  • This is an analysis of international mobile displays industry. There has been severe competition in market and technology. In technology, There has been competition between Japan, USA and Korea. On the other hand, there has been competition in the products market between Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Recently Korea has catched-up Japan in mid-size display industry. The response of Japanese firms are as follows: technological collaboration with Taiwanese firms in mid-size and concentration in small and large size displays. New competition, however, has started, since new technologies such as TFT-LCD and OELD have been used in products.

  • 절연성 기판 위에 단결정이 아닌 반도체 박막을 이용하여 만든 전계효과 (Field Effect FET) 소자로 일반적으로 정의되는 박막 트랜지스터 (Thin Film Transistor, TFT)는 1962 RCA lab.의 Weimer에 제안되어 지금까지 많은 발전을 거듭해 왔다. Preparation and Properties of Organic Electroluminescent Devices Using Low Molecule Compounds (저분자 화합물을 이용한 유기 전계발광소자의 제작과 특성 연구)

  • The multi-layered OELDs(organic electroluminescent devices) were prepared on the patterened ITO (indium tin oxide)/glass substrates by the vacuum thermal evaporation method. The $Alq_3$ (tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum) low molecule compound was used as the light emission layer. TPD(triphenyl-diamine) and $\alpha-NPD$ were used as the hole transport layer. CuPc (Copper phthalocyanine) was also used as the hole injection layers. In addition, QD2 (quinacridone2) organic material with $10\AA$ thickness was deposited in the $Alq_3$ emission layer to improve the luminance efficiency. The threshold voltage was about 7V for all devices. The luminance and efficiency of devices was improved by substitution the $\alpha-NPD$ for TPD as the hole as the hole transport layer. The luminance efficiency of the OELD sample with QD2 thin film in the $Alq_3$ emission layer was found to be 1.55 lm/W, which is about 8 times larger value compared to the sample without QD2 thin layer.

  • Oganic electroluminescent devices (OELD) with multilayer structures have been studied actively for the application to a flat-panel display. Netal-chelate complexes hrboxylate. These complexes were characterized by FT-IR, MS/FAB, $^1$H-NMR, UV-vis and photoluminescence (PL). More importantly, the electrochemical gap (Eg), electron affinity(EA) and ionization potential (IP) of these complex films were investigated. Data from cyclic voltammetry(CV) were compared with the bandgap obtained from UV-vis and discussed. Further studies on the EL of these new materials are now in progress.

  • The capacitance-temperature (C-T) measurement technique is proposed in the present work to investigate the thermal stability of organic and polymeric thin films for organic electroluminescent display (OELD). The single layer devices with the individual materials were subjected to the C-T measurement, prior to the examination of the complete OELD. The single layer devices with the small molecules destroyed below $180\;^{\circ}C$ depending on the kinds of materials. However, the device with the hole-transporting polyimide did not show any relaxation up to $200\;^{\circ}C$. The small molecule based OELDs failed to emit light after annealing, whereas that with the hole-transporting polyimide worked well in spite of large reduction in intensity.

  • In this study, organic electroluminescent devices(OELD) with a structure of a glass $substrate/ITO/TPD/Tb(ACAC)_3(Phen-Cl)/Alq_3/Al$ was fabricated by vacuum evaporation method, where Tb complex was known to have green light emitting property. Electroluminescent(EL) and I-V characteristics of this structure were investigated. This triple-layer structure shows the green EL spectrum at the wavelwngth of 546nm, which is almost the same as the PL spectrum of $Pb(ACAC)_3(Phen_Cl)$. It was found in current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of the devices that the operating voltage was about 12V.

  • 본 연구에서는 ITO (indium tin oxide) /glass 투명기판 위에 다층구조의 OELD 소자를 진공 열증착법으로 제작하였다. 상부 전극과 하부 전극의 종류에 따른 전류밀도-전압 특성을 측정하였으며, 열적 안정성이 다른 정공 수송충을 사용하여 소자를 제작하고 전기ㆍ광학적 특성을 측정하였다. 사용된 저분자 유기화합물은 발광층으로 녹색의 발광을 가지는 Alq₃(tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum)를 사용하였고 정공수송 및 주입층으로는 TPD(triphenyl diamine), α-NPD 그리고 CuPc (Copper phthalocyanine)를 각각 증착하였다. 하부 전극으로 사용된 ITO 투명전극은 면저항이 적을수록 전류밀도가 증가하는 것을 볼 수 있고, 상부 전극의 종류에 따른 전류밀도-전압 특성을 분석한 결과 일함수가 낮은 전극일수륵 전류밀도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 유리전이온도(Tg)가 상대적으로 높은 재료인 α-NPD를 정공수송충으로 사용한 경우 더 양호한 특성을 나타내었다.

Change of Internal Resistance of OLED Devices during Operation

  • The luminance and operating voltage were measured during OLED operation for the purpose of analyzing the efficiency and change of internal resistance. The half lifetime of OLED was affected by degradation of OLED due to heat generated by ambient temperature and self heating. The operating voltage constantly increased due to the increase of internal resistance. The half lifetime of OLED driven by constant current source was found to be longer than that of the OELD driven by constant voltage and the reasons were clearly explained in this paper.

  • In this study, It is to synthesize PPV-copolymer and to make polymer electroluminesence device in single layer of ITO/PPV -copolymer/metal. and then it has been realized basic characteristics for display device through analysis and recognized application possibility by luminous material. PPV-copolymer is used spin coating method and electrode is evaporated of vacuum deposition method by changing materials. The result of experiment, The PPV-copolymer used this study emitted blue color, could be discovered a change of emttion characteristic by electrode material.

  • Organic electroluminesencent device have been studied because of its easy fabrication and high brightness for plate panel display instead of CRT and LED. There are some device structure for full color filter system can be applicable to the full color application if the blue light organic electroluminesencent device(OELD) is developed. In this study, We have investigated electro-luminescent (EL) characteristics of organic EL device using Alq3, PBD as emitting material. Current and luminance can be seen that express a similar relativity in voltage and could know that luminance is expressing current relativity.
