Animal-Hide Clothing and Decorative Arts of the Oroqen People

  • The Oroqen (鄂伦春) traditional costume refers to what the nomadic Oroqen people used to wear before they settled into fixed communities. With very limited contact with the outside world and with limited resources, the clothing material was virtually entirely animal hide. With settlement, especially after 1996, animal hide clothing has declined among the Oroqen. As an important part of Oroqen tradition and culture, the Oroqen people keep endevoring to promote costume design through competition and exhibitions. Therefore, this paper seeks to present an insightful understanding of Oroqen culture and the formative features of their general clothing. We explored the formative features of Oroqen animal hide clothing based on an analysis of actual artifacts and literature. As a result, the characteristics of Oroqen hide clothing were found in five types - coats, trousers, hats, shoes, gloves. For the decoration, embroidery and applique were their way of decoration, and Mother Nature was their source of pattern design.

Reprocessing of simulated voloxidized uranium-oxide SNF in the CARBEX process

  • The concept of a new method, the CARBEX (CARBonate EXtraction) process, was proposed for reprocessing of spent uranium oxide fuel. The proposed process is based on use of water solutions of $Na_2CO_3$ or $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ and solvent extraction (SE) by the quaternary ammonium compounds for selective recovery and purification of U from the fission products (FPs). Applying of SE allows to reach high degree of purification of U from FPs. Carrying out the processes in poorly aggressive alkaline carbonate media leads to increasing safety of SNF's reprocessing and better selectivity of separation of lanthanides and actinides. Moreover carbonate reprocessing media allows to carry out a recycling and regeneration of reagents. We have been done laboratory scale experiments on the extraction components of simulated voloxidated spent fuel in the solutions of NaOH or $Na_2CO_3-H_2O_2$ and recovery of U from carbonate solutions by SE method using carbonate of methyltrioctylammonium in toluene. It was shown that the purification factors of U from impurities of simulated FPs reached values $10^3-10^5$. The received results support our opinion that CARBEX after the further development can become more safe, simple and profitable method of spent fuel reprocessing.

A Short Review on the Chemistry, Pharmacological Properties and Patents of Obovatol and Obovatal (Neolignans) from Magnolia obovata

  • This short review on the chemistry, pharmacological properties and patents of obovatol and obovatal from Magnolia obovata is the first publication. Pharmacological properties are focused on anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet and neuroprotective activities. Obovatol and obovatal were first isolated from the leaves of M. obovata. Also reported in the bark and fruits of M. obovata, obovatol and obovatal are neolignans i.e., biphenolic compounds bearing a C-O coupling. Other classes of compounds isolated and identified from M. obovata include sesquiterpene-neolignans, dineolignans, trineolignan, lignans, dilignans, phenylpropanoids, phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, phenolic acids, alkaloids, sesquiterpenes, ketone and sterols. The anti-cancer properties of obovatol and obovatal involve apoptosis, inhibition of the growth, migration and invasion of cancer cell lines. However, obovatol displays cytotoxicity against cancer cells but not obovatal. Similarly, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet, neuroprotective, anxiolytic and other pharmacological activities were only observed in obovatol. The disparity in pharmacological properties of obovatol and obovatal may be attributed to the -CHO group present in obovatal but absent in obovatol. From 2007 to 2013, eight patents were published on obovatol with one mentioning obovatal. They were all published at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by scientists of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) as inventors and assignee, respectively. Some future research and prospects are suggested.

