Internet of things application service system with open source hardware (오픈소스 하드웨어를 활용한 사물인터넷 응용 서비스 시스템)

  • In recent times, Internet of Things (IoT) has attracted wide attention, and there are increasing requests for IoT application services. Open-Source Hardware (OSH) utilizes a variety of components that are created through the sharing of hardware design so that others developers can also work on it. The concept of "open source" that attracted attention in the software industry has been applied to the hardware field by the emergence of IoT market. The emergence of OSH that has the advantage of low hardware cost and faster development encourages the idea of a diverse IoT application services. In this paper, we describe an IoT application service system that is developed using the OSH platform Arduino and Raspberry Pi to process collection, exchange, and computation of the environmental information. The overall system architecture and hardware and software components are presented.

Effects of Onsinhwan on the ovulation in rats (온신환(溫腎丸)이 백서(白鼠)의 배란(排卵)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Onsinhwan(OSH : 溫腎丸) is used in female infertility, especially due to lack of kidney yang or Sinyanghe(腎陽虛). An attempt was made to evaluate the influences of OSH on the serum concentrations of FSH and LH, Estrogen, Progesterone and the histological and optical changes of ovary, ovary weight of rats. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Blood FSH level increased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 2. Blood LH level decreased in experimental group as compared with control group on 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 3. Blood Estrogen level increased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 4. Blood Progesterone level decreased in experimental group as compared with control group on 7th day and 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 5. In histological observations of ovary, ovulation increased in experimental group as compared control group on 7th and on 14th day, which showed no efficacy. 6. In optically observations of ovary, size and weight of ovary increased in experimental group on 7th day and on 14th day, which showed no efficacy. According to these results, OSH did not influence on the ovulation of ovary in rats.

Improvement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act by the Comparison of the Domestic and Foreign Radon-related Policies (국내·외 라돈 관련 제도 비교를 통한 산업안전보건법 개선방안)

  • Objectives: Concerns have been raised about the possible health effects of radon on both workers and consumers with the spread of social attention to the impact of radon exposure. Thus, an entire raw material handling workshop was investigated, and standards for radon levels in the workplace were newly established at 600 Bq/m3. However, regulations on the management of workers exposed to radon are still insufficiently developed. Therefore, by comparative analysis of overseas and domestic radon-related regulations for workplaces, this study aims to suggest improvement plans of protection regulations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) for the prevention of health disorders of radon-exposed workers. Methods: For overseas case studies, we consulted radon-related laws and reports officially published on the websites of the European Union (EU), the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom (UK) government agencies. Domestic law studies were conducted mainly on the Act on Protective Action Guidelines against Radiation in the Natural Environment and the OSH Act. Results: In Europe, the basic safety standards for protection against risks arising from radon (Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM of 5 December 2013) was established by the EU. They recommend that the Member States manage radon level in workplaces based on this criterion. In the U.S., the standards for workplaces are controlled by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). Action on radon in the UK is specified in "Radon in the workplace" published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Conclusions: The Act on Protective Action Guidelines against Radiation in the Natural Environment mainly refers to the management of workplaces that use or handle raw materials but does not have any provisions in terms of protecting naturally exposed workers. In the OSH Act, it is necessary to define whether radon is included in radiation for that reason that its current regulations have limitations in ensuring the safety workers who may be exposed to naturally occurring radon. The management standards are needed for workplaces that do not directly deal with radon but are likely to be exposed to radon. We propose that this could be specified in the regulations for the prevention of health damage caused by radiation, not in Article 125 of the OSH Act.

  • A formal name of the college scholastic ability test of China is P$\check{u}$tongg$\bar{a}$od$\check{e}$ngxu$\acute{e}$xi$\grave{a}$o zh$\bar{a}$osh$\bar{e}$ng Qu$\acute{a}$ngu$\acute{o}$ t$\check{o}$ngy$\bar{i}$k$\check{a}$osh$\grave{i}$(普通高等學校初生全國統一考試), abbreviated to Gaokao(高考). Gaokao is very similar to Korea's College Scholastic Ability Test in that the two exams are measuring test-taker's knowledge and ability included in highschool curriculum and that they are the selective examinations which persons with at least a high school diploma or the equivalent apply for. Therefore, helpful implications for College Scholastic Ability Test of Korea can be drawn from the study of assessment contents and construction of mathematics in Gaokao.

  • Daily workers in construction sites rarely receive the benefit of systematic safety and health training as they are required to move from one construction site to another in response to the start, completion, and repetition of construction works. Also, small- to medium-sized construction sites often lack the capacity to train their workers. Therefore, as in the advanced countries, basic OSH training sheme for construction workers should be conducted in the industrial-level, rather than in individual workplace-level, to make the training more effective. By doing so, only workers with the basic safety training will be able to engage in construction works. Consequently, accidents in the construction industry will decrease, as workers themselves who are at the forefront of the construction worksites are empowered to play the central role in accident prevention activities.

  • Korean industry has achieved dramatic growth in a short time through continuous technical innovations. However, safety consciousness and management have not kept pace with industry growth. The characteristics of industrial accidents in socio-technical systems have become so complicated that it has been challenging for safety professionals to implement effective preventive measures because it is difficult to determine what is happening in the complex workplace. Thus far, they have focused on technical improvements and the requirements of OSH regulations to avoid legal responsibility. Accordingly, this study has used the systemic analysis method to explain the emergence of something unexpected in complex and multi-layered business structures, which is usually related to the variabilities of humans and organizations. This study chose a shipyard where a few fatal accidents had occurred because the shipbuilding industry includes numerous variabilities, including obtaining orders, manpower supply, procurement, etc. Systemic analysis progressed using FRAM based on two accident cases related to the truss platform used in LNG vessels. The outcome shows that each function within the system has its variabilities and has become coupled or dependent on other functions, increasing the possibility of accidents. This analysis method can provide OSH professionals with practical techniques for explaining what is happening in a complex socio-technical system and how to take proper measures.

  • 그동안 관심을 모았던 국제적인 안전보건경영시스템(OSH-MS : Occupational Safety and Health management System)이 국제노동기구(ILO)에 의해 개발되어 발표 되었다. 지난 6우러 "국제노동기구의 안전보건경영시스템 지침(ILO Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems)"이란 제목으로 국제노동기구에서 공개했는데, 이것은 작년부터 국제 노동기구가 2001. 6울에 확정 지침을 발표하겠다고 밝힌 이후 나온 것으로써 지난 2우러 공개한 '안전보건경영체제에 대한 기술지침 초안' (Draft ILO Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems)을 4.19~27일 전문가 회의를 개최를 통해 수정 발표한 것이다. 따라서 이번 호에서는 지난 2월 공개된 초안과 6월에 확정된 지침을 비교하면서 확정지침의 내용을 소개 한다.

  • We first review a real-time holographic recording technique called optical scanning holography (OSH) and discuss holographic reconstruction using spatial light modulators (SLMs). We then present how the overall system can be used for three-dimensional (3-D) holographic television (TV) system and address some of the issues encountered. Finally, we suggest some techniques to alleviate the issues encountered in such a 3-D holographic TV.
