A Web Caching Algorithm with Divided Cache Scope (분할 영역 기반의 웹 캐싱 알고리즘)

  • Efficient using of web cache is becoming important factor that decide system management efficiency in web-Based system. Cache performance depends heavily on replacement algorithms, which dynamically select a suitable subset of objects for caching in a finite space. However, replacement algorithm on web cache has many differences than traditional replacement algorithm. In this paper, a web-caching algorithm is proposed for efficient operation of web base system. The algorithm is designed based on a divided scope that considered size reference characteristic and heterogeneity on web object. The performance of the algorithm is analyzed with an experiment. With the experiment results, the algorithm is compared with previous replacement algorithms, and its performance is confirmed ith an improvement of response speed.

  • In this paper, we propose a new caching scheme for continuous media data where the buffer allocation unit is divided into two modes : interval and object. All of objects' access patterns are monitored and based on the results of monitoring, a request for an object is decided to cache its data with either interval mode or object mode. The results of our simulation show that our proposed caching scheme is better than the existing caching algorithms such as interval caching where the access patterns of the objects are changed with time.

  • 본 논문에서는 데이터 방송 환경에서의 DSM-CC 관련 Object Carousel Manager를 구현하고, 성능향상을 위한 캐싱 기법을 제안한다. Object Carousel Manger 구현은 다음과 같은 순서로 이루어진다. 먼저, 방송스트림에서 해당 PID별로 얻어온 모듈을 캐시에 저장한 후, 모듈에서 BIOP 메세지 오브젝트별로 분석한 뒤 파싱 한다. 그런 후, 파싱된 BIOP 메시지 오브젝트를 해당 서비스 게이트웨이, 디렉터리. 파일로 변환해준다. 마지막으로, 변환된 파일시스템에서 해당하는 Xlet Application을 실행시켜 주게 된다. 시스템성능 향상을 위해서 제안하는 캐싱 기법은 다음과 같다. DII의 Caching Priority Descriptor를 이용하여, Object들을 포함하고 있는 각각의 모듈에 대해서 Version Number를 Checking하는 주기인 Transparency_level을 부여하고, Application 실행 시 보여 주는 화면 순서대로 필요한 모듈에 대해 우선순위를 부여하여, 캐시에 업데이트 시 이를 반영하여, 시스템 전체의 성능을 향상시킨다.

Cache Optimization on Hot-Point Proxy Caching Using Weighted-Rank Cache Replacement Policy

  • The development of proxy caching is essential in the area of video-on-demand (VoD) to meet users' expectations. VoD requires high bandwidth and creates high traffic due to the nature of media. Many researchers have developed proxy caching models to reduce bandwidth consumption and traffic. Proxy caching keeps part of a media object to meet the viewing expectations of users without delay and provides interactive playback. If the caching is done continuously, the entire cache space will be exhausted at one stage. Hence, the proxy server must apply cache replacement policies to replace existing objects and allocate the cache space for the incoming objects. Researchers have developed many cache replacement policies by considering several parameters, such as recency, access frequency, cost of retrieval, and size of the object. In this paper, the Weighted-Rank Cache replacement Policy (WRCP) is proposed. This policy uses such parameters as access frequency, aging, and mean access gap ratio and such functions as size and cost of retrieval. The WRCP applies our previously developed proxy caching model, Hot-Point Proxy, at four levels of replacement, depending on the cache requirement. Simulation results show that the WRCP outperforms our earlier model, the Dual Cache Replacement Policy.

