Effect of Additives and Cooling Rates on the Electrical Resistivity of BaTiO3 Ceramics (I) (BaTiO$_3$ 세라믹스의 전기저항에 미치는 첨가제와 냉각속도의 영향(I) - TiO$_2$, SiO$_2$ 및 Al2O$_3$ 단미첨가 -)

  • Microstructure, room temperature resistivity and temperature coefficient of resistance of BaTiO3 ceramics were studied by varying cooling rates and additives such as TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3. The basic composition of the BaTiO3 ceramics was formed by adding 0.25 mol% Dy2O3 and 0.07 mol% MnO2 to the BaTiO3 composition. Unlike the additives of SiO2 and Al2O3, an addition of 2 mol% TiO2 to the basic composition was effective to control the grain size of the fired specimens. The room temperature resistivity and the temperature coefficient of resistance for the specimen of this particular compostion were measured as about 102 ohm.cm and 16.5%/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The observed grain boundary phase of the sample with Al2O3 additive was BaTi3O7, while that of the samples with SiO2 additive was confirmed as BaTiSiO5.

  • This experiment was studied in the system of (1-x) CaO MgO $2SiO-Al_2O_3$ to investigate forming of solid solution. The technique empolyed was the well known water-quenching method. Differential thermal analysis of the each glass water quenched indicated that under 30 mole% $Al_2O_3$ was lowered with increasing of the amount of $Al_2O_3$ It was supposed by X-ray diffraction patterns of each specimen sintered at various temperature that only solid solution was formed under the 30mole % $Al_2O_3$ compositions solid solution and anorthite were formed at the 20mole% $Al_2O_3$ composition anorthite solid solution and spinel$(MgAl_2O_4)$ were formed over the 40mole% $Al_2O_3$ compositions. The maximum density and thermal expanison coefficient was 2.89g/cm 7.74x106./C$^{\circ}$ respectively in the composi-tion of 10 mole% $Al_2O_3$ . All the specimens showed linear thermal expansion behavior. Microhardness was as high as 850kg/nm2 in the composition of 5, 10, 20 mole % $Al_2O_3$ and dielectric constant was 7.3-6.9.

Effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ Addition on the Microstructures and Microwave Dielectric Properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ System

  • The effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ addition on the microstructures and microwave dielectic properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ system were investigated. $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_{5}O_{14}$ phases were observed for compositions based on BaO/$Nd_2O_3$ = 1 ratio. The compositions deviated from $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ ratio were composed of major phases of $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$, and the compound of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2(Nd_2Ti_2O_7)$ or that of BaO and $TiO_2(BaTi_4O_9)$. The microstructure of ceramic with $BaO{\cdot}Nd_2O_3{\cdot}4TiO_2$ composition varied from spherical grains to needlelike grains with increasing sintering temperature. With increasing $Nd_2O_3$, the optimum sintering temperature with maximum density increased, and the dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and quality factor(Q) decreased due to the formation of secondary phases. With increasing $TiO_2$, the optimum sintering temperature and the dielectric constant decreased with increased Q value. And the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, ${\tau}_f$ shifted toward positive direction. The dielectric ceramics with $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ showed Q values of above 2000 and dielectric constants of above 80 at 3GHz.

  • ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrate were prepared by the oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ thin films processed by PECVD(Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) technique. The phase transformation of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films was mainly controlled by the substrate temperature and oxidation process of $Fe_3O_4$ phase. $Fe_3O_4$ phase was obtained at the deposition temperature of $200{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ phase could be transformed into ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ phase under controlled oxidation at $280{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ and ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ obtained by oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ phase had the same spinel structure and were coexisted. The oxidized ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin film on $Al_2O_3$ substrate showed a porous island structure.

  • Quarternary $SrO-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ glasses were fabricated as a function of $R({\equiv}SrO\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%)$ and $K({\equiv}(Al_2O_3+SiO_2)\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%)$. The structures of these glasses were investigated through Infrared absorption spectra. When R increased, the intensities of the absorption bands around $1,200{\sim}1,600cm^{-1}$ resulting from the B-O stretching vibration bond in the symmetrical trigonal $BO_3$ units decreased, and these of the absorption bands around $800{\sim}1,200cm^{-1}$ caused by the B-O stretching vibration bond of the tetrahedral $BO_4$ units varied. Also, the intensities of the absorption bands for the B-O stretching vibration band in trigonal $BO_3$ units increased and these of the bands for B-O stretching vibration bond in tetrahedral $BO_4$ units decreased as K increased.

