This paper firstly briefly describes developed numerical model for both static and dynamic analysis of planar structures made of concrete, steel and masonry. The model can simulate the main nonlinearity of such individual and composite structures. The model is quite simple and based on a small number of material parameters. After that, three real composite concrete-steel-masonry bridges were analyzed using the presented numerical model. It was concluded that the model can be useful in practical analysis of composite bridges. However, future verifications of the presented numerical model are desirable.
This paper proposes a new foundation model called "Dynamic foundation model" for the dynamic analysis of plates on foundation subjected to a moving oscillator. This model includes a linear elastic spring, shear layer, viscous damping and the special effects of mass density parameters of foundation during vibration. By using finite element method and the principle of dynamic balance, the governing equation of motion of the plate travelled by the oscillator is derived and solved by the Newmark's time integration procedure. The accuracy of the algorithm is verified by comparing the numerical results with the other numerical results in the literature. Also, the effects of mass and damping ratio of system components, stiffness of suspension system, velocity of moving oscillator, and dynamic foundation parameters on dynamic responses are investigated. A very important role of these factors will be shown in the dynamic behavior of the plate.
Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a Lagrangian computational fluid dynamics method that has been widely used in the analysis of physical phenomena characterized by large deformation or multi-phase flow analysis, including free surface. Despite the recent implementation of eddy-viscosity models in SPH methodology, sophisticated turbulent analysis using Lagrangian methodology has been limited due to the lack of computational performance and numerical consistency. In this study, we implement the standard and dynamic Smagorinsky model and dynamic Vreman model as sub-particle scale models based on a weakly compressible SPH solver. The large eddy simulation method is numerically identical to the spatial discretization method of smoothed particle dynamics, enabling the intuitive implementation of the turbulence model. Furthermore, there is no additional filtering process required for physical variables since the sub-grid scale filtering is inherently processed in the kernel interpolation. We simulate lid-driven flow under transition and turbulent conditions as a benchmark. The simulation results show that the dynamic Vreman model produces consistent results with experimental and numerical research regarding Reynolds averaged physical quantities and flow structure. Spectral analysis also confirms that it is possible to analyze turbulent eddies with a smaller length scale using the dynamic Vreman model with the same particle size.
In this study, the accuracy and reliability of fully nonlinear method against equivalent linear method for dynamic analysis of soil-structure interaction is investigated comparing the predicted results of both numerical procedures with the results of experimental shaking table tests. An enhanced numerical soil-structure model has been developed which treats the behaviour of the soil and the structure with equal rigour. The soil-structural model comprises a 15 storey structural model resting on a soft soil inside a laminar soil container. The structural model was analysed under three different conditions: (i) fixed base model performing conventional time history dynamic analysis, (ii) flexible base model (considering full soil-structure interaction) conducting equivalent linear dynamic analysis, and (iii) flexible base model performing fully nonlinear dynamic analysis. The results of the above mentioned three cases in terms of lateral storey deflections and inter-storey drifts are determined and compared with the experimental results of shaking table tests. Comparing the experimental results with the numerical analysis predictions, it is noted that equivalent linear method of dynamic analysis underestimates the inelastic seismic response of mid-rise moment resisting building frames resting on soft soils in comparison to the fully nonlinear dynamic analysis method. Thus, inelastic design procedure, using equivalent linear method, cannot adequately guarantee the structural safety for mid-rise building frames resting on soft soils. However, results obtained from the fully nonlinear method of analysis fit the experimental results reasonably well. Therefore, this method is recommended to be used by practicing engineers.
The objective of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of the dynamic behavior of slope through both 1 g shaking table test and numerical analysis. Accelerometers were installed in the slope model with different types of seismic waves. The numerical analysis (ABAQUS and DEEPSOIL) was used to simulate 1 g shaking table test at infinite boundary. Similar Acceleration-time history, Spectral acceleration (SA) and Spectral acceleration amplification factor (Fa) were obtained, which verified the feasibility of modeling using ABAQUS and DEEPSOIL under the same size. The influence of the size (1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 times larger than that used in the 1 g shaking table test) of the model used in the numerical analysis were extensively investigated. According to the similitude law, ABAQUS was used to analyze the dynamic behavior of large-scale slope model. The 5% Damping Spectral acceleration (SA) and Spectral acceleration amplification factor (Fa) at the same proportional positions were compared. Based on the comparison of numerical analyses and 1 g shaking table tests, it was found that the 1 g shaking table test result can be utilized to predict the dynamic behavior of the real scale slope through numerical analysis.

Numerical model is proposed to estimate dynamic responses of riser with vortex excitation by inline current. Galerkin's finite decomposition method is implemented for the development of a numerical model and vortex excitation is modeled by coupled wake oscillator proposed by Blevins. The numerical results are inspected through the physical interpretation to give the verification and usefulness of the suggested numerical model.
This paper describes effects of infill walls on behavior of RC frame with low strength, including numerical modeling, modal testing and finite-element model updating. For this purpose full scaled, one bay and one story RC frame is produced and tested for plane and brick in-filled conditions. Ambient-vibration testis applied to identify dynamic characteristics under natural excitations. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods are used to obtain experimental dynamic characteristics. A numerical modal analysis is performed on the developed two-dimensional finite element model of the frames using SAP2000 software to provide numerical frequencies and mode shapes. Dynamic characteristics obtained by numerical and experimental are compared with each other and finite element model of the frames are updated by changing some uncertain modeling parameters such as material properties and boundary conditions to reduce the differences between the results. At the end of the study, maximum differences in the natural frequencies are reduced on average from 34% to 9% and a good agreement is found between numerical and experimental dynamic characteristics after finite-element model updating. In addition, it is seen material properties are more effective parameters in the finite element model updating of plane frame. However, for brick in-filled frame changes in boundary conditions determine the model updating process.
This paper presents a numerical model for investigating the structural dynamic response of an unbalanced rotor system supported on deep groove ball bearings. The aim of this work is to develop a numerical model for investigating the effect of the number of balls on the dynamic characteristics of the rotor ball bearing system. The fourth-order Runge-Kutta numerical integration technique has been applied. The results are presented in the form of time displacement responses and frequency spectra. The analysis demonstrates that the model can be used as a tool for predicting the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the rotor ball bearing system under different operating conditions. Moreover, the study may contribute to a further understanding of the nonlinear dynamics of rotor bearing systems.
In this research, a series of dynamic numerical analysis were carried out for deep underground building structures under the various earthquake conditions. Dynamic numerical analysis model was developed based on the PLAXIS2D and calibrated with centrifuge test data from Kim et al. (2016). The hardening soil model with small strain stiffness (HSSMALL) was adopted for soil constitutive model, and interface elements was employed at the interface between plate and soil elements to simulate dynamic interaction effect. In addition, parametric study was performed for fixed condition and embedded depth. Finally, the dynamic behavior of underground building structure was thoroughly analyzed and evaluated.

This paper deals with in-plane vibration analysis of curved beams. The exact dynamic element method is applied to obtain the dynamic model for curved beams. Numerical examples are provided to validate the proposed modeling and analysis method. The numerical results show that the proposed method is useful for the dynamic analysis of curved beams.
