The Effects of an Evidence-based Nursing Course Using Action Learning on Undergraduate Nursing Students (액션러닝을 활용한 근거기반간호 수업운영의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of an evidence-based nursing (EBN) course using action learning-based team learning in undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The participants who consented were 45 second-year nursing students (22 in the experimental, 23 in the control group) from a university in G-city, Korea. The intervention included lectures, practicals, team activities and reflection on overviewing EBN, formulating clinical questions, searching the evidence, and criticizing the research articles. At the beginning and the end of the 7-week EBN course, the participants completed self-reported questionnaires. Frequencies, $x^2$-test, t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS program 18.0, were used to analyze the data. Results: The experimental group showed significantly higher scores on EBN competency (F=25.80, p<001), information literacy (F=13.75, p=.001), and proactivity in problem solving (F=5.32, p=.026) than the control group. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that an EBN course improves undergraduate nursing students' EBN competencies, information literacy, and proactivity in problem solving. Team learning in EBN education can be an effective teaching strategy.

Keyword Network Analysis and Topic Modeling in an Information Literacy Study of Undergraduate Students (대학생 대상 정보 리터러시 연구의 키워드 네트워크 분석 및 토픽 모델링)

  • Information literacy is a necessary competency for all people living in the information society, but undergraduate students are especially in need of information literacy in the process of academic performance and career preparation. In this study, we conducted frequency analysis, network analysis, and topic modeling on the English abstracts of information literacy-related research on undergraduate students listed in KCI to identify trends in information literacy research on undergraduate students. The main keywords and subsequent research topics were derived by analyzing the frequency analysis and keyword network and comparing the results, and eight subtopics were derived from the topic modeling to observe the main research areas. Information literacy for college students was mainly studied for educational purposes, and nursing information and analysis model development were the main subtopics.

Developing Geriatric Nursing Competency Using Information and Communication Technology: Focusing on a Case of Depression Assessment (ICT 기반 노인간호 역량 개발: 우울증 측정 사례를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe problems and solutions for older adults living alone and using wearable devices to report depressive moods in daily life. In addition, gerontology nurses' competencies and strategies were discussed based on lessons learned from the observational study. Methods: A hybrid method was used, combining literature review and content analyses based on interviews with 53 participants and observations done by the research team. Results: Main issues and relevant strategies were identified in terms of (1) applicability of information and communications technology (ICT) devices for older adults, (2) feasibility of older adults' use of ICT devices, (3) integration of ICT devices into daily life, and (4) relevant issues when older adults use ICT. Important roles and competencies were discussed regarding general and gerontology aspects of ICT. Conclusion: Findings indicate that a wearable device is feasible to measure daily depressive moods in older adults living alone in community settings. To extend our research protocol to practice, gerontology nurses must adequately prepare to meet emerging health care trends and end users' needs for ICT-based nursing. It is necessary to develop diverse educational programs and active involvement in research and design of relevant devices and programs.
