  • The paper proposes a novel unsupervised video object segmentation algorithm for image sequences with low depth-of-field (DOF), which is a popular photographic technique enabling to represent the intention of photographer by giving a clear focus only on an object-of-interest (OOI). The proposed algorithm largely consists of two modules. The first module automatically extracts OOIs from the first frame by separating sharply focused OOIs from other out-of-focused foreground or background objects. The second module tracks OOIs for the rest of the video sequence, aimed at running the system in real-time, or at least, semi-real-time. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm provides an effective tool, which can be a basis of applications, such as video analysis for virtual reality, immersive video system, photo-realistic video scene generation and video indexing systems.

  • This paper suggests a collision techniques for a higher reality in augmented reality by processing collision between a real object obtained through video frame input and a marker-based virtual object or a virtual object from Opengl. Augmented reality system is providing the visual information containing a virtual object added to the real environment and interactive interface between objects and between user and objects becomes a more concerning interest. But the collision problem is essential to the interactive interface and has to be solved first. Therefore, the proposed system suggests a solution for it to increase the realism and the immersion by validating the collision among a marker-based object, a virtual object from Opengl, and a real object obtained through web camera, that is, video frame.

  • This paper proposes a method of detecting object of interest(OOI) in general natural images. OOI is subjectively estimated by human in images. The vision of human, in general, might focus on OOI. As the first step for automatic detection of OOI, candidate regions of OOI are detected by using a saliency map based on the human visual perception. A saliency map locates an approximate OOI, but there is a problem that they are not accurately segmented. In order to address this problem, in the second step, an exact object region is automatically detected by combining graph-based image segmentation and skeletonization. In this paper, we calculate the precision, recall and accuracy to compare the performance of the proposed method to existing methods. In experimental results, the proposed method has achieved better performance than existing methods by reducing the problems such as under detection and over detection.

  • In this paper, an extended snake algorithm using color variance energy is proposed for segmenting an interest object in color image. General snake algorithm makes use of energy in image to segment images into a interesting area and background. There are many kinds of energy that can be used by the snake algorithm. The efficiency of the snake algorithm is depend on what kind of energy is used. A general snake algorithm based on active contour model uses the intensity value as an image energy that can be implemented and analyzed easily. But it is sensitive to noises because the image gradient uses a differential operator to get its image energy. And it is difficult for the general snake algorithm to be applied on the complex image background. Therefore, the proposed snake algorithm efficiently segment an interest object on the color image by adding a color variance of the segmented area to the image energy. This paper executed various experiments to segment an interest object on color images with simple or complex background for verifying the performance of the proposed extended snake algorithm. It shows improved accuracy performance about 12.42 %.

  • With the increase of social crime rate, the interest on the intelligent security system is also growing. This paper proposes a detection system of monitoring whether abnormal behavior is being carried in the images captured using CCTV. After detection of an object via subtraction from background image and morpholgy, this system extracts an abnormal behavior by each object's feature information and its trajectory. When an object is loitering for a while in CCTV images, this system considers the loitering as an abnormal behavior and sends the alarm signal to the control center to facilitate prevention in advance. Especially, this research aims at detecting a loitoring act among various abnormal behaviors and also extends to the detection whether an incoming object is identical to one of inactive objects out of image.

  • Particle filter is a kind of conditional density propagation model. Its similar characteristics to both selection and mutation operator of evolutionary strategy (ES) due to its Bayesian inference rule structure, shows better performance than any other tracking algorithms. When a new object is entering the region of interest, particle filter sets which have been swarming around the existing objects have to move and track the new one instantaneously. Moreover, there is another problem that it could not track multiple objects well if they were moving away from each other after having been overlapped. To resolve reinitialization problem, we use competitive-AVQ algorithm of neural network. And we regard interfarme difference (IFD) of background images as potential field and give priority to the particles according to this IFD to track multiple objects independently. In this paper, we showed that the possibility of real-time object tracking as intelligent interfaces by simulating the deformable contour particle filters.

  • A depth measurement system to recognize 3D shape of objects using single camera, line laser and a rotating mirror has been investigated. The camera and the light source are fixed, facing the rotating mirror. The laser light is reflected by the mirror and projected to the scene objects whose locations are to be determined. The camera detects the laser light location on object surfaces through the same mirror. The scan over the area to be measured is done by mirror rotation. The Segmentation process of object recognition is performed using the depth data of restored 3D data. The Object recognition domain can be reduced by separating area of interest objects from complex background.

  • This paper presents an image analysis method for mearurement correction using the object contour based analysis, which measure the shape features of the imitation missile object. The image analysis is divided into object's tilting angle analysis and corner points detection. The tilting angle is calculated by edge extracting the region-of-interest image and by Radon transform it. The corner points are obtained by contour tracking of binary image and its curvature data processing and analysis. The ability of this presented method is simulated and evaluated by the results of accuracy testing.

  • In this paper, we have studied how to search an underwater object by learning the image generated by the side scan sonar in the convolution neural network. In the method of human side analysis of the side scan image or the image, the convolution neural network algorithm can enhance the efficiency of the analysis. The image data of the side scan sonar used in the experiment is the public data of NSWC (Naval Surface Warfare Center) and consists of four kinds of synthetic underwater objects. The convolutional neural network algorithm is based on Faster R-CNN (Region based Convolutional Neural Networks) learning based on region of interest and the details of the neural network are self-organized to fit the data we have. The results of the study were compared with a precision-recall curve, and we investigated the applicability of underwater object detection in convolution neural networks by examining the effect of change of region of interest assigned to sonar image data on detection performance.
