A Simulator for Potential Distribution Analysis

  • This paper proposes a reduced-scale simulator that can replace numerical analytic methods for the estimation of potential distribution caused by ground faults in various grounding systems. The simulator consists of a hemispherical electrolytic tank, a three-dimensional potential probe, a grounding electrode, and a data acquisition module. The potential distribution is measured using a potentiometer with a position-tracing function when a test current flows to the grounding electrode. Using the simulator, we could clearly analyze the potential distribution for a reduced- scale model by one-eightieth of the buried depth and length of the grounding rod and grounding grid. Once both the shape of the grounding electrode and the fault current are known, the actual potential distribution can be estimated.

  • A distributed server cluster system is a cost-effective system to provide a service application for clients with reliable, scalable, available, and fault-tolerant features. In order to provide high quality services, it is necessary to evaluate service performances, tune the server system, and analyze performances. In this paper, we propose a simulator to generate workloads based on statistic configuration according to estimated application traffics, apply workload scheduling algorithms, and evaluate the simulation results. We introduce the simulator design modelling and architecture. By using flexible parameters, the simulator is able to generate various patterns of workloads with different statistics, and configure system environments such as the number of server nodes, system resources considered, and their capacities. With this simulator, we introduce two scenarios: one is to find appropriate thresholds for the best performance of cluster system, and the other is to find the suitable scheduling algorithm for workload characteristics of service applications.

  • The architecture of microprocessor for a embedded system should be one that can perform more tasks with fewer instruction codes. The machine codes that high-level language compiler produces are mainly composed of specific ones, and codes that have small size are more frequently used. Extended Instruction Set Architecture (EISC) was proposed for that reason. We have designed pipe-line system for 64 bit EISC microprocessor. function level simulator was made for verification of design and instruction set architecture was also verified by that simulator. The behavioral function of synthesized logic was verified by comparison with the results of cycle-based simulator.

  • We designed a DSP core simulator with C language, that is able to simulate 5-stage pipelined DSP core, named YS-DSP. It can emulate all 5 stage pipelines in the DSP core. It can also emulate memory access, exception processing, and DSP parallel processing. Each pipeline stage is implemented by combination of one or more functions to process parts of each stage. After modeling and validating the simulator, we can use it to verify and to complement the DSP core HDL model and to enhance its performance.

  • The main features of HILO-3 logic simulator are introduced. It is regarded as one of the most powerful logic simulator available now in electronic industry. The major functions and concepts are reviewed with some examples; circuit description using HDL (Hardware Description Language), waveform description using WDL (Waveform Description Language) and fault-free simulation for static RAM circuit. This program is expected to help the system designers, integrated circuit designers and test engineers.

  • Hydro turbine, steam turbine and their generators can be described by one general model. To realize the turbine simulator, personal computer, D.C. motor and three phase thyristor converter have been used. In the experiments for the improvement of power system stability, that is, steady state, dynamic and transient stability, the characteristics of turbine simulator proposed by this paper have shown that of real prime mover.

  • The dynamic stability of railway vehicle has been one of the important issues in railway safety. The dynamic simulator has been used in the study about the dynamic stability of railway vehicle and wheel/rail interface. Especially, a small scale simulator has been widely used in the fundamental study in the laboratory instead of full scale roller rig which is not cost effective and inconvenient to achieve diverse design parameters. But the technique for the design of the small scale simulator for the fundamental study about the dynamic characteristics of the wheel-rail system and the bogie system has not been well developed in Korea. Therefore, the research about the development of the small scale simulator and the bogie has been conducted. This paper presents the design of the small-scaled derailment simulator and the example design case of a small scale bogie. The simulator could be used in the study about the effect of diverse parameters such as attack angle, wheelbase and cant on dynamic behavior of the bogie and the safety parameter such as derailment coefficient and critical speed.

건설 차량 실시간 그래픽 주행 시뮬레이터 (A Real-Time Graphic Driving Simulator of the Construction Vehicle)

  • A graphic software is one of the most important components of the vehicle simulator. To increase a visual reality of the simulator, the graphic software should require several technologies such as three-dimensional graphics, graphic modeling of the vehicle and the environment, drivers biomechanical models, and real-time data processing. This study presents a real time graphic driving simulator of a construction vehicle. The graphic simulator contains the three models of the construction vehicle, the human, and the environment, and employes a neural network approach to decrease an on-line dynamic computation. An excavator model is represented using an object-oriented paradigm and contains the detailed information about a real-size vehicle. The human model is introduced for objective visual evaluations of the developed excavator model. Since the environment model plays an important role in a real-time simulator, a block-based approach is implemented and a text format is utilized for easier construction of environment. The simulation results are illustrated in order to demonstrate the applicability of developed models and the neural network approach.

  • Most rail system related simulators currently used are designed to simulate only one discipline system. This obviously assumes the other discipline systems are running regularly not being affected by the system being simulated. In this paper a multi discipline simulator is proposed and its design concept is presented. A multi discipline simulator is the simulator in which major subsystems with different technical discipline are simulated simultaneously. The advantage of the simulator is in that it makes it possible to analyze the systems behavior while other discipline system vary. With this we can identify the possible multi-discipline problems and even find their solutions. A proto type simulator has been developed using object oriented programming. Object concept was judged best suitable to model the various multi-discipline self-controlling railway subsystems. It was applied to the target system, which is under development by the Korea Railroad Research Institute. The test results shows it is very useful in designn verification. It could also be a good tool in research and development work to improve the system.

LabVIEW를 이용한 그린 홈 시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of a Green Home Simulator using LabVIEW)

  • In this paper, we developed a green home simulator using LabVIEW for house designers or users to assess energy saving costs in an easy and direct way. The LabVIEW simulator has a strong graphic user interface, which is intuitive to general users. Therefore, the developed simulator enables one to gather information on electric power consumed in its house and to calculate efficiency for installing green energy generators such as solar and wind power generators. As an actual application, we simulate and compare the efficiencies of installing green energy generators at various cities and seasons using the developed LabVIEW simulator. The simulation results confirm that energy saving effects of green energies are easy to calculate by the proposed green home simulator.
