The Study of Italian Velvet $14^{th}$ Century-$17^{th}$ Century

  • The purpose of this study is to document an unidentified velvet fabric which is located in the Museum. The investigation was conducted by analyzing color, weaving technique. pattern of the study object. To identify the origin of the object, many references about color trends, construction methods and patterns were accessed. Two comparative objects which were dating from 1600 to 1699 in the Museum of F.I.T. were selected since they are similar to the study object. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; (1) The type of this study object is 'cut and voided velvet'. It is obtained establishing the motif as areas of cut pile so as to form a pattern, while leaving other areas of the grounded weave without pile. Two flowers and two tulips with S curved stems are composed as one unit in the vertical direction. (2) The colors used in this study object. which are ivory, smoke blue, medium orange, and yellow. are part of a new trend color in the $17^{th}$ century. (3) The vertical undulating stripe patterns are also of significance in this fabric. They seemed to be contemporary with the serpentine line which was common since the $15^{th}$ century and the vertical stripes pattern which appeared from the $16^{th}$ century. (4) The stylized tulip patterns of this study object began to appear in the early $17^{th}$ century. The stems and leaves of this patterns are less sinuous than the floral motifs of the later $17^{th}$ century. Therefore, the study object is dated to early in $17^{th}$ century because of the color combination. stripes. stylized tulips, leaves. and stems are showing the characteristics of this period.

Active Object Tracking based on stepwise application of Region and Color Information (지역정보와 색 정보의 단계적 적용에 의한 능동 객체 추적)

  • An active object tracking algorithm using Pan and Tilt camera based in the stepwise application of region and color information from realtime image sequences is proposed. To reduce environment noises in input sequences, Gaussian filtering is performed first. An image is divided into background and objects by using the adaptive Gaussian mixture model. Once the target object is detected, an initial search window close to an object region is set up and color information is extracted from the region. We track moving objects in realtime by using the CAMShift algorithm which enables to trace objects in active camera with the color information. The proper tracking is accomplished by controlling the amount of pan and tilt to be placed the center position of object into the middle of field of view. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective than the hand-operated window method.

Object Tracking Using Information Fusion (정보융합을 이용한 객체 추적)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for tracking objects continously and successively based on fusion of region information, color information and motion template when multiple objects are occluded and splitted. For each frame, color template is updated and compared with the present object. The predicted region, dynamic template and color histogram are used to classify the objects. The vertical histogram of the silhouettes is analyzed to determine whether or not the foreground region contains multiple objects. The proposed method can recognize more correctly the objects to be tracked.

Object-based Image Retrieval for Color Query Image Detection (컬러 질의 영상 검출을 위한 객체 기반 영상 검색)

  • In this paper we propose an object-based image retrieval method using spatial color model and feature points registration method for an effective color query detection. The proposed method in other to overcome disadvantages of existing color histogram methods and then this method is use the HMMD model and rough set in order to segment and detect the wanted image parts as a real time without the user's manufacturing in the database image and query image. Here, we select candidate regions in the similarity between the query image and database image. And we use SIFT registration methods in the selected region for object retrieving. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more satisfactory detection radio than conventional method.

Region Merging Method Preserving Object Boundary for Color Image Segmentation (칼라 영상 분할을 위한 경계선 보존 영역 병합 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose color image segmentation by region merging method preserving the boundary of an object. The proposed method selects initial region by using quantized image's index map after vector quantizing an original image. After then, we merge regions by applying boundary restricted factor in order to consider the boundary of an object in HSI color space. Also we merge the regions in RGB color space for non-processed regions in HSI color space. And we reduce processing time by decreasing iterative process in region merging algorithm. Experimental results have demonstrated the superiority in region's segmentation results and processing time for various images.

Object Detection Using Predefined Gesture and Tracking (약속된 제스처를 이용한 객체 인식 및 추적)

  • In the this paper, a gesture-based user interface based on object detection using predefined gesture and the tracking of the detected object is proposed. For object detection, moving objects in a frame are computed by comparing multiple previous frames and predefined gesture is used to detect the target object among those moving objects. Any object with the predefined gesture can be used to control. We also propose an object tracking algorithm, namely density based meanshift algorithm, that uses color distribution of the target objects. The proposed object tracking algorithm tracks a target object crossing the background with a similar color more accurately than existing techniques. Experimental results show that the proposed object detection and tracking algorithms achieve higher detection capability with less computational complexity.

  • One of future remote sensing techniques for transportation application is vehicle detection from the space, which could be the basis of measuring traffic volume and recognizing traffic condition in the future. This paper introduces an approach to vehicle detection using image object segmentation approach. The object-oriented image processing is particularly beneficial to high-resolution image classification of urban area, which suffers from noisy components in general. The project site was Dae-Jeon metropolitan area and a set of true color aerial images at 10cm resolution was used for the test. Authors investigated a variety of parameters such as scale, color, and shape and produced a customized solution for vehicle detection, which is based on a knowledge-based hierarchical model in the environment of eCognition. The highest tumbling block of the vehicle detection in the given data sets was to discriminate vehicles in dark color from new black asphalt pavement. Except for the cases, the overall accuracy was over 90%.

Robust Object Detection Algorithm Using Spatial Gradient Information (SG 정보를 이용한 강인한 물체 추출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose the robust object detection algorithm with spatial gradient information. To do this, first, we eliminate error values that appear due to complex environment and various illumination change by using prior methods based on hue and intensity from the input video and background. Visible shadows are eliminated from the foreground by using an RGB color model and a qualified RGB color model. And unnecessary values are eliminated by using the HSI color model. The background is removed completely from the foreground leaving a silhouette to be restored using spatial gradient and HSI color model. Finally, we validate the applicability of the proposed method using various indoor and outdoor conditions in a complex environments.

Multiple Templates and Weighted Correlation Coefficient-based Object Detection and Tracking for Underwater Robots (수중 로봇을 위한 다중 템플릿 및 가중치 상관 계수 기반의 물체 인식 및 추종)

  • The camera has limitations of poor visibility in underwater environment due to the limited light source and medium noise of the environment. However, its usefulness in close range has been proved in many studies, especially for navigation. Thus, in this paper, vision-based object detection and tracking techniques using artificial objects for underwater robots have been studied. We employed template matching and mean shift algorithms for the object detection and tracking methods. Also, we propose the weighted correlation coefficient of adaptive threshold -based and color-region-aided approaches to enhance the object detection performance in various illumination conditions. The color information is incorporated into the template matched area and the features of the template are used to robustly calculate correlation coefficients. And the objects are recognized using multi-template matching approach. Finally, the water basin experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed techniques using an underwater robot platform yShark made by KORDI.

Performance Improvement of a Deep Learning-based Object Recognition using Imitated Red-green Color Blindness of Camouflaged Soldier Images (적록색맹 모사 영상 데이터를 이용한 딥러닝 기반의 위장군인 객체 인식 성능 향상)

  • The camouflage pattern was difficult to distinguish from the surrounding background, so it was difficult to classify the object and the background image when the color image is used as the training data of deep-learning. In this paper, we proposed a red-green color blindness image transformation method using the principle that people of red-green blindness distinguish green color better than ordinary people. Experimental results show that the camouflage soldier's recognition performance improved by proposed a deep learning model of the ensemble technique using the imitated red-green-blind image data and the original color image data.
