  • In this paper, we propose a ground plane detection algorithm, using a new image processing method (IPD). To extract the ground plane from the color image acquired by monocular camera, we use a new identical pixel detection method (IPD) and an edge detection method. This IPD method decides whether the pixel is identical with the ground plane pixel or not. The IPD method needs the reference area and its performance depends on the reference area size. So we propose the reference area auto-expanding algorithm in accordance with situation. And we evaluated the proposed algorithm by the experiments in the various environments. From the experiments results, we know that the proposed algorithm is efficient in the real indoor environment.

  • This study proposes the method to make a map of moving environment area and passed area by sensor using for recognizing environment or avoiding obstacle. We win develop an efficient algorithm to use sensors and get the data by the user friendly system. Through this system, we win study the way to know of the driving environment of moving robot on the long distance point. To this, we use only one ultra-sonic sensor with a servo motor which rotates 180 degree and loads an ultra-sonic sensor. A sensor can measure 1m${\sim}$8m range and a servo motor can distinguish 15 degree by 12 divide of 180 degree. By this feature of operating system, the robot which has these sensor module detects around of area and moves another point. In this way, users gather the data of detecting distance and change the data to X-Y coordinates. And users derive a map from these accumulate data.

  • Optimal trajectory for a robot manipulator minimizing actuator torques or energy consumption in a fixed traveling time is obtained in the presence of obstacles. All joint displacements are represented in finite terms of Fourier cosine series and the coefficients of the series are obtained optimally by nonlinear programming. Thus, the geometric path need not be prespecified and the full dynamic model is employed. To avoid the obstacles, the concept of penalty area is newly introduced and this penalty area is included in the performance index with an appropriate weighting coefficient. This optimal trajectory will be useful as a geometric path in the minimum-time trajectory planning problem.

  • In semiconductor industry, it is expected that plasma process which use 450 mm source will be used at next generation. However, main obstacle of the large area plasma source is plasma uniformity from it. When electrode is enlarged, field difference between center area and side area reduces the plasma uniformity [1-3]. Therefore we investigate multi-electrode which diminish this field difference. We designed two multi-electrode models. One has two segments and the other has five segments. Each multi-electrode model is connected with two power generator and two matchers. One generator and one matcher is connected with center electrode part. The other one generator and the other one matcher is connected with side electrode part. The ion density is measured at 29 points by using floating harmonic method [4-6]. After measuring the data of each multi-electrode model, we discuss the difference of profile between two models' data.

  • Many intelligent robots have to be given environmental information to perform tasks. In this paper an intelligent robot, that is, a cleaning robot used a sensor fusing method of two sensors: LRF and StarGazer, and then was able to obtain the information. Throughout wall following using laser displacement sensor, LRF, the working area is built during the robot turn one cycle around the area. After the process of wall following, a path planning which is able to execute the work effectively is established using flow network algorithm. This paper describes an algorithm for minimal turning complete coverage path planning for intelligent robots. This algorithm divides the whole working area by cellular decomposition, and then provides the path planning among the cells employing flow networks. It also provides specific path planning inside each cell guaranteeing the minimal turning of the robots. The proposed algorithm is applied to two different working areas, and verified that it is an optimal path planning method.

  • Purpose: This research investigated falls due to obstacles that occur among elderly people by assessing changes in the values of plantar foot force, peak force, and plantar foot pressure in elderly subjects while they were stepping over obstacles of different heights. Methods: The subjects were 20 elderly people aged 70-80 years; Pressure was measured on flat ground(0 cm), and after installing obstacles of 8 cm and 12 cm using the F-scan system, which is a resistance-type pressure sensor. A one-way analysis of variance was performed to compare pressure on each part of the foot according to various heights after collecting data using the Tekscan program. The least significant difference test was used for the post-hoc analysis, A p-value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The force value for the toe area (parts 1, and 2) and contact pressure increased significantly with the 12 cm obstacle (p<0.05). The peak force value and the peak contact pressure for part 1 increased significantly with the 12 cm obstacle (p<0.05). Conclusion: Larger changes appeared in the functions and structure of the foot while subjects walked over obstacles of different heights compared to flatland walking. This result suggests that people have safety strategies to prevent falls, and that there is a need for a more realistic approach through practice to overcome obstacles of various heights to prevent falls.

  • Self-assembled nanostructures of block copolymer thin films have gathered significant attention due to their potential applications as templates for nanofabrication. However the lack of a robust strategy to control the structure formation in thin film geometries has been considered a major obstacle for the practical application. In this presentation 'epitaxial self-assembly' will be introduced as a successful strategy to control the self-assembled nanostructure of block copolymer. Chemically patterned surfaces prepared by advanced lithographic techniques successfully registered nanodomains in block copolymer thin film without any single defect over an arbitrarily large area.

  • This paper describes a method of producing maps of an indoor environment with an autonomous mobile robot equipped with sonar array. This method uses the certainty grid suitable for accommodation of inaccurate sensor data and real-time navigation. Each grid contains a certainty vale that indicates the measure of confidence that an obstacle exists within th grid area. The scheduled firing method is used to eliminate the crosstalk between ultrasonic sensors. The effectiveness of the method is verified by a series of experiments.

  • The mobile robots to rescue a life in a disaster area and to explore planets demand high mobility as well as recognition of the environment. To avoid unknown obstacles exactly in unknown environment, accurate sensing is required. This paper proposes a sensor fusion to recognize unknown obstacles accurately by using low-cost sensors. Ultrasonic sensors and infrared sensors are used in this paper to avoid obstacles. If only one of these sensors is used alone, it is not useful fer the mobile robots to complete their tasks in the real world since the surrounding environment in the real world is complex and composed of many kinds of materials. So infrared sensor may not recognize transparent or reflective obstacles and ultrasonic sensor may not recognize narrow obstacles, far example, columns of small diameter. Therefore, I selected six ultrasonic sensors and five infrared sensors to detect obstacles. Then, I fused ultrasonic sensors with infrared sensors in order that both advantages and disadvantages of each sensor are utilized together. In fusing sensors, fuzzy algorithm is used to cope with the uncertainties of each sensor. TAMRY which is terrain-adaptive mobile robot is used as the mobile robot for experiments.