  • Several combinations of ozone based advanced oxidation processes were tested for the treatment of red water (RW) containing recalcitrant chemical pollutants produced from 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) manufacturing process. $O_3$, $UV/O_3$, $UV/O_3/H_2O_2$, $UV/O_3/H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ processes were tested for the treatment of RW. The order of organic and color removal efficiency was found to be : $O_3{\leq}UV/O_3$ < $UV/O_3/H_2O_2$ < $UV/O_3/H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$. The optimum conditions for the removal of organic and color in the $UV/O_3/H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ process were 0.053 g/min of ozone flow rate, 10 mM of $H_2O_2$ concentration and 0.1 mM of $FeSO_4$ concentration. Organic and color removal efficiencies were 96 and 100 % respectively in the $UV/O_3/H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ process. tert-butyl alcohol (t-buOH) was used as the hydroxyl radical scavenger. Enhancement of hydroxyl radical production was achieved by the combination of ozone with several oxidants such as UV, $H_2O_2$, $Fe^{2+}$.

Shaping and Sintering of $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3$ System powders by Slurry Process (Slurr법에 의한 $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3$계 미분말의 성형과 소결성)

  • Green sheet was prepared by tape casting in the composition of (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 system using Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 and PbTiO3 synthesized with PbO, Nb2O5 MgO and TiO2 The densest green sheet was obtained in the weight ratio 70:30 of powder to binder. Green sheet wasmultilayered in metal mould and formed into lamination at 7$0^{\circ}C$, 300kg/cm2 The lamination was sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$ 2hr, Dielectric constant and Curie temperature of disc type sintered body was highered with increasing the amount of PbTiO3 and was in the range of 19000-21000, -7~45$^{\circ}C$ respectively. Green and sintered relative density of lamination was 61% and 95% respectively.

Effect of Alumina on the Ion-Exchange Capacity of Porous Glasses (다공질유리의 이온교환성에 미치는 알루미나의 영향)

  • Ion-exchange porous glasses were prepared by heat treatment and subsequently hydro thermalor acid leaching treatment $10Li_2O$.$(90-x)B_2O_3$.$xSiO_2$ base glasses containing various amount of $Al_2O_3$ or $MoO_3$. It was investigated how the phase separation and the cation exchange capacity(CEC) were affected by the addition of $Al_2O_3$ or $MoO_3$. The optimum condition of phase separation in these glasses was about 48$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. The degree of phase separation was rapidly suppressed by the addition of $Al_2O_3$ up to 10 mol% and thereafter suppression effect was decreased. The maximum value of CEC, about 252meq/100g, was observed with the $1OLi_2O$.$45B_2O_3$.$45SiO_2+7.5Al_2O_3$ porous glass prepared by hydrothermal treatment and its mean pore radius was about 16.3A. The addition of $MoO_3$ accelerated phase separation and leaching rate. Looking at the remakable increment of pore diameter and pore volume of these porous glasses by the addition of $MoO_3$, the effect of $MoO_3$ may be ascribed to the lowering of silica concentration in the borate phase and to the forming of water-soluble complex with silica during the leaching treatment.

  • The $0.96MgTiO_3-0.04SrTiO_3+xLa(0{\sim}1.0wt%)$ ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of $0.96MgTiO_3-0.04SrTiO_3+xLa(0{\sim}1.0wt%)$ ceramics with sintering temperature were investigated by the XRD and SEM. From the X-ray diffraction patterns, it was found that the perovskite $SrTiO_3$ and ilmenite $MgTiO_3$ structures were coexisted in the $0.96MgTiO_3-0.04SrTiO_3$ ceramics. The second phase of $Sr_{0.5}LaTi_2O_6$ was shown with addition of the $La_2O_3$. The dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$), $Q{\times}f$ value and the temperature coefficient of the $0.96MgTiO_3-0.04SrTiO_3+0.2La$ ceramics were 21. 41, 39991, $-3.3ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Particle Size Effects on Microstructure Evolution and Microwave Dielectric Characteristics in $0.93MgTiO_3-0.07CaTiO_3$Ceramics

  • Effect of the particle size of $MgTiO_3$ and $CaTiO_3$ on the microstructural evolution during sintering of $0.93MgTiO_3-0.07CaTiO_3$ system was investigated. Microwave dielectric characteristics of the sintered ceramics were also measured. The microstructural evolutions were explained with an emphasis on the entrapping behavior of $CaTiO_3$ grain into the $MgTiO_3$ grain and were correlated with microwave dielectric characteristics. With an increasing particle size ratio between $CaTiO_3$and $MgTiO_3$, the fraction of entraped $CaTiO_3$ grains increased, which grain growth of $MgTiO_3$were concurrently accelerated due to decreasing drag force of its boundary migration. Besides, $CaTiO_3$-grain entrapment into the $MgTiO_3$grain interior led to decreaseing quality factor values.