Task Creation and Assignment based on Object Caching for Parallel Spatial Join (병렬공간 조인을 위한 객체 캐쉬 기반 태스크 생성 및 할당)

  • A spatial join has the property that its execution time exponentially increases in proportion to the number of spatial objects. Recently, there have been many attempts for improving the performance of the spatial join by using parallel processing schemes, In the case of executing parallel spatial join using the parallel machine with shared disk architecture, the disk bottleneck of parallel processing of spatial join worsens in comparison with sequential spatial join. This paper presents the algorithms of task creation and assignment to reduce the disk bottleneck caused by accessing the shared disk at the same time, and to minimize message passing between processors, This paper proposes object caching which is a higher level of abstraction than page caching, and uses it to do creation and assignment of tasks according to temporal and spatial localities for minimizing disk access time. The object caching shows the performance improvement of 50%. The task creation and assignment using localities gives the gain of 30% and 20%. Overall performance evaluation of the proposed algorithms shows 7.2 times speed up than those of sequential execution of spatial joins.

Hierarchical Location Caching Scheme for Mobile Object Tracking in the Internet of Things

  • Mobility arises naturally in the Internet of Things networks, since the location of mobile objects, e.g., mobile agents, mobile software, mobile things, or users with wireless hardware, changes as they move. Tracking their current location is essential to mobile computing. To overcome the scalability problem, hierarchical architectures of location databases have been proposed. When location updates and lookups for mobile objects are localized, these architectures become effective. However, the network signaling costs and the execution number of database operations increase particularly when the scale of the architectures and the numbers of databases becomes large to accommodate a great number of objects. This disadvantage can be alleviated by a location caching scheme which exploits the spatial and temporal locality in location lookup. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical location caching scheme, which acclimates the existing location caching scheme to a hierarchical architecture of location databases. The performance analysis indicates that the adjustment of such thresholds has an impact on cost reduction in the proposed scheme.

Development for a Simple Client-based Distributed Web Caching System

  • Since the number of user-requests increases dramatically on the Internet, the servers and networks can be swamped unexpectedly without any prior notice. Therefore, the end-users are waiting or refused for the responses of the contents from the originating servers. To solve this problem, it has been considered that a distributed web caching system efficiently utilizes structural elements of the network. Because a distributed web caching system uses the caches that are close to end-users on the network, it transmits the contents to users faster than the original network system. This paper proposes a simple client-based distributed web caching system(2HRCS) that client can directly perform object allocation and load balancing without an additional DNS for load balancing in CARP (Cache Array Routing Protocol) and GHS (Global Hosting System) that are the recent distributed web caching system protocol. The proposed system reduces the cost of setup and operation by removing DNS that needs to balance the load in the existing system. The system has clients with consistent hashing method, so it extends its environment to other distributed web caching system that has caches of different capacity. A distributed web caching system is composed and tested to evaluate the performance. As a result, it shows superior performance to consistent hashing system. Because this system can keep performance of the existing system and reduce costs, it has the advantage of constructing medium or small scale CDN (Contents Delivery Network).

  • The loss due to caching replacement in the wireless mobile proxy caching structure has a significant effect on streaming QoS. This paper proposes a similarity-based caching loss minimization (SCLM) for minimizing the loss caused by the caching replacement. The proposed scheme divides object segments, and then it performs the similarity relation about them. Segments that perform the similarity relation generates similarity relation tree (SRT). The similarity is an important metric for deciding a relevance feedback, and segments that satisfy these requirements in the cache block for caching replacement. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the existing prefix caching scheme, segment-based caching scheme, and bi-directional proxy scheme in terms of QoS, average delayed startup ratio, cache throughput, and cache response ratio.

In this paper, the web caching algorithm is proposed for the efficient operation of the web base system. The algorithm is designed based on a divided scope that considered size reference characteristic and heterogeneity on web object. With the experiment environment, the algorithm is compared with conservative replacement algorithms, we have confirmed more than $15\%$ of an performance improvement.

  • Conventional caching system doesn't support Real-Time attributes and load balance. To solve these problems, this paper describes the design and implementation of the RIOP(Real-Time Inter-ORB Protocol) to provide QoS guarantees mechanism integrating RSVP and TAO ORB. Futhermore, it provides fast XCSLS(Extended Caching System for Load Balance) implementing main memory cache in Primary Server using locality of objects. In this paper, a key feature is presented : QoS enforcement, PS(Primary Server) and RS(Replicated Server)
