Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze trends in complementary and alternative therapy in nursing research in Korea. Method: The researchers examined academic theses and dissertations published from 1990 to 2002, and 151 articles were used for the analysis. Result: Nursing research on CAT increased rapidly from 1995 Articles with quantitative research designs made up 93.9% of the total and there were more experimental studies than non-experimental studies. Patients who had surgery, mental disorders, renal failure, hypertension, arthritis, dementia & cancer were the most frequently participants in studies on CAT. The type of CAT used in nursing research were mind-body therapy (65.8%), manual healing therapy (28.7%), phamacologic & biological therapy (3.7%), bioelectromagnetics (0.9%) and herbal therapy (0.9%). In 44 articles both psychological and physiological parameters were used as dependent variables. In 34 articles only physiological parameters were used and in 13 only psychological parameters. The most frequently used physiological parameters in CAT were pain, physiological function and vital signs, while the most used psychological parameters were anxiety, depression and stress. Conclusion: More studies about CAT are needed to extend the role and fields for professional nursing. There is a need to conduct qualitative studies in nursing about the experiences of patients who receive CAT and nurses who use CAT.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of research on intervention using adiponectin and to find the utilization in nursing. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted. From 2005 to 2009, the articles were searched electronically using the data base with the key words of adiponectin. The criteria for inclusion in review were 1) an randomized clinical trial (RCT), 2) human, 3) English or Korean language. Finally, 89 articles (41 domestic studies, 48 foreign studies) were included in the review. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) In domestic studies, subjects of obesity were 80.5%, and the most frequently used intervention were exercise (95.1%). 2) In foreign studies, there were interventions for subjects of obesity (55.1%), and diabetes (25.0%). 66.7% of studies were in medicine including 56.3% on medicine/hormone therapy. 3) Adiponectin was significantly increased in 31 domestic studies and 33 foreign studies. Conclusion: It needs to understand the influence of Adiponectin in nursing research and practice. The practical use of Adiponectin has to be considered in a sense that it may help determining the direction of the nursing research to provide more objective evidence for nursing practice.
This study examined all the research published in Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing (JKAN) for last 30 years, from its beginning year to year 1999, based on an objective frame of evaluation. The purpose of this study is to reflect the trend of nursing research in Korea to date, and to provide an optimal direction for future research. The total number of 959 studies were analyzed with the following results. 1. Since 1990s, the number of non-degree based research has been larger than that of degree-based research compared to 1970s and 1980s. Both collaborative and funded research has been particularly increased in a gradual rate. 2. Research on nurses or nursing students has decreased while research on more diverse populations such as patients, patient families, or community-dwelling healthy clients has increased. 3. While essential nursing concepts such as human, nursing, and health have been consistently dealt as main research topics, research related to the concept of environ- ment has been insufficiently conducted. 4. It was remarkable that the quality of nursing research has been improved due to the acknowledgement of the importance of the empirical research method within the nursing community. 5. Qualitative research has appeared in the journal since the late 1990s, but it is still regarded to be in its novice stage. 6. Although the utilization of research findings for expanding the nursing body of knowledge has been wide in diverse specialties, most studies are limited to focus on concept development or evolution yet. also, in some of these research finding are utilization already considerably as to develop nursing interventions. Based on these findings, conclusions are extended to the following discussions: For the last 30 years, nursing research in Korea has shown an acute methodological development in both quantity and quality. However, there has been a lack of research on theory development although it is one of the ultimate goals in nursing. Further research should be empirical enough to be utilized in an actual nursing care context, and thus to be basis of developing culturally competent nursing theories in Korea.
Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the trend in research by analyzing previous studies related to the case management of Medicaid and to explore the direction of future research. Methods: Thirty three studies conducted from January 2003 to June 2015 were analyzed according to characteristics of researchers and subjects, research methods, measurable variables, and key words. Results: Of the studies analyzed, 69.7% were conducted on Medicaid beneficiaries, and 65.6% were conducted on the group of high risk for over medical utilization. The mainly used research design was a survey study design, which was 51.5% of them, followed by experimental (24.2%), and qualitative (12.1%) study design. Most frequently measured variables were medical utilization (62.5%), needs for case management (41.7%), and health status (25.0%). The topics most frequently studied were related to medical utilization, effect of case management, self-care, and program development in Medicaid beneficiaries and job and socio-psychological factors in case managers. Conclusion: The future direction of nursing research in Medicaid case management is to be vitalized through the expansion of the research population, and concretization and diversification of the research topics. In addition, conduct of further studies on intervention strategies and contents for improving quality of case management program is also needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of research on clonorchis sinensis in Korea. Method: The study design was a literature analysis in which research studies with 'Clonorchis' in the title were collected from 2001 to 2007. A total of 115 research studies were analyzed based on the year of publication, study design, major or institute of researcher, study sample, and research theme. Results: 10-19% of the research studies were published each year from 2001 to 2007. Experimental study design was the most frequent at 54.8%. Medicine or parasitology as the major of researchers were 43.2% and 41.2% retrospectively, but no nursing studies were found. For study samples, 65.9% were cyst larvae and animals, followed by human beings (29.5%). In research theme, the structure and gene analysis of clonorchis sinensis was the most frequent (32.1%), followed by animal experimental studies (15.7%), epidemic studies of clonorchis sinensis prevalence and changes (13.0%), and methods of diagnosis of clonorchis sinensis and effectiveness (12.2%). Conclusion: Although positive rate of clonorchis sinensis is still high, intervention studies for managing clonorchis sinensis were not found. So, methodological research developing clonorchis sinensis management program and intervention study is needed for high risk groups in rural communities.

