This paper reports a novel object-detection technique in video sequences. The proposed algorithm consists of detection of objects in illuminated and occluded videos by using object features and a neural network technique. It consists of two functional modules: region-based object feature extraction and continuous detection of objects in video sequences with region features. This scheme is proposed as an enhancement of the Lowe's scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) object detection method. This technique solved the high computation time problem of feature generation in the SIFT method. The improvement is achieved by region-based feature classification in the objects to be detected; optimal neural network-based feature reduction is presented in order to reduce the object region feature dataset with winner pixel estimation between the video frames of the video sequence. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves better overall performance than other object detection techniques, and region-based feature detection is faster in comparison to other recent techniques.

With the recent development of deep learning, most computer vision-related tasks are being solved with deep learning-based network technologies such as CNN and RNN. Computer vision tasks such as object detection or object segmentation use intermediate features extracted from the same backbone such as Resnet or FPN for training and inference for object detection and segmentation. In this paper, an experiment was conducted to find out the compression efficiency and the effect of encoding on task inference performance when the features extracted in the intermediate stage of CNN are encoded. The feature map that combines the features of 256 channels into one image and the original image were encoded in HEVC to compare and analyze the inference performance for object detection and segmentation. Since the intermediate feature map encodes the five levels of feature maps (P2 to P6), the image size and resolution are increased compared to the original image. However, when the degree of compression is weakened, the use of feature maps yields similar or better inference results to the inference performance of the original image.

Recently, object detection technology based on CNN has been actively studied. Object detection technology is used as an important technology in autonomous vehicles, intelligent image analysis, and so on. In this paper, we propose a rotation change robust object detection system by applying MI-FL (Moment Invariant-Feature Layer) to SSD (Single Shot Multibox Detector) which is one of CNN-based object detectors. First, the features of the input image are extracted based on the VGG network. Then, a total of six feature layers are applied to generate bounding boxes by predicting the location and type of object. We then use the NMS algorithm to get the bounding box that is the most likely object. Once an object bounding box has been determined, the invariant moment feature of the corresponding region is extracted using MI-FL, and stored and learned in advance. In the detection process, it is possible to detect the rotated image more robust than the conventional method by using the previously stored moment invariant feature information. The performance improvement of about 4 ~ 5% was confirmed by comparing SSD with existing SSD and MI-FL.
Object detection and tracking have become one of the most active research areas in the past few years, and play an important role in computer vision applications over our daily life. Many tracking techniques are proposed, and Camshift is an effective algorithm for real time dynamic object tracking, which uses only color features, so that the algorithm is sensitive to illumination and some other environmental elements. This paper presents and implements an effective moving object detection and tracking to reduce the influence of illumination interference, which improve the performance of tracking under similar color background. The implemented prototype system recognizes object using invariant features, and reduces the dimension of feature descriptor to rectify the problems. The experimental result shows that that the system is superior to the existing methods in processing time, and maintains better problem ratios in various environments.

Image processing for object detection and identification has been studied for supply chain management application with various approaches. Among them, feature pointed detection algorithm is used to track an object or to recognize a position in automated supply chain systems and a depth image based feature point detection is recently highlighted in the application. The result of feature point detection is easily influenced by image noise. Also, the depth image has noise itself and it also affects to the accuracy of the detection results. In order to solve these problems, we propose a novel hybrid filtering mechanism for depth image based feature point detection, it shows better performance compared with conventional hybrid filtering mechanism.

In this paper, we propose an efficient object detection and classification algorithm for video surveillance applications. Previous researches mainly concentrated either on object detection or classification using particular type of feature e.g., Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) or Speeded Up Robust Feature (SURF) etc. In this paper we propose an algorithm that mutually performs object detection and classification. We combinedly use heterogeneous types of features such as texture and color distribution from local patches to increase object detection and classification rates. We perform object detection using spatial clustering on interest points, and use Bag of Words model and Naive Bayes classifier respectively for image representation and classification. Experimental results show that our combined feature is better than the individual local descriptor in object classification rate.
In this paper, we propose a simple online multiple object (human) tracking method, LKDeep (Lucas-Kanade feature and Detection based Simple Online Multiple Object Tracker), which can run in fast online enough on CPU core only with acceptable tracking performance for embedded surveillance purpose. The proposed LKDeep is a pragmatic hybrid approach which tracks multiple objects (humans) mainly based on LK features but is compensated by detection on periodic times or on necessity times. Compared to other state-of-the-art multiple object tracking methods based on 'Tracking-By-Detection (TBD)' approach, the proposed LKDeep is faster since it does not have to detect object on every frame and it utilizes simple association rule, but it shows a good object tracking performance. Through experiments in comparison with other multiple object tracking (MOT) methods using the public DPM detector among online state-of-the-art MOT methods reported in MOT challenge [1], it is shown that the proposed simple online MOT method, LKDeep runs faster but with good tracking performance for surveillance purpose. It is further observed through single object tracking (SOT) visual tracker benchmark experiment [2] that LKDeep with an optimized deep learning detector can run in online fast with comparable tracking performance to other state-of-the-art SOT methods.

In this paper, a new object detection method for FLIR images is proposed. The proposed method consists of intensity ranking feature and a classification algerian using the feature. The intensity ranking feature is a representation of an image, from which intensity distribution is regularized. Each object candidate region is classified as object or non-object by the proposed classification algorithm which is based on the intensity ranking similarity between the candidate and object training images. Using the proposed algorithm pixel-wise detection results can be obtained without any additional candidate selection algorithm. In experimental results, it is shown that the proposed ranking feature is appropriate for object detection in a FLIR image and some vehicle detection results in the situation of existing noise, scale variation, and rotation of the objects are presented.

This paper describes a visual object detection approach utilizing ensemble based machine learning. Object detection methods employing 1D features have the benefit of fast calculation speed. However, for real image with complex background, detection accuracy and performance are degraded. In this paper, we propose an ensemble learning algorithm that combines a 1D feature classifier and 2D DNF (Disjunctive Normal Form) classifier to improve the object detection performance in a single input image. Also, to improve the computing efficiency and accuracy, we propose a feature selecting method to reduce the computing time and ensemble algorithm by combining the 1D features and 2D DNF features. In the verification experiments, we selected the Haar-like feature as the 1D image descriptor, and demonstrated the performance of the algorithm on a few datasets such as face and vehicle.
Recently, as autonomous vehicles and intelligent CCTV are growing more interest, the efficient object detection is essential technique. The DPM(Deformable Part Models) which is basis of this paper have used a typical object system that represents highly variable objects using mixtures of deformable part for object. Although it shows high detection performance by capturing part shape and configuration of object model, but it is limited to use in real application due to the complicated algorithm. In this paper, instead of image feature pyramid that takes up a large amount of computation in one part of the detector, we propose a method to reduce the computation speed by reconstructing a new image feature pyramid that uses adaptive bilinear interpolation of feature maps obtained on a specific image scale. As a result, the detection performance for object was lowered a little by 2.82%, however, the proposed detection method improved the speed performance by 10% in comparison with original DPM.
