Performance Enhancement of Multi-Band OFDM using Spectrum Equalizer

  • In this paper, the equalization for frequency slope of path loss in Multi-Band(MB) OFDM UWB is proposed. The path loss of a signal is proportionate to the square of the signal's frequency. So, the received signal amplitudes of OFDM subcarrier can be different up to 3dB when MB-OFDM occupies bandwidth over 1.5GHz. The differences of subcarrier-amplitudes make an effective of 0.3 bit reduction of soft decision bits of viterbi decoder, and when the effective of 0.3 bit reduction can cause 0.5dB SNR degradation. This paper proposes two modem architectures which compensate for the degraded subcarrier by multiplying the reciprocal of degraded values in analog or digital domain. It is shown that, for the proposed architecture applied to MB-OFDM UWB, the performance improvements up to 0.5dB can be obtained over the conventional uncompensated receiver architecture.

  • The OFDM with LS signal detection performs worse in fast time varying channels as the channel matrix has higher chance of becoming ill-conditioned. Various regularization methods are applied to avoid performance degradation in LS signal detection. In this paper, we proposed a CGLS method with the stopping criteria imposed by the characteristics of the modulation method, which shows performance comparable to that of the optimal LMMSE.

  • 고속으로 데이터를 전송하는 변조방법인 OFDM은 각 서브채널의 상태가 서로 다름에도 불구하고 같은 양의 데이터를 전송하게 되며 이때 일부 채널의 상태가 매우 나쁨에도 불구하고 같은 양의 데이터를 보내게 된다면 시스템의 성능은 나빠지게 된다. 본 논문에서는 Bitloading 알고리듬을 이용하여, 서브 채널의 상태에 따라 데이터 량을 조절할 수 있는 OFDM 시스템을 구현하고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능을 입증하였다.

  • In this paper, an interchannel interference (ICI) and symbol error probability for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) on the two-ray fading environment are obtained analytically. From the analysis results, it is found that the ICI is a Gaussian random variable and its variance depends on the subchannel location, normalized time delay, and the number of subchannels. In addition, the OFDM signal without guard interveal is found to yield an irreducible error even at high signal to noise ratio due to the ICI.

  • 본 논문에서 제안한 OFDM 시스템은 대역 사용 효율을 높이기 위하여 순환 접두부를 두지 않고 심볼을 전송한다. 그로 인해 존재하는 채널간의 간섭과 심볼간의 간섭을 제거하기 위해 DFE를 사용한 등화 기법을 제안하고, 다중 경로가 존재하는 무선 채널 환경에서의 기존의 순환 접두부를 사용하는 OFDM 시스템과 제안한 시스템을 모의 실험을 통해 각 시스템의 성능을 비교 분석한다.

  • OFDM is popular digital communication method due to its immunity to multipath fading and capability of high speed data transmission, but it has disadvantage of high PAPR in transmission signal when many subcarrier modulated signal are added to the same phase. When frequency domain high amplitude impulse is inserted before IFFT in OFDM transmitter, the PAPR of OFDM signal in tme domain can be effectively reduced. In this paper, the degree of PAPR improvement of OFDM communication system with CQAM subcarrier modulation is analysed by adopting impulse insertion technique before IFFT of transmitter. Furthermore, it is verified that additional PAPR performance improvement can be obtained by finding optimum position of impulse insertion for maximizing PAPR reduction. Through computer simulation, the degree of PAPR improvement according to amplitude and position of inserted impulse is superior to conventional technique in OFDM-CQAM system.

  • In this paper, we propose an OFDM-Based SSB System using DCT and DHT transform. The proposed system presents the same waveform as the SSB modulation. The proposed system generates SSB spectrum which are USB and LSB spectrum, also the proposed system can transmit PAM signal through USB and the other PAM signal through LSB. Additionally, we propose how to resolve the center frequency interference problem between USB and LSB. We confirm the simulation result by MATLAB program. The simulation result show the proposed system can transmit PAM signal through only half of spectrum of conventional OFDM system.

  • Recently many communication systems ate adapting the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) for multimedia data services. However, OFDM has some problems that PAPR is increased when sub-carries are summed up with same phases. This problem causes severe signal distortions while the signal is passing through non-linear system such as power amplifier resulting in performance degradation of transmission system. In this paper, we use IF-Clipping method to solve PAPR problem and the signal distortion caused by clipping is limited by use of SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filter and power amplifier(TWTA). And we derive the optimal parameter(PAPR, Backoff) values to meet the spectrum mask of WiBro system.

  • 현재 무선 이동통신의 발달로 고속 신뢰성 높은 데이터 전송을 요구하고 있다. 그러나 무선 이동통신 환경은 데이터 전송 시 지연과 간섭 등에 의해 주파수 선택성 페이딩을 가진다. OFDM은 주파수 선택성 페이딩에 영향을 받는 통신 시스템에서 채용되는 강력한 기술이다. OFDM에 적응 변조와 함께 송수신기에 다중의 안테나를 설치함으로서 채널 지연 확산에 강력히 대응한다. 본 논문의 연구는 MIMO 시스템에 적용된 적응 변조를 가진 OFDM이다. OFDM 각 서브채널의 상태에 따라 최적의 비트값을 할당하고 전력을 제어한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 적응비트로딩 MIMO-OFDM 시스템을 사용하면 현재의 시스템보다 더 좋은 BER을 가지며 고속 통신할 수 있다.

Performance Evaluation of Space Time Frequency OFDM System using Super-Orthogonal Space Time Trellis Code Transmission Matrix (Super-Orthogonal STTC 전송 행렬을 이용한 STF-OFDM 시스템의 성능 평가)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to detect the signal and evaluate performance of the system in frequency selective fading channel. We combine proposed system with OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to improve performance of the system. First, we study the SOSTTC-OFDM system using two transmit antenna and one receive antenna, and compare performance of the proposed space-time coded OFDM with that of previous system. We expand this system to the system using four transmit antennas with the proposed decoding method. Simulation results show that the proposed decoding method can detect the signal efficiently, and we identify that the performance of the proposed system is shown with varying doppler frequency in frequency selective fading channel.