This short review provides an overview of the state of the science of salivary biomarkers utilized in research related to stress. Methods: An integrative review was conducted. Results: The trend of utilizing salivary biomarkers in stress research was reviewed, specifically, focusing on the use of endocrine and inflammatory biomarkers incorporated in previous stress research. Then, a review of sampling procedures for salivary biomarkers and the analytic methods is provided. Finally, a discussion on the strengths and areas for improvement in the use of salivary biomarkers in stress research is included. Conclusion: Salivary biomarkers as an alternative to blood biomarkers are increasingly being recognized as a legitimate source for analyzing the stress response in humans.
Purpose : This descriptive study was performed to analyze the trends of nursing interventional studies in adult nursing area. Method : All interventional studies of 'Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing Society', fifty three articles, from 1989 to 2000 were collected and reviewed Result : The research subject were patients in 38(66.7%) and 81.8% of researches was performed in hospital environment. There was only one true experimental design and most of articles(79.2%) were designed by quasi-experimental method Only 17% of articles have theoretical framework and 73.6% of articles described research hypotheses. The data collection methods for variables were as follows: Psychosocial measurement 60.8%, physiological measurement 25.7%, and observation 13.5%, respectively. Lecture(16.7%), audio-visual(16.7%), and book, pamphlet, or leaflets(13.6%) were the most frequently used instruments of the interventions. Behavioral domain(60.3%) and Physiological: Basic domain(29.3%) was the most common, when the interventions were classified by Nursing Intervention Classification. Physiological(50.8%) and psychosocial variables(49.2%) were the two major dependent variables. Conclusion : Considering the above results obtained, the nursing intervention studies in adult nursing area have been tested with quasi-experimental studies through clinical trials. For the development of clinical nursing practice and advancement of nursing theories, the amount of interventional studies should be increased and the quality of research methods refined more to develop nursing science and practice in adult nursing area.
Purpose: This study was to determine the current trend of nursing research as exploring both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and to provide the explicit direction to improve the quality of published papers. Methods: Total of 366 articles published between 2004 and 2006 was reviewed using the criteria of analysis. Results: There was more number of quantitative studies than qualitative studies. More studies were conducted with subjects who had health problems, and studies that targeted women and elderly population have been significantly increased. In quantitative methodology, utilization of experimental and quasi-experimental designs has been increased, however descriptive study was dominant as yet. In qualitative methodology, studies using grounded theory and phenomenology were frequently published. It was noted that theoretical framework and rational for sample size were rarely presented in quantitative study. Philosophical position and the process of preparation for study, which guided the research, were not clearly described in qualitative study. Conclusion: The findings of this review suggest that published studies have been improved and diversified, however, detailed and clear evaluation tool that assesses study process and method should be developed as a way to further improve the quality of published papers.

Only 8.1% mentioned International Review Board (IRB) approval and 78.4% received only the participant's agreement. The participants' developmental stage was mostly preschool stage, and 37.0% of the child's health problem was a chronic disease. Sensory interventions made up 45.9% of the types of intervention and most of the sensory interventions were distraction interventions. The contents of intervention outcomes were physiological (54.0%) and psychological (28.0%) categories mostly. Conclusion: This study will help in identifying current research trends of pediatric nursing intervention studies in Korea and provide basic data for the direction of developing pediatric nursing interventions.
Purpose: This study was attempted to see the trends in breast cancer researches in Korea. Method: We collected a total of 94 articles associated with breast cancer and published in Korea from 1976 to August 2004 and analyzed the characteristics of those articles, the journals which published those articles in each year, the research designs, subjects, intervention effects in experimental studies, the subjects and concept distribution in comparative researches and themes of the articles. Result: 1. Articles published and associated with breast cancer have increased since 1990 and picked after 2000. 2. Most research designs are survey and correlation studies which are non-experimental research(70.2%) and next are experimental and qualitative researches. 3. In a total 17 articles which are experimental researches, intervention studies which use exercise programs are most(5 articles) and the next are education program, supportive nursing intervention, guided imagery, massage and rehabilitation programs. 4. In correlational researches, concepts such like social-psychological adaptation, partner support, health promotion behavior and family support are treated frequently. 5. Subjects in most comparative studies are patients with breast cancer and normal women. 6. Most nursing research themes are psycho/spiritual problems, 16 articles(17.0%). Conclusion: These results show that the researches related with breast cancer have actively increased and body functions and psycho-social variables have been improved through nursing intervention. Therefore, it seems that more systematic interdisciplinary studies and systematic complement are necessary for future breast cancer nursing researches.
