  • In this paper, we propose a neural network with fuzzy preprocessor not only for improving the classification accuracy but also for being able to classify objects whose attribute values do not have clear boundaries. The fuzzy input signal representation scheme is included as a preprocessing module. It transforms imprecise input in linguistic form and precisely stated numerical input into multidimensional numerical values. The transformed input is processed in the postprocessing module. The experimental results indicate the superiority of the backpropagation network with fuzzy preprocessor in comparison to the conventional backpropagation network.

  • In this study, the wave-induced motion responses of modular floating structures (MFS) was investigated through a series of experiments in a two-dimensional wave tank. A 1:63 scale model test was conducted using a 1-by-2 modular floating structure consisting of two modules and connectors. Two different types of connectors were considered: a pitch-free hinge and rigid connector. The numerical analysis was performed based on the higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) and wave Green function with potential flow theory. First, the heave and pitch RAOs of the modules from the regular wave tests were directly compared with numerical analysis results. Next, the motion spectra and their statistical values from the irregular wave tests were compared with the numerical analysis results. The study revealed that the sheltering effect of the weather side module led to a reduction in motion of the lee side module. The numerical analysis showed good agreement with the experimental data, demonstrating the validity of the numerical method. Additionally, the rigid connector, which strongly constrain all six degrees of freedom, significantly reduce pitch motion, making the modules behave as a single rigid body.

  • The cooling effect of a mobile phone using PCM(Phase Change Material) module has been numerically investigated. A transient three-dimensional numerical analysis of heat and fluid flow with natural convection is performed in this study. Governing conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy are solved by an implicit finite volume method. An enthalpy-porosity technique has been used for modeling of the melting process. Two different ways of placing the PCM module are considered. One is to place a PCM module between the substrate and battery pack, and the other is to place a PCM module between MCM(multichip module) and battery pack. Three different types of PCMs are used to predict the performance of PCM. The results show that passive cooling with PCM can reduce the temperature rise and the effect of natural convection in PCM module considered in this study is negligible.

  • Three-dimensional simulator for thermal oxidation process is developed. The simulator is consisted by two individual module, one is analytic-model module and the other is numerical-model module. The analytic-model which uses simple complementary-error function guarantees fast calculation in prediction of multi-dimensional oxidation process. The numerical-model which is based on boundary element method (BEM), has a good accuracy and suitable for various process conditions. The results of this study show that oxide growth is retarded at the corner of hole structure and enhanced at the corner of island structure. These effects are reson of different distribution of oxidant diffusion and mask stress. The utility of models and simulator developed in this study is demonstrated by using it to predict not only traditional shape of LOCOS but also process effects in small geometry.

  • In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.

  • A numerical investigation on the three-dimensional laminar natural convection heat transfer in the periodically fully developed PCB channel has been performed. When heat generating blocks mounted on the adiabatic wall make a channel with their facing shrouding wall, the flow inside the channel becomes periodically fully developed. A single module in the periodically fully developed region is chosen for computational domain in order to save computer storage and computational time. The periodic boundary condition is applied in the anlaysis. The effects of the parameters such as the Rayleigh number, the number of the modules, and the height of channel are examined to obtain the optimum condition for the enhancement of the cooling effectiveness. The result shows that the cooling effect is improved with increasing Rayleigh number and channel height, and decreasing the number of the module. The result also indicates that increasing the height of the channel and number of the module is recommended for a limited space.

  • This study focused on predicting the fatigue life of an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power module for electric locomotives. The effects of different wiring technologies, including aluminum wires, copper wires, aluminum ribbons, and copper ribbons, on solder fatigue life were investigated to meet the high power requirement of the IGBT module. The module's temperature distribution and solder fatigue behavior were investigated through coupled electro-thermo-mechanical analysis based on the finite element method. The ribbons attained a chip junction temperature that was 30℃ lower than that attained with conventional round wires. The ribbons also exhibited a lower plastic strain in comparison with the wires. However, the difference in plastic strain and junction temperature among the different ribbon materials was relatively small. The ribbons also exhibited different crack propagation behaviors relative to the wires. For the wires, the cracks initiated at the outmost edge of the solder, whereas for the ribbons, the cracks grew in the solder layer beneath the ribbons. Comparison of fatigue failure areas indicated that ribbon bonding technology could substantially enhance the fatigue life of IGBT modules and be a potential candidate for high power modules.

  • Yhis paper describes a fault diagnosis simulation of the Real-Time Multiple Fault Dignosis System (RTMFDS) for forcasting faults in a system and deciding current machine state from signal information. Comparing with other diagnosis system for single fault, the system developed deals with multiple fault diagnosis, comprising two main parts. One is a remotesignal generating and transimission terminal and the other is a host system for fault diagnosis. Signal generator generate the random fault signal and the image information, and send this information to host. Host consists of various modules and agents such as Signal Processing Module(SPM) for sinal preprocessing, Performence Monotoring Module(PMM) for subsystem performance monitoring, Trigger Module(TM) for multi-triggering subsystem fault diagnosis, Subsystem Fault Diagnosis Agent(SFDA) for receiving trigger signal, formulating subsystem fault D\ulcornerB and initiating diagnosis, Fault Diagnosis Module(FDM) for simulating component fault with Hierarchical Artificial Neural Network (HANN), numerical models and Hofield network,Result Agent(RA) for receiving simulation result and sending to Treatment solver and Graphic Agent(GA). Each agent represents a separate process in UNIX operating system, information exchange and cooperation between agents was doen by IPC(Inter Process Communication : message queue, semaphore, signal, pipe). Numerical models are used to deseribe structure, function and behavior of total system, subsystems and their components. Hierarchical data structure for diagnosing the fault system is implemented by HANN. Signal generation and transmittion was performed on PC. As a host, SUN workstation with X-Windows(Motif)is used for graphic representation.

  • Thermal performance of an impinging cooling module for 150 W class high power LEDs have been investigated numerically and experimentally. Parametric studies were performed to compare the effect of several design parameters such as nozzle number, nozzle spacing, coolant flow rate, and impinging distance. The experiments were also carried out in order to validate the numerical results and the comparison between the experimental and numerical results showed good agreement. It is found that the overall thermal resistance of impinging cooling module strongly depends on the nozzle number, nozzle spacing, flow rate, and impinging distance. This results showed the optimized operating condition when number of nozzles is 25, nozzles spacing is 4mm, flow rate is 2.70 lpm, distance between nozzles and impinging surface is 2 mm.

  • The aim of the present work is to propose a model for Computer Aided programming of numerical Control lathe. This model is based on the concept by features. It has been developed in an Artificial Intelligence environment, that offers a rapidity as well as a precision for NC code elaboration. In this study a pre-processor has been elaborated to study the geometry of turning workpiece. This pre-processor is a hybrid system which combine a module of design by features and a module of features recognition for a piece provided from an other CAD software. Then, we have conceived a processor that is the heart of the CAD/CAM software. The main functions are to study the fixture of the workpiece, to choose automatically manufacturing cycles, to choose automatically cutting tools (the most relevant), to simulate tool path of manufacturing and calculate cutting conditions, end to elaborate a typical manufacturing process. Finally, the system generates the NC program from information delivered by the processor.
