  • This paper presents an advanced method for an initial pole position estimation of a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) that has an accurate incremental encoder for servo applications but does not have Hall sensors as a magnetic pole sensor. By appropriately using the secant method as a numerical method the proposed algorithm finds either of two zero force positions and then the correct d-axis by applying a q-axis test current. It only requires the tuned current controller and the relative position information md so it can be simply applicable to a rotary PMSM. The experimental results show the validity of the proposed method, which has an excellent performance with respect to an accurate pole position estimation under the minimal moving distance(average of about 85㎛) during the estimation process.

  • The mechanical system of a drive can often be modeled as a two- or three-mass-system. The load is coupled to the driving motor by a shaft able to perform torsion oscillations. For the automatic tuning of the control, it is necessary to know the mathematical description of the system and the corresponding parameters. As the manpower and setup-time necessary during the commissioning of electrical drives are major cost factors, the development of self-operating identification strategies is a task worth pursuing. This paper presents an identification method which can be utilized for the assisted commissioning of electrical drives. The shaft assembly can be approximated as a two-mass non-rigid mechanical system with four parameters that have to be identified. The mathematical background for an identification procedure is developed and some important implementation issues are addressed. In order to avoid the excitation of the system with its natural resonance frequency, the frequency response can be obtained by exciting the system with a Pseudo Random Binary Signal (PRBS) and using the cross correlation function (CCF) and the auto correlation function (ACF). The reference torque is used as stimulation and the response is the mechanical speed. To determine the parameters, especially in advanced control schemes, a numerical algorithm with excellent convergence characteristics has also been used that can be implemented together with the proposed measurement procedure in order to assist the drive commissioning or to achieve an automatic setting of the control parameters. Simulations and experiments validate the efficiency and reliability of the identification procedure.

  • The atmospheric pressure plasma is regarded as an effective method for surface treatments because it can reduce the period of process and doesn't need expensive vacuum apparatus. The performance of non-transferred plasma torches is significantly depended on jet flow characteristics out of the nozzle. In order to produce the high performance of a torch, the maximum discharge velocity near an annular gap in the torch should be maintained. Also, the compulsory swirl is being produced to gain the shape that can concentrate the plasma at the center of gas flow. In this work, the distribution of gas flow that goes out to atmosphere through a plenum chamber and nozzle is analyzed to evaluate the performance of atmospheric pressure plasma torch which can present the optimum design of the torch. Numerical analysis is carried out with various angles of an inlet flow velocity. Especially, three-dimensional model of the torch is investigated to estimate swirl effect. We also investigate the stabilization of plasma distribution. For analyzing the swirl in the plenum chamber and the flow distribution, FVM (finite volume method) and SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing equations. The standard k-model is used for simulating the turbulence.

  • In this paper we provide a new image restoration method based on the multiscale regularization in the redundant wavelet transform domain. The proposed method uses the redundant wavelet transform to decompose the single-scale image restoration problem to multiscale ones and applies scale dependent regularization to the decomposed restoration problems. The proposed method recovers sharp edges by applying rather less regularization to wavelet related restorations, while suppressing the resulting noise magnification by the wavelet shrinkage algorithm. The improved performance of the proposed method over more traditional Wiener filtering is shown through numerical experiments.

