  • A number of attempts to develop methods for measuring software effort have been focused on the area of software engineering and many models have also been suggested to estimate the effort of software projects. Almost all current models use algorithmic or statistical mechanisms, but the existing algorithmic effort estimation models have failed to produce accurate estimates. Furthermore, they are unable to reflect the rapidly changing technical environment of software development such as module reuse, 4GL, CASE tool, etc. In addition, these models do not consider the paradigm shift of software engineering and information systems(i.e., Object Oriented system, Client-Server architecture, Internet/Intranet based system etc.). Thus, a new approach to software effort estimation is needed. After reviewing and analyzing the problems of the current estimation models, we have developed a model and a system architecture that will improve estimation performance. In this paper, we have adopted a neural network model to overcome some drawbacks and to increase estimation performance. We will also address the efficient system architecture and estimation procedure by a similar case-based approach and finally suggest the heuristic search method to find the best estimate of target project through empirical experiments. According to our experiment with the optimally parsimonious neural network model the mean error rate was significantly reduced to 14.3%.

  • Framework is the set of interrelated classes, constructing reusable design in specific domain or set of abstracted classes, and defines common architecture among applications included in domain. Developers can reuse not only class code but also wide range of knowledge on domain by reusing framework. In this papers, we present COM(Component-Oriented Methodology) for the reuse of framework, and develop construction environment for framework and domain development. That is, domain is analyzed by input of domain knowledge on real world to create software based on component, and hotspot is identified through analyzed information, and redesigned(refactoring) by putting additional information on users and developers. After that, I will create domain framework and application framework depending on domain. In this Component-oriented methodology, information is searched, understood and extracted or composite through component-pattern library storage internally. Then this information is classified into the information on component and pattern respectively, and used as additional information in redesigning. With this, developer can obtain reusability, easiness and portability by constructing infrastructure environment that allow to register, update and delete component through Component Pattern Management System(CPMS) under the development environment which can be easily applied to his own application using multimedia component, in this thesis, CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) environment.

  • ITA (Information Technology Architecture) satisfies the requirements of information system, supports the information used in the institution's business to guarantee the interoperability and security, and analyzes the components of information system. ITA consists of EA (Enterprise Architecture), TRM (Technical Reference Manual) and SP (Standard Profile). The SP, one of the major components of ITA, is a set of information technology standards. In this paper, to construct and utilize the ITA, we mention the applications of information technology about the SP system implementation based on the TRM. The SP management system implemented in this paper is the first trial in Korea, and designs the software with object oriented programming languages such as JSP and Java. Moreover the basic and detailed specification based on the UML notation, system design using the component and system design pattern consisting of software architectures enhance the software reusability. And the constructed system in this paper shows less maintenance cost by using the public softwares such as Linux system, Korean DBMS, Apache and Tomcat, etc. Finally, the system includes the SP reference system which is used in the other institutions and cannot be found in other institutions. Also it includes the additional diverse service modules which support the subsequent processing for the establishment and revision of standards via internet.

  • This paper presents an overview of deep space orbit determination software (DSODS), as well as validation and verification results on its event prediction capabilities. DSODS was developed in the MATLAB object-oriented programming environment to support the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) mission. DSODS has three major capabilities: celestial event prediction for spacecraft, orbit determination with deep space network (DSN) tracking data, and DSN tracking data simulation. To achieve its functionality requirements, DSODS consists of four modules: orbit propagation (OP), event prediction (EP), data simulation (DS), and orbit determination (OD) modules. This paper explains the highest-level data flows between modules in event prediction, orbit determination, and tracking data simulation processes. Furthermore, to address the event prediction capability of DSODS, this paper introduces OP and EP modules. The role of the OP module is to handle time and coordinate system conversions, to propagate spacecraft trajectories, and to handle the ephemerides of spacecraft and celestial bodies. Currently, the OP module utilizes the General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT) as a third-party software component for high-fidelity deep space propagation, as well as time and coordinate system conversions. The role of the EP module is to predict celestial events, including eclipses, and ground station visibilities, and this paper presents the functionality requirements of the EP module. The validation and verification results show that, for most cases, event prediction errors were less than 10 millisec when compared with flight proven mission analysis tools such as GMAT and Systems Tool Kit (STK). Thus, we conclude that DSODS is capable of predicting events for the KPLO in real mission applications.

  • This paper proposes an object-oriented software development guidance and an evaluation index for the productivity related to Spring 2.5 and Seam 2.0 framework. Lightweight container architecture, such as the EJB, but not heavy, to provide all of the architecture is possible. Currently in production until the lightweight container architecture, known most commonly used architecture framework is Spring and Seam. However, there is no comparison research about the performance of Spring 2.5 and Seam 2.0 framework with same identical platform. In this study, the Java Pet Store blueprint application development platform environment based on the same ordering system JPetStore Spring 2.5 and Seam 2.0 is in the design and implementation. In addition, comparison and standardization of software development productivity assessment is to provide guidance.

  • Java, a platform independent object-oriented programming language, is widely used, however it should be integrated with JNI to use system services or to reuse legacy systems. Though JNI provides the standard APIs which allow Java to be combined with C/$C^{++}$, it is very hard and cumbersome for developers to use JNI APIs. In order to address this problem, we introduce a translator named C2JNI, which converts the embedded C program into a JNI compatible C program. With C2JNI, developers can Integrate Java and C programs without JNI APIs, and it will reduce the complexity caused by JNI APIs.

  • Bi-modal tram is a new conceptual transit mean for public transportation integrating thoroughfare and railroad vehicle's characteristics together. This paper describes about a software design which will be applied to an automatic driving system, which is called NCS (Navigation Control System), considering such multiplicity of mechanical characteristic. The NCS adopts propulsion, braking, and direction control functions for a tram and utilizes various sensors to fully take control over such functions. In this paper, we defined and analyzed the capabilities of the NCS. Those capabilities are designed with a UML 2.0 based object-oriented modeling technique. Moreover, to ensure the complete operation of such capabilities, a communication protocol (which is capable of controlling sensors, propulsion, brakes, and traveling directions) is designed here. Throughout the paper, firstly, all the NCS related functions are discussed in accordance with the equipments they are belonged to; secondly the UML modeling application techniques for the defined functions and protocols for the communications between equipments are introduced; and lastly a validation process for the design specifications is going to be discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to suggest the development of a learning management system for dental radiology education using the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment(Moodle). Materials and Methods: Moodle is a well-known and verified open-source software-learning management system (OSS-LMS). The Moodle software was installed on a server computer and customized for dental radiology education. The system was implemented for teaching undergraduate students to diagnose dental caries in panoramic images. Questions were chosen that could assess students' diagnosis ability. Students were given several questions corresponding to each of 100 panoramic images. Results: The installation and customization of Moodle was feasible, cost-effective, and time-saving. By having students answer questions repeatedly, it was possible to train them to examine panoramic images sequentially and thoroughly. Conclusion: Based on its educational efficiency and efficacy, the adaptation of an OSS-LMS in dental school may be highly recommended. The system could be extended to continuing education for dentists. Further studies on the objective evaluation of knowledge acquisition and retention are needed.
