In this paper, An inversion technique to reconstruct permittivity profiles of 2-D inhomogeneous dielectric objects by iterativeprocess using the moment-methodand improved newton's algoritham is presented. In order to reduce the noise effect in the scattered fieldon the reconstructed permittivity profiles, the cell size of inversescattering is made be larger than that of forward scattering. Performing numerical calculations of dielectric scatterer it is demonstrated that this inversion is able to reconstruct dielectric objectshaving large size and inhomogeneous characteristics, which is insentive tothe noise effect in the scattered field on the reconstructed result.

Waveform inversion requires extracting a reliable low frequency content of seismic data for estimating of the low wave number velocity model. The low frequency content of the seismic data is usually discarded or neglected because of the band-limited response of the source and the receivers. In this study, however small the spectral of the low frequency seismic data is, we assume that it is possible to extract a reliable phase information of the low frequency from the seismic data and use it in waveform inversion. To this end, we exploit the frequency domain finite element modeling and source-receiver reciprocity to calculate the $Frech\`{e}t$ derivative of the phase of the seismic data with respect to the earth model parameter such as velocity, and then apply a damped least squares method to invert the phase of the seismic data. Through numerical example, we will attempt to demonstrate the feasibility of our method in estimating the correct velocity model for prestack depth migration.
In this paper a numerical experiment is conducted to determine the low acoustic impedance of a thin oil or gas reservoir from a seismogram by using the generalized linear inversion method. The seismograms used are normal incident synthetic seismograms containing p-wave primary reflections, multiples, and peg-leg multiples on the layers consisting of oil-, gas-, water-filled sandstone incased in shales. In this experiment the acoustic impedance, the location of reservoir boundary, thickness, and source wavelet are assumed initially and revised iteratively by the least-squares-error technique until the difference between the seismogram and calculated one is very small. This experiment shows that the acoustic impedance and thickness, about 10 m thick, can be determined by the inversion.

In Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) imaging, the echoed data are collected by moving radar's position with respect to the target area, and this operation actually gives effect of synthesizing aperture size, which in turn gives better cross range resolution of reconstructed target scene. Among several inversion scheme for SAR Imaging, we uses an inversion scheme which uses no approximation in wave propagation analysis, and try to verify whether the collected data with synthesized aperture actually gives the same support as that with physical aperture in the same size. To do this, we make a signal subspace comparison of two imaging models with physical and synthesized arrays, respectively. Theoretical comparison and numerical analysis using Gram-Schmidt procedures had been performed. The results showed that the synthesized array data fully span the physical array data with the same system geometry and strongly support the proposed inversion scheme valuable in high resolution radar imaging.

Optimum directivity synthesis of ultrasonic transducers in linear array is considered. To realize the desired directivity, a robust and efficient method is proposed which is the direct inversion combined with the iterative DFP (Davidon-Fletcher-Powell) method. A quasi-ideal beam with the beam width and the steering beam angle specified are chosen for the numerical demonstrations. The demonstration is then extended to the case of multi-beams. The proposed combination method shows quick convergence over the single LMS or DFP method at the expense of the system matrix inversion.
In this paper, we are concerned with the analysis of the waiting time distribution in the M/M/m retrial queue. We give expressions for the Laplace-Stieltjes transform (LST) of the waiting time distribution and then provide a numerical algorithm for calculating the LST of the waiting time distribution. Numerical inversion of the LSTs is used to calculate the waiting time distribution. Numerical results are presented to illustrate our results.
In precision positioning applications, such as scanning tunneling microscopy and diamond turning machines [1], it is often required that actuators have nanometer resolution in displacement, high stiffness, and fast frequency response. These requirements are met by the use of piezoceramic actuators. A major limitation of piezoceramic actuators, however, is their lack of accuracy due to hysteresis nonlinearity and drift. The maximum error due to hysteresis can be as much as 10-15% of the path covered if the actuators are run in an open-loop fashion. Hence, the accurate control of piezoceramic actuators requires a control strategy that incorporates some form of compensation for the hysteresis. One approach is to develop an accurate model of the hysteresis and the use the inverse as a compensator. The Preisach model has frequently been employed as a nonlinear model for representing the hysteresis, because it encompasses the basic features of the hysteresis phenomena in a conceptually simple and mathematically elegant way. In this paper, a new numerical inversion scheme of the Preisach model is developed with an aim of compensating hysteresis in piezoceramic actuators. The inversion scheme is implemented using the first-order reversal functions and is presented in a recursive form. The inverted model is then incorporated in an open-loop control strategy that regulates the piezoceramic actuator and compensates for hysteretic effects. Experimental results demonstrate satisfactory regulation of the position of the piezoceramic actuator to the desired trajectories.

The objective of this paper is to present trajectory guidance and control system with a dynamic inversion for a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The UAV model is expressed by fixed-mass rigid-body six-degree-of-freedom equations of motion, which include the detailed aerodynamic coefficients, the engine model and the actuator models that have lags and limits. A trajectory is generated from the given waypoints using cubic spline functions of a flight distance. The commanded values of an angle of attack, a sideslip angle, a bank angle and a thrust, are calculated from guidance forces to trace the flight trajectory. To adapt various waypoint locations, a proportional navigation is combined with the guidance system. By the decision logic, appropriate guidance law is selected. The flight control system to achieve the commands is designed using a dynamic inversion approach. For a dynamic inversion controller we use the two-timescale assumption that separates the fast dynamics, involving the angular rates of the aircraft, from the slow dynamics, which include angle of attack, sideslip angle, and bank angle. Some numerical simulations are conducted to see the performance of the proposed guidance and control system.

In gravity data correction process, mass effect of the upper part of base level is removed with Bouguer density. Usually, Bouguer density is estimated as a mean density in the field area. But, this may causes a serious problem when ore body is in the area. To overcome this problem, we tried to apply a new method mixing up mass corrections and inversion (3DGTI). 3-D Gravity Terrain Inversion (3DGTI) includes information of topography and distribution of Bouguer density. For this method does not remove the mass effect above base level, it is no longer useless to use Bouguer density. Numerical model tests have shown that the 3DGIT successfully retrieves the anomalous subsurface density distribution of both surface and deeper layers. Model tests shows that this method shows better results than those of conventional one, especially when main target is ore body. The inversion result well delineates the three-dimensional shape of the intruded granite body and basement.
A numerical simulation for 11 February 1996 has been done to grasp main mechanisms of the occurrence of strong downslope winds near Gangnung area. The simulation performed by using ARPS (Advanced Regional Prediction System) showed that enhanced surface winds were not related with a reflection of vertically propagating gravity waves. Froude numbers were about 1.0, 0.4 and 0.6 for the atmosphere above Daekwanryoung and above a place located 220km upstream, and above another place located 230km downstream from the Taebak mountains, respectively. This suggested that as a subcritical flow ascended the upslope side of the Taebak mountains, Froude numbers would tend to increase according to the increase in wind speed, and near the crest the flow would become supercritical and continue to accelerate as it went down the downslope side until it was adapted back to the ambient subcritical conditions in a turbulent hydraulic jump. Simulated Froude numbers corroborated the hydraulic jump nature of the strong downslope wind. In addition, the inversion was found near the mountain top height upstream of the mountains, and it was favorable for the occurrence of strong downslope winds.
