A FAST KACZMARZ-KOVARIK ALGORITHM FOR CONSISTENT LEAST-SQUARES PROBLEMS

  • In some previous papers the author extended two algorithms proposed by Z. Kovarik for approximate orthogonalization of a finite set of linearly independent vectors from a Hibert space, to the case when the vectors are rows (not necessary linearly independent) of an arbitrary rectangular matrix. In this paper we describe combinations between these two methods and the classical Kaczmarz’s iteration. We prove that, in the case of a consistent least-squares problem, the new algorithms so obtained converge ti any of its solutions (depending on the initial approximation). The numerical experiments described in the last section of the paper on a problem obtained after the discretization of a first kind integral equation ilustrate the fast convergence of the new algorithms. Optimal Design of Discrete Time Preview Controllers for Semi-Active and Active Suspension systems

  • In this paper, modified discrete time preview control algorithms for active and semi-active suspension systems are derived based on a simple mathematical 4 DOF half-car model. The discrete time preview control laws for ride comfort are employed in the simulation. The algorithms for MIMO system contain control strategies reacting against body forces that occur at cornering, accelerating, braking, or under payload, in addition to road disturbances. Matlab simulation results for the discrete time case are compared with those for the continuous time case and the appropriateness of the discrete time algorithms are verified by the of simulation results. Passive, active, and semi-active system responses to a sinusoidal input and an asphalt road input are analysed and evaluated. The simulation results show the extent of performance degradation due to numerical errors related to the length of the sampling time and time delay.

Predictability Experiments of Fog and Visibility in Local Airports over Korea using the WRF Model

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate and improve the capability of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in simulating fog and visibility in local airports over Korea. The WRF model system is statistically evaluated for the 48-fog cases over Korea from 2003 to 2006. Based on the 4-yr evaluations, attempts are made to improve the simulation skill of fog and visibility over Korea by revising the statistical coefficients in the visibility algorithms of the WRF model. A comparison of four existing visibility algorithms in the WRF model shows that uncertainties in the visibility algorithms include additional degree of freedom in accuracy of numerical fog forecasts over Korea. A revised statistical algorithm using a linear-regression between the observed visibility and simulated hydrometeors and humidity near the surface exhibits overall improvement in the visibility forecasts.

  • This paper deals with the problem of placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators to achieve the control objective of vibration suppression. Using the mean square response as a performance index in optimization, we obtain optimal placement and sizing of the actuator. The use of genetic algorithms as a technique for solving optimization problems of placement and sizing is explored. Genetic algorithms are also used for the control strategy. The analysis of the system and response moment equations are carried out by using the Fokker-Planck equation. This paper presents the design and analysis of an active controller and optimal placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators based on genetic algorithms for a flexible structure under random disturbance, shows numerical example and the result.

  • This paper presents the result of a comparison study to evaluate the performance of several semi-active control algorithms for use with large-scale MR damper applied to a building structure under seismic excitation using real-time hybrid test method. Recently, a variety of semi-active control algorithm studies are developed and generally evaluated the performance by using numerical analysis. In this paper real-time hybrid test method was applied to performance evaluating of semi-active control algorithms including a clipped optimal algorithm and the modulated homogeneous friction algorithm.

적응형 유전알고리즘의 실험적 비교 (An Experimental Comparison of Adaptive Genetic Algorithms)

  • In this paper, we develop an adaptive genetic algorithm (aGA). The aGA has an adaptive scheme which can automatically determine the use of local search technique and adaptively regulate the rates of crossover and mutation operations during its search process. For the adaptive scheme, the ratio of degree of dispersion resulting from the various fitness values of the populations at continuous two generations is considered. For the local search technique, an improved iterative hill climbing method is used and incorporated into genetic algorithm (GA) loop. In order to demonstrate the efficiency of the aGA, i) a canonical GA without any adaptive scheme and ii) several conventional aGAs with various adaptive schemes are also presented. These algorithms, including the aGA, are tested and analyzed each other using various test problems. Numerical results by various measures of performance show that the proposed aGA outperforms the conventional algorithms.

  • This paper is aimed at presenting two methods on the basis of pattern search and genetic algorithms to detect and estimate damage in plates using the modal data of a damaged plate. The proposed methods determine the damages of plate structures using optimization of an objective function by pattern search and genetic algorithms. These methods have been applied to two numerical examples, namely four-fixed supported and cantilever plates with and without noise in the modal data and containing one or several damages. The obtained results clearly reveal that the proposed methods can be viewed as a powerful and reliable method for structural damage detection in plates using the modal data.

  • We propose a optimal identification of information granulation(IG)-based fuzzy model to carry out the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. To optimally identity we use genetic algorithm (GAs) sand Hard C-Means (HCM) clustering. An initial structure of fuzzy model is identified by determining the number of input, the selected input variables, the number of membership function, and the conclusion inference type by means of GAs. Granulation of information data with the aid of Hard C-Means(HCM) clustering algorithm help determine the initial parameters of fuzzy model such as the initial apexes of the membership functions and the initial values of polynomial functions being used in the premise and consequence part of the fuzzy rules. And the initial parameters are tuned effectively with the aid of the genetic algorithms(GAs) and the least square method. Numerical example is included to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

축적 프로그램 제어교환기의 과부하 제어 방식에 관한 연구 (Overload Control Algorithms for the Stored Program Control Switching System)

  • In this paper we studied the control of overload which could bring the degradation of performance and threaten the stability of the electronic switching system. In order to get the essential requirement for overload control algorithm, we tried to extract the characteristics of commonly used algorithms by means of simulating overload control alogrithms in numerical stored program control switching model. As the result, we could find that the overload control algorithm which monitored the CPU occupancy had the best call complete rate and good response characteristecs and the algorithm using the offered load as a system state variable had a good grade of service which was represented by a short dial tone delay and 3rd quartile of deal tone delay. however, these control algorithms have no generality and need to get the control parameters by the trial-and-error method. We suggested the guidelines on the design of the overload control algorithm.

  • This paper investigates the effectiveness of the MR damper-based control systems for seismic protection of base isolated building sturcutres employing some semiactive control algorithms, such as the modified clipped-optimal control, the maximum energy dissipation, and the modulated homogeneous friction, by examining the Phase I smart base isolated benchmark building problem. The results of the numerical simulations showed that most of the control systems considered herein could be beneficial in reducing seismic responses, especially base displacement or isolator deformation, of base isolated building structures. It is also verified that another version of the modified clipped-optimal control algorithm proposed in this study and the modulated homogeneous friction algorithm are more effective than other semiactive control algorithms.
