  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of simulation-based practice education on critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence. Using the method of one-group pretest-posttest experimental research, this study selected total 70 nursing students (3rd year) as research subjects. The final research subjects were total 63 students excluding seven people with insufficient responses. From March to April 2023, total eight sessions of simulation practice education (4 hours per session) were conducted once a week. In the effects of the program, the critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence were measured. Using the SPSS Window Version 25.0, the critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence were analyzed through the mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test. In the results of this study, the critical thinking disposition (t=-10.61, p<.001), clinical performance ability (t=-3.06, p=.003), and self-confidence (t=-15.97, p<.001) were statistically significant. In the results of analyzing the correlations of clinical performance ability, and self-confidence after the simulation practice education, the learning satisfaction showed significantly positive correlation with immersion (r= .647, p<.001). The results of this study verified the improvement of critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence of nursing students after the simulation-based practice education. Thus, it would be necessary to develop the educational contents for various subjects, and also to expansively apply the simulation practice education.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the attributes of the concept of clinical performance skills in simulation-based practical training and to organize them in order to establish theoretical foundations for clinical competence. The research method employed was the concept analysis process of Walker and Avant (2011). Papers related to clinical competence published between January 2000 and April 2023 were selected by searching various databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Ovid-Medline, DBpia, KISS, and others. The attributes of clinical competence were found to be (1) the clinical competence of knowledge, judgment, and skills, (2) Adaptability to Changing Healthcare Environment (3) the ability to perform nursing roles appropriately in response to the demands of nursing subjects. This study is significant as a concept analysis study that recognizes the importance of nursing from a nursing perspective in a situation where research on clinical competence is active in simulation-based training. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop training programs and tools including the attributes of clinical competence in simulation nursing education and to measure the effectiveness of the programs using them. nursing perspective in a situation where research on clinical competence is active. • This study was undertaken to analyze the intervening effect of nursing simulation among nursing students. This was a critical review study, and data obtained were reviewed using various data bases, including RISS, KISS, NDSL, DBpia, and KRI. The terminologies entered in the data base were nursing and simulation. Selected studies were assessed for methodological quality; and narrative, descriptive or one group post-test studies were excluded from the analysis. Ed. Notes: Please review for accuracy. I have suggested the edit to the best of my understanding. Finally, 234 studies were included for investigation. Results included studies of nursing simulation intervention in Korea, commencing from 2008. One group pre-post test and two group post test were more designed in journals comparing to master thesis or doctoral dissertation. Clinical practice was the most frequently studied aspect by both the assessor and student in the two groups' pre-post test design. Nursing competences associated with dependent variables during simulation were integrated skills, critical thinking, communication, cooperation, professional recognition and leadership. The two groups pre-post design explored more varied competences as compared to other designs. Considering the results obtained, we conclude that simulation intervention is an effective teaching method for nursing students to help improve their clinical practice. However, further studies are required to assess the impact of critical thinking and problem solving.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to test whether Health Communication Assessment Tool (HCAT) developed by Campbell et al. in 2013 can be applied to assess Korean nursing students' communication skills in simulation education. Methods: The content validity of the Korean version of HCAT (K-HCAT) was evaluated through expert's assessment and a principal component analysis was conducted for testing construct validity. The convergent validity was tested by measuring relationship between the K-HCAT and those of existing communication assessment tool for standardized patient instruction. The evaluation was done by surveying 154 senior students from four different nursing colleges. Results: The K-HCAT was condensed into 15 items from the original 22 HCAT items. Four factors were extracted from the principal component analysis; factor loadings ranged from .50 to .83; cumulative explained variance was 62.65%. Four factors were entitled as 'relationship building', 'empowering', 'empathy/response', and 'education/feedback'. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for sub-dimensions ranged from .73 to .84. An evaluation of convergent validity showed that the scores of the K-HCAT were moderately correlated with those of an assessment tool for standardized patient instruction. Conclusion: The K-HCAT can be used as an effective tool for assessing nursing students' communication skills in various kinds of simulation educations Further research is needed to test the consistency of the K-HCAT.