Experimental and theoretical justification of passive heat removal system for irradiated fuel assemblies of the nuclear research reactor in a spent fuel pool

  • The safety of nuclear installations is largely determined by the tightness of fuel elements cladding. As the Fukushima nuclear accident showed, the main task in case of loss of power supply is to ensure reliable removal of residual heat release from spent fuel pool (SFP) with irradiated fuel assemblies (IFAs). The paper presents the results of calculated-experimental studies and thermal-hydraulic modeling of temperature storage modes of IFAs in SFP. Experimental studies of SFP's temperature regime and calculated evaluation of residual heat removal due to the thermal conductivity of building structures surrounding the SFP were performed. To ensure the safe operation of research reactors, it's necessary to know the IFA's residual heat power (RHP) in the reactor and SFP, which is determined depending on the operating time of fuel assemblies (FAs) and the IFAs calculated holding time. The FAs operating time depends on the reactor energy output. The IFAs calculated holding time is determined by the fuel burnup, U-235 mass in the fuel, and reactor utilization factor. The IFAs fuel burnup was calculated using the MCU-PTR program. Also presented are the RHP's calculation results using some of the empirical dependencies. The concept of a passive heat removal system (PHRS) based on thermosyphon's operating principle was proposed.

  • ZnO:Al 투명전도막을 유리기판위에 in-line RF-magnetron sputtering법으로 증착온도 및 증착압력에 따라 제조하고, 습식식각에 따른 박막의 표면형상 및 광학적 특성변화를 조사하였다. 초기박막은 육방정계(Hexanonal wurtzite)의 결정 구조와 (002)면의 c-축 우선배향성을 갖으며 가시광 영역에서 높은 광 투과도(T $\geq$ 80%)와 낮은 비저항($\rho\;=\;5.2{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$)의 특성을 나타내었다. 습식 식각 후 박막의 표면형상은 식각 전 박막의 결정성에 큰 의존성을 보이며 본 연구에서는 1 mTorr의 낮은 증착압력과 $350^{\circ}C$의 높은 증착온도에서 증착된 결정성이 우수한 막에서 높고 균일한 형태의 crater를 갖는 표면형상을 얻을 수 있었다. 균일한 crater를 형성하는 ZnO:Al 박막은 hill 형태의 표면형상을 갖는 상용 Asahi-U glass에 비하여 높은 Haze ($T_{diffused}/T_{total}$)값과 넓은 산란각을 나타내어 향상된 광 산란특성을 갖으며 이는 실리콘 박막 태양전지내로 입사된 광의 산란경로를 증가시켜 태양전지 성능을 크게 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • 가스센서는 응용 분야와 기능 및 종류가 다양하고 최첨단 분야로서 학문적으로는 물리, 화학, 전기, 전자 및 기계 등의 배경을 필요로 하며 산업적으로는 공업 전 분야와 농림, 축산, 사무기기에서 뿐만 아니라 공해 방진용(자동차 연소제어 및 배출가스 제어, 대기오염 감시등), 민생용(조리, 환기, 공조 등), 교통 보안용(음주운전측정 및 음주운전 방지장치 등), 방재용(가스 누설 탐지기, 불완전 연소 방지, 산소 결핍, 화재 등), 의료용(호기, 마취가스의 분석 등) 매우 광범위하며 점점 더 확대되어 가고 있다. 본 연구에서는 검출 가스 종류에 따라 졸-겔법으로 감응막을 최적 설계하고, 최적으로 설계된 감응막을 디핑법으로 코팅처리한 후 최적으로 열처리하여 센서를 제작하였다. 또한, 자체 제작한 가스검출 시스템에 제작된 센서를 장착하여 센서의 가스 검출 특성을 측정하고, 측정 데이터를 이용하여 휴대용 가스 검출 시스템을 설계 제작하였다.

생쥐 난자의 체외 성숙에 미치는 Melatonin의 영향 (Effects of Melatonin on the Meiotic Maturation of Mouse Oocytes in vitro)

