion is mastication. Therefore the functional restoration of occlusal surface is very important. The restoration of occlusal surface is three method as wax bite technique, F.G.P. technique, cone technique. Many dental technician is using compound method. I am using compound method of wax bite technique and cone technique. I have knew common point on each teeth during I have waxing up wax pattern. So I studied on the design waxup technique for mandible molar occlusion. The results of the study were as follows; 1. The dam wax up method can restore axial contour of teeth very easy and make short working time of wax pattern. 2. The height of dam must be same with cusp of adjacent teeth. 3. Automatically the contour of tooth is appeared if the contour of dam is relationship with cuspid line of adjacent teeth. 4. The height of contour of buccal, lingual surface is formed natural curve to add fluid wax by gravitation. 5. The development groove of mandible first premolar is appeared V form. 6. The development groove of mandible second premolar is appeared Y form. 7, The development groove of mandible first molar is appeared M form. 8. The development groove of mandible second molar is W form. 9. The embrasure is formed to carve around contact point area as round convex. It affects to axial form of tooth. 10. The buccal, lingual groove of molar is formed parallel with direction of teeth arrangement.
The dens evaginatus was a developmental variation which has arisen as a result of an evagination of inner enamel epithelium into the enamel organ. It has been given various. names by authors and was thought to be confined to Mongolian race. This study was performed to observe the incidence of dens evaginatus, and its ill-effects on the teeth and surrounding structures in 6356 Korean students and 10227 Korean adults. In plaster model, analysis was performed in accordance with forms and location of dens evaginatus on the. occlusal surface in the premolars. The pathologic changes caused by dens evaginatus were observed in paralleling periapical radiograms The results were as follows: 1. The prevalence of dens evaginatus in the student's group was 2.6%, and showed no sex predilection in the occurrence of evaginated teeth. 2. The sequence of dens evaginatus was in order of mandibular 2nd premolar, mandibular 1st premolar, maxillary 2nd premolar, and maxillary 1st premolar, respectively. 3. Of the cases with dens evaginatus, 73.5 % occured bilaterally. 4. The nipple form was the most frequent in respect of elevation of tubercle on the, occlusal surface. 5. In the base form of the tubercle, the occurrence of grooved form was the highest. 6. In the maxilla, those cases which the tubercle arose from the lingual ridge of the buccal cusp were most predominant. And in the mandible, those cases which the tubercle arose from the center of the occlusal surface were the most frequent. 7. The pulpal and periapical complications were shown in 24.4% of evaginated teeth in. periapical radiogram.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to analyze the shapes of lingual polished surfaces in lower complete dentures formed by polished surface impressions and to provide reference data for use when manufacturing edentulous trays and lower complete dentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty-six patients with mandibular edentulism were studied. After lower wax dentures were fabricated, wax was removed from the lingual side of the wax denture and a lingual polished surface impression was obtained with tissue conditioner. The definitive denture was scanned with a three-dimensional scanner, and scanned images were obtained. At the cross-sections of the lingual frenum, lateral incisors, first premolars, first molars, and anterior border of the retromolar pads, three points were marked and eight measurements were taken. The Kruskal-Wallis test and a post hoc analysis with the Mann-Whitney test were performed. RESULTS. Each patient showed similar values for the same areas on the left and right sides without a statistically significant difference. The height of the contour of the lingual polished surface at the lingual frenum was halfway between the occlusal plane and lingual border, it moved gradually in a downward direction. The angle from the occlusal plane to the height of the contour of the lingual polished surface was increased as it progressed from the lingual frenum towards the retromolar pads. CONCLUSION. The shape of the mandibular lingual polished surface was convex at the lingual frenum, lateral incisors and gradually flattened towards the first molars and retromolar pads.
The purpose of this study was compare the fracture strength of the IPS Empress ceramic crown according to the occlusal depth (1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm) and axial inclination ($4^{\circ},\;8^{\circ},\;12^{\circ}$) of the lower second premolar. After 10 metal dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement. The cemented crowns were mounted on the testing jig with inclination of 30 degrees and the universal testing machine was used to measure the fracture strength. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The fracture strength of the ceramic crown with 2.5mm depth and $12^{\circ}$ inclination was the highest (1284 N). Crowns of 1.5mm depth and $8^{\circ}$ inclination had the lowest strength (951 N). 2. There were no significant differences in the fracture strength by axial inclination of the same occlusal depth group. 3. Most fracture lines began at the loading area and extended through proximal surface perpendicular to the margin, irrespective of occlusal depth.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the occlusal interference on the activity of anterior temporal and masseter muscles during maximal biting. In seven subjects, cast hard gold cap providing new occlusal surface approximately 0.5mm above its occlusal level was cemented on the mandibular right first molar during aquired experimental period. EMG recordings were taken bilaterally during one second hardest possible clenching four times. This procedure was done not only before, immediately after, 48 hours after and one week after cementation of interfering crown but also immediately after and one week after removal of occlusal interfering crown. The results were as follows : 1. Immediately after cementation of interfering crown, the activity was significantly decreased in all muscles studied. 2. One week after cementaion of interfering crown, the lowest muscle activity was recorded. But clinical sign and symptoms were significantly subsided. 3. Immediately after removal of interfering crown, the activity was increased in all muscles studied. 4. One week after removal of interfering crown, the activity of masseter muscles was increased to the level of before cementation of interfering crown. 5. There was no significant activity difference between right and left in the muscle studied. 6. Masseter muscle activity showed significant change than anterior temporalis with the unilateral mandibular posterior tooth interference.
Objective: The aims of this study were to use a 3-dimensional (3D) system to compare molar relationship assessments performed from the buccal and lingual aspects, and to measure differences in occlusal contact areas between Class II and Class I molar relationships. Methods: Study casts (232 pairs from 232 subjects, yielding a total of 380 sides) were evaluated from both the buccal and lingual aspects, so that molar relationships could be classified according to the scheme devised by Liu and Melsen. Occlusal contact areas were quantified using 3D digital models, which were generated through surface scanning of the study casts. Results: A cusp-to-central fossa relationship was observed from the lingual aspect in the majority of cases classified from the buccal aspect as Class I (89.6%) or mild Class II (86.7%). However, severe Class II cases had lingual cusp-to-mesial triangular fossa or marginal ridge relationships. Mean occlusal contact areas were similar in the Class I and mild Class II groups, while the severe Class II group had significantly lower values than either of the other 2 groups (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Buccal and lingual assessments of molar relationships were not always consistent. Occlusal contact areas were lowest for the Class II-severe group, which seems to have the worst molar relationships - especially as seen from the lingual aspect.
