The enhanced resource-allocating network(ERAN) that adaptively generates hidden units of radial basis function(RBF) network for systems modeling has been proposed. The ERAN is an improved version of the resource-allocating network(RAN) that allocates new hidden units based on the novelty of observation data. The learning process of the ERAN involves allocation of new hidden units and adjusting the network parameters. The network starts with no hidden units. As observation data are received, the network adds a hidden units only if the three network growth criteria are satisfied. The network parameters are adjusted by the LMS algorithm. The performance of the ERAN is compared with the RAN for nonlinear static systems modeling problem with sequential and random learning. For two simulations, the ERAN has been shown to realize RBF networks with better accuracy with fewer hidden units.

This paper proposes the alternative observer and controller design scheme based on T-S fuzzy model. Nonlinear systems are represented by fuzzy models since fuzzy logic systems are universal approximators. In order to estimate the unmeasurable states of a given unknown nonlinear system, T-S fuzzy modeling method is applied to get the dynamics of an observation system. T-S fuzzy system uses the linear combination of the input state variables and the modeling applications of them to various kinds of nonlinear systems can be found. The proposed indirect adaptive fuzzy observer based on T-S fuzzy model can cope with not only unknown states but also unknown parameters. The proposed controller is based on a simple output feedback method. Therefore, it solves the singularity problem, without any additional algorithm, which occurs in the inverse dynamics based on the feedback linearization method. The adaptive fuzzy scheme estimates the parameters and the feedback gain comprising the fuzzy model representing the observation system. In the process of deriving adaptive law, the Lyapunov theory and Lipchitz condition are used. To show the performance of the proposed observer and controller, they are applied to an inverted pendulum on a cart.

The objective of this paper is to simulate the dynamic behavior of a floating structure model, using image processing and close-range photogrammetry, instead of the contact sensors. Previously, the movement of structure was presented through the exterior orientation estimation of a single camera by space resection. The inverse resection yields the 6 orientation parameters of the floating structure, with respect to the camera coordinate system. The single camera solution is of interest in applications characterized by restriction in term of costs, unfavorable observation conditions, or synchronization demands when using multiple cameras. This article discusses the theoretical determinations of camera exterior orientation based on Direct Linear Transformation and photogrammetric resection using least squares adjustment. The proposed method was used to monitor the motion of a floating model. The results of six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) by inverse resection show that the appropriate initial values by DLT can be effectually applied in least squares adjustment, to obtain the precision of exterior orientation parameters. Additionally, a comparison between the close-range photogrammetry and total station results was feasibly verified. Therefore, the proposed method can be considered as an efficient solution to simulating the movement of floating structure.
The subject basin of the research was the basin of Yeongcheon Dam located in the upper reaches of the Kumho River. The parameters of the model were derived from the results of abstracting topological properties out of rainfall-runoff observation data about heavy rains and Digital Elevation Modeling(DEM) materials. This research aimed at suggesting the applicability of the CELLMOD Model, a distribution-type model, in interpreting runoff based on the topological properties of a river basin, by carrying out runoff interpretation far heavy rains using the model. To examine the applicability of the model, the calculated peaking characteristics in the hydrograph was analyzed in comparison with observed values and interpretation results by the Clark Model. According to the result of analysis using the CELLMOD Model proposed in the present research for interpreting the rainfall-runoff process, the model reduced the physical uncertainty in the rainfall-runoff process, and consequently, generated improved results in forecasting river runoff. Therefore it was concluded that the algorithm is appropriate for interpreting rainfall-runoff in river basins. However, to enhance accuracy in interpreting rainfall-runoff it is necessary to supplement heavy rain patterns in subject basins and to subdivide a basin into minor basins for analysis. In addition, it is necessary to apply the model to basins that have sufficient observation data, and to identify the correlation between model parameters and the basin characteristics(channel characteristics).

This study is carried out the investigation of nonlinear characteristics of the ocean based on the field wave observation data acquired the western sea area in Jeju island during one year. It is aimed to offer the fundamental data for Freak wave forecasting in real sea. For this, the nonlinearity parameters of ocean waves, which are Skewness, Atiltness, Kurtosis and Spectrum band width parameter, are introduced, and the parameters are compared and discussed with some characteristic wave components, ie, significant wave height, maximum wave height, and so on.