  • Objective: Melatonin, which is secreted by pineal gland play an important role in the regulation of ovarian function via seasonal rhythm and sleep in most mammals. It also has a role in the protection of cells by removing toxic oxygen free radicals brought about by metabolism. In the present study, effects of melatonin on the mouse oocyte maturation were examined using two different culture conditions provided with 5% or 21% oxygen concentration. Material and Method: Immature mouse oocytes were obtained from the ovarian follicles of $3{\sim}4$ weeks old ICR strain mice intraperitoneally injected with 5 I.U. PMSG 44 hour before. Under stereomicroscope, morphologically healthy oocytes with distinct germinal vesicle (GV) were liberated from the graafian follicles and collected using mouth-controlled micropipette. They were then cultured for 17 hour at $37^{circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$ and 21% $O_2$ (95% air) or 5% $CO_2$, 5% $O_2$ and 90% $N_2$. New modified Hank's balanced salt solution (New MHBS) was used as a culture medium throughout the experiments. Effects of melatonin were examined at a concentration of $0.0001{\mu}M$, $0.01{\mu}M$ or $1.0{\mu}M$. For the prevention of spontaneous maturation of immature oocytes during culture, dibutyryl cyclic AMP (dbcAMP) and/or hypoxanthine were included in the medium. Results: Under 21% oxygen condition, oocytes cultured in the presence of $0.01{\mu}M$ melatonin showed a significantly higher maturation rates, in terms of germinal vesicle breakdown (95.0% vs 89.0%) and polar body formation (88.1% vs 75.4%), compared to those cultured with $0.0001{\mu}M$ or $1.0{\mu}M$ melatonin. However, no difference was observed in oocytes cultured under 5% oxygen whether they were treated with melatonin or not. In the presence of $0.01{\mu}M$ melatonin, oocytes either cultured under 21% or 5% oxygen exhibited no difference in the polar body formation (85.6% vs 86.7%). However, in the absence of melatonin, oocytes cultured under 21% oxygen exhibited lower polar body formation (74.7%). When oocytes were cultured in the presence of dbcAMP alone or with varying concentrations of melatonin, those treated with both compounds always showed better maturation, i.e., germinal vesicle breakdown and polar body formation, compared to those cultured with dbcAMP alone. At the same concentration of melatonin, however, oocytes exposed to 21% oxygen showed poor maturation than those to 5% oxygen. Similar results were obtained from the experiments using hypoxanthine instead of dbcAMP. Conclusion: Based upon these results, it is suggested that melatonin could enhance the meiotic maturation of mouse oocytes under 21% oxygen concentration, and release oocytes from the meiotic arrest by dbcAMP or hypoxanthine regardless of the concentration of oxygen, probably via the removal of oxygen free radicals.

Improvement of Electrical Characteristics in Double Gate a-IGZO Thin Film Transistor