  • A one-dimensional transport of displacing monovalent ion, $A^+$, and a trivalent ion being displaced, $B^{3+}^ in a porous exchange system such as soil was approximated using the Crank-Nicolson implicit finite difference technique and the Thomas algorithm in tandem. The variations in the concentration profile were investigated by varying the ion-exchange equilibrium constant (k) of ion-exchange reactions, the influent concentrations, and the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the exchanger, under constant flux condition of pore water and dispersion coefficient. A higher value of k resulted in a greater removal of the native ion, behind the sharper advancing front of displacing ion, while the magnitude of the penetration distance of $A^+$ was not great. As the CEC increased, the equivalent fraction of $B^{3+}^ initially in the soil was greater, thus indicating that a higher CEC adsorbed trivalent cations preferentially over monovalent ions. Mass balance error from simulation results was less than 1%, indicating this model accounted for instantaneous charge balance fairly well.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. This paper proposes maximum torque control of IPMSM drive using adaptive learning fuzzy neural network and artificial neural network. This control method is applicable over the entire speed range which considered the limits of the inverter's current md voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $i_d$ for maximum torque operation is derived. This paper considers the design and implementation of novel technique of high performance speed control for IPMSM using adaptive teaming fuzzy neural network and artificial neural network. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also, this paper proposes speed control of IPMSM using adaptive teaming fuzzy neural network and estimation of speed using artificial neural network. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system controlled adaptive teaming fuzzy neural network and artificial neural network, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail. Also, this paper proposes the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the adaptive teaming fuzzy neural network and artificial neural network.

  • Efficient finite field operation in the elliptic curve (EC) public key cryptography algorithm, which attracts much of latest issues in the applications in information security, is very important. Traditional serial finite multipliers root from Mastrovito's serial multiplication architecture. In this paper, we adopt the polynomial basis and propose a new finite field multiplier, inducing numerical expressions which can be applied to exhibit 3 times as much performance as the Mastrovito's. We described the proposed multiplier with HDL to verify and evaluate as a proper hardware IP. HDL-implemented serial GF (Galois field) multiplier showed 3 times as fast speed as the traditional serial multiplier's adding only Partial-sum block in the hardware.

  • The channel is one of the precious and limited resources in wireless networks. There are many researches on the channel management. Recently, the optimization problem of guard channels has been an important issue. In this paper, we propose an intelligent channel management technique based on the neural networks. An SRN channel allocation model is developed to generate the learning data for the neural networks and the performance analysis of system. In the proposed technique, the neural network is trained to generate optimal guard channel number g, using backpropagation supervised learning algorithm. The optimal g is computed using the neural network and compared to the g computed by the SRM model. The numerical results show that the difference between the value of 8 by backpropagation and that value by SRM model is ignorable.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm to measure the ultrasonic travel time is proposed, which is fundamental to estimate distance depth and volume in several media. Pulse wave has been used to measure travel time of transmitted signal. However, due to the characteristic of transducer and propagation, the received signal is so distorted that it is difficult to measure travel time, which is propagation, the received signal is so distorted that it is difficult to measure travel time, which is to be time difference between transmitted and received signals. In this proposed method, transmitted and received signal are transformed respectively into norm phase newly designed by this paper and displayed on phase-time curve. And travel time is simply determined by the arithmetic numerical mean of time difference at the identical norm phase on the phase-time curves of transmitted and received signals. This method has several features; firstly, travel time is calculated analytically with high accuracy by least square error method, secondly, it is useful to compare the difference of signal magnitude for time information, thirdly, noise and discrete errors are relatively small, finally, the measurement accuracy is not influenced by D.C. bias. In particular, this method is useful and applicable to measuring very short distance and sound speed with high accuracy.

  • The localization of vehicle is an important part of an unmanned vehicle control problem. Pseudolite ultrasonic system(PUS) is the method to find an absolute position with a high accuracy by using ultrasonic sensor. And Gyro is the inertial sensor to measure yaw angle of vehicle. PUS can be able to estimate the position of mobile robot precisely, in which errors are not accumulated. And Gyro is a more faster measure method than PUS. In this paper, we suggest a more accuracy method of calculating PUS which is numerical analysis approach named Newtonian method. And also propose the fusion method to increase the accuracy of estimated angle on moving vehicle by using PUS and Gyro integrated system by Kalman filtering. To control the 4WS unmanned vehicle, the trajectory following algorithm is suggested. And the new concept arbitration of goal controller is suggested. This method considers the desirability function of vehicle state. Finally, the performances of Newtonian method and designed controller were verified from the experimental results with the 4WS vehicle scaled 1/10.