Crop models depend on a large number of input parameters including the cultivar parameters that represent the genetic characteristics of a given cultivar. The cultivar parameters have been estimated using high quality data for crop growth, which require considerable costs and efforts. The objective of this study was to examine the feasibility of using low quality data for the parameter estimation. In the present study, the cultivar parameters for cv. Shindongjin were estimated using the data obtained from the report of new cultivars development and research from 2005 to 2016. The root mean square errors (RMSE) of the heading dates were less than 3 days when the parameters associated with phenology were estimated. In contrast, the coefficient of determination for yield tended to be less than 0.1. The large errors incurred by the fact that no growth data collected over a season was used for parameter estimation. This suggests that detailed observation data needs to be prepared for parameter calibration, which would be aided by remote sensing approaches. The occurrence of natural disasters during a growing season has to be considered because crop models cannot take into account the effects of those events. Still, our results provide a reasonable range for the parameters, which could be used to set the boundary of a given parameter for cultivars similar to cv. Shindongjin in further studies.
In this paper. various tow parameters such as equivalent tow thickness, amplitude of longitudinal tow and tow intervals were investigated and compared with each other by using microscopic observation to find out the exact deformation patterns between both directions of the fabric structure(Longitudinal and Transverse Directions). And those observation results were compared with bias extension. biaxial tests results with dry fabric which has the same tow structure as the draped helmet materials and also compared with prepreg specimen which is cured by autoclave moulding without vacuum and pressure condition. Specimens for the observation were taken from draped helmet which is made of fabric composite(Five Harness Satin Weave). From the observation results, it was found that there are different deformation pattern between tow directions and effect of geometric condition on the deformation of the fabric materials during draping process was verified.

A modulation transfer function(MTF) tree is established to estimate the overall MTF of an observation satellite and to analyze the image performance. Basic MTF models relevant to each MTF tree component are represented as mathematical relationship between optics-structural dynamics, thermal deformation, attitude and dynamic characteristics of a satellite and the effects due to the space environment. The Basic MTF models consist of diffraction limited MTF with central obscuration, aberration, defocus, line-of-sight(LOS) jitter, linear motion, detector integration, and so forth. Performance estimation is demonstrated for a virtual earth-observation satellite in order to validate the constructed modeling method. The proposed models enable the system engineers to calculate the overall system MTF and to determine the crucial design parameters that affect the image performance in the conceptual design phase of an observation satellite.

In this paper, the conceptual design procedure and results of Earth observation satellite through Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) are described. The conceptual design equations for major parameters are developed based on the established database of Earth observation satellite so far. The MDO conceptual design tool for Earth observation satellite was developed by applying the Collaborative Optimization (CO) architecture amongst several MDO architecture techniques available today. The objective for this research was set to minimize the total mass of satellite as well as satisfy all design constraints by utilizing the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm. Eventually the effectiveness of MDO conceptual design tool was verified through proposing a comparison between the conceptual design results with MDO applied and the design specification of ASNARO-1 & IKONOS-2 Earth observation satellite.
This study evaluated the effect of combined rainfall observation of using rain gauge and rain radar. The effect of combined observations is to be evaluated by considering the decrease of measurement error due to combined use of design orthogonal observation methods. As an example, this study evaluated the rain gauge network of the Keum river basin, and showed how the density of rain gauges could be decreased by combining the radar observation. This study applied the researches on sampling error by North and Nakamoto(1989), Yoo et al. (1996) and Yoo (1997), also the simple NFD model for representing the rainfall field. The model parameters were decided using the rainfall characteristics (correlation time and length) estimated using the data collected in the Keum River Basin by 28 rain gauges and the operation rule of radar was assumed arbitrarily. This study considered the rain gauge density criteria provided by WMO(1994) and the rain gauge density installed in the Keum river basin to decrease the rain gauge density under the condition of introducing the radar.