  • 최근 고성능 디스플레이 개발이 요구되면서 기존 비정질 실리콘(a-Si)을 대체할 산화물 반도체에 대한 연구 관심이 급증하고 있다. 여러 종류의 산화물 반도체 중 a-IGZO (amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide)가 높은 전계효과 이동도, 저온 공정, 넓은 밴드갭으로 인한 투명성 등의 장점을 가지며 가장 연구가 활발하게 보고되고 있다. 기존에는 SG(단일 게이트) TFT가 주로 제작 되었지만 본 연구에서는 DG(이중 게이트) 구조를 적용하여 고성능의 a-IGZO 기반 박막 트랜지스터(TFT)를 구현하였다. SG mode에서는 하나의 게이트가 채널 전체 영역을 제어하지만, double gate mode에서는 상, 하부 두 개의 게이트가 동시에 채널 영역을 제어하기 때문에 채널층의 형성이 빠르게 이루어지고, 이는 TFT 스위칭 속도를 향상시킨다. 또한, 상호 모듈레이션 효과로 인해 S.S(subthreshold swing)값이 낮아질 뿐만 아니라, 상(TG), 하부 게이트(BG) 절연막의 계면 산란 현상이 줄어들기 때문에 이동도가 향상되고 누설전류 감소 및 안정성이 향상되는 효과를 얻을 수 있다. Dual gate mode로 동작을 시키면, TG(BG)에는 일정한 positive(or negative)전압을 인가하면서 BG(TG)에 전압을 가해주게 된다. 이 때, 소자의 채널층은 depletion(or enhancement) mode로 동작하여 다른 전기적인 특성에는 영향을 미치지 않으면서 문턱 전압을 쉽게 조절 할 수 있는 장점도 있다. 제작된 소자는 p-type bulk silicon 위에 thermal SiO2 산화막이 100 nm 형성된 기판을 사용하였다. 표준 RCA 클리닝을 진행한 후 BG 형성을 위해 150 nm 두께의 ITO를 증착하고, BG 절연막으로 두께의 SiO2를 300 nm 증착하였다. 이 후, 채널층 형성을 위하여 50 nm 두께의 a-IGZO를 증착하였고, 소스/드레인(S/D) 전극은 BG와 동일한 조건으로 ITO 100 nm를 증착하였다. TG 절연막은 BG 절연막과 동일한 조건에서 SiO2를 50 nm 증착하였다. TG는 S/D 증착 조건과 동일한 조건에서, 150 nm 두께로 증착 하였다. 전극 물질과, 절연막 물질은 모두 RF magnetron sputter를 이용하여 증착되었고, 또한 모든 patterning 과정은 표준 photolithography, wet etching, lift-off 공정을 통하여 이루어졌다. 후속 열처리 공정으로 퍼니스에서 질소 가스 분위기, $300^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 30 분 동안 진행하였다. 결과적으로 $9.06cm2/V{\cdot}s$, 255.7 mV/dec, $1.8{\times}106$의 전계효과 이동도, S.S, on-off ratio값을 갖는 SG와 비교하여 double gate mode에서는 $51.3cm2/V{\cdot}s$, 110.7 mV/dec, $3.2{\times}108$의 값을 나타내며 훌륭한 전기적 특성을 보였고, dual gate mode에서는 약 5.22의 coupling ratio를 나타내었다. 따라서 산화물 반도체 a-IGZO TFT의 이중게이트 구조는 우수한 전기적 특성을 나타내며 차세대 디스플레이 시장에서 훌륭한 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

$TiS_2$ Composite/SPE/Li Cell의 충방전에 따른 AC 임피던스의 변화 (Variation of AC Impedance of the $TiS_2$ Composite/SPE/Li Cell with Cycling)

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop $TiS_2$ composite cathode for lithium polymer battery(LPB). $TiS_2$ electrode represent a class of insertion positive electrode used in Li secondary batteries. In this study, we investigated preparation of $TiS_2$ composite cathode and AC impedance response of $TiS_2$ composite/SPE/Li cells as a function of state of charge(SOC) and cycling. The resistance of B type cell using $TiS_2PEO_8LiClO_4PC_5EC_5$ composite cathode was lower than that of A type cell using $TiS_2PEO$ composite cathode. The cell resistance of B type cell is high for the first few percent discharge, decreases for midium discharge and then increases again toward the end of discharge. We believe the magnitude of the cell resistance is dominated by passivation layer impedance and small cathode resistance. AC impedance results indicate that the cell internal resistance increase with cycling, and this is attributed to change of passivation layer impedance with cycling. The passivation layer resistance($R_f$) of B type cell decreases for the 2nd cycling and then increases again with cycling. Redox coulombic efficiency of B type cell was about 141% at 1st cycle and 100% at 12th cycle. Also, $TiS_2$ specific capacity was 115 mAh/g at 12 cycle.

자기장하의 액체금속 유동의 차압 측정 (MHD Pressure Drop of a Liquid-Metal Flow under a Transverse Magnetic Field)

  • The magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) pressure drop along a liquid sodium flow was measured in a rectangular duct under a transverse magnetic field. The test section was made of a 3 mm thick stainless steel SUS304 with a $74{\times}5mm^2$ rectangular flow channel. The range of experimental parameters was roughly B=0${\sim}$0.18T and U=0${\sim}$0.9m/s at around $200^{\circ}C$. The differential pressure was measured by a diaphragm seal-type pressure transmitter filled with a high temperature silicon oil within 0.1MPa. The experimental results show a similar pressure drop with the theoretical estimation according to a change of the flow velocity and the magnetic field.
