  • This research proposes a new strategy where documents are encoded into string vectors and modified version of k means algorithm to be adaptable to string vectors for text clustering. Traditionally, when k means algorithm is used for pattern classification, raw data should be encoded into numerical vectors. This encoding may be difficult, depending on a given application area of pattern classification. For example, in text clustering, encoding full texts given as raw data into numerical vectors leads to two main problems: huge dimensionality and sparse distribution. In this research, we encode full texts into string vectors, and modify the k means algorithm adaptable to string vectors for text clustering.

  • A numerical study is made of a manifold and bipolar plate in polymer electrolyte fuel cells, the aim of the present study is to describe the characteristics of flow pattern In manifold and bipolar plate. The present work shows that the flow pattern in the bipolar plate is affected by the penetration flow through GDL characterized by clamping pressure and GDL intrusion in to a channel area. Manifold geometry also affects the flow distribution. The recirculation flow by bent duct destroy even distribution In manifold, the present work shows that corner rounding can improve the manifold performance.

  • In this paper, a three-dimensional numerical study on flow pattern in winter along connecting passageway of a composite building was conducted using a commercial CFD package. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation coupled was solved by using SIMPLE algorithm in order to find steady solutions. It was shown that a upward flow is generated inside the building in winter due to buoyancy effect and that the air inside connecting passageway flows from the shorter building to the taller one regardless of the slope of the passageway. Further, it was found that the magnitude of air velocity inside connecting passageway increases as the uphill slope to the taller building increases and decreases as the downhill slope to the taller one increases, although the variation in the magnitude of fluid velocity is not substantial. Lastly, it was shown that the maximum air velocity inside connecting passageway is less than the allowable limit for all the cases considered in this study.

  • In this paper, experimental as well as numerical analysis of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) laminated composite has been presented under ballistic impact with varying projectile nose shapes (conical, ogival and spherical) and incidence velocities. The experimental impact tests on GFRP composite plate reinforced with woven glass fiber ($0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}$)s are performed by using pneumatic gun. A three dimensional finite element model is developed in AUTODYN hydro code to validate the experimental results and to study the ballistic perforation characteristic of the target with different parametric variations. The influence of projectile nose shapes, plate thickness and incidence velocity on the variation of residual velocity, ballistic limit, contact force-time histories, energy absorption, damage pattern and damage area in the composite target have been studied. The material characterization of GFRP composite is carried out as required for the progressive damage analysis of composite. The numerical results from the present FE model in terms of residual velocity, absorbed energy, damage pattern and damage area are having close agreement with the results from the experimental impact tests.

  • The flow fields in the volute casing of a small-size turbo-compressor at different flowrate (design point ${\pm}20%$) are studied by numerical analysis. The governing equations for three-dimensional steady viscous flow are solved using SIMPLE algorithm with commercial code of STAR-CD. Numerical results show that the three-dimensional flow pattern inside the volute casing of a small-size turbo-compressor is strongly influenced by secondary flows that are typically created by the curvature or the casing passages. The flow pattern in the casing also affects the performance of the turbo-compressor. In order to elucidate the loss mechanism through the volute, we prepared the secondary flow, velocity magnitude, and static pressure distribution at the four cross-sectional planes of the casing.

  • A numerical investigation is made of three-dimensional buoyant convection of a Boussinesq-fluid in a vertical cylinder. The top and bottom endwalls are thermally insulated. Flow is driven by the substantial azimuthal variations in thermal boundary conditions. Comprehensive numerical solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations are obtained. The representative Rayleigh number is large, thus, the overall flow pattern is of boundary layer-type. Three-dimensional (low characteristics are described. Specially, the global flow and the heat transfer features are delineated when the severity of azimuthal variation of sidewall temperature n, is intensified. Temperature and velocity fields on the meridional planes and the planes of constant height are presented. The global flow weakens as n becomes large. The pattern of the local Nusselt number on the surface of cylinder is similar regardless of n. The convective gain in heat transfer activities is reduced as n increases.

  • Snowdrifts around buildings can cause serious problems when formed on undesirable places. The formation of snowdrifts is highly connected to the wind pattern around the building, and the wind pattern is again dependent on the building design. The shear stress on the surface and snowdrifting around different buildings are investigated through CFD analysis and compared to measurements. The computations of shear stress shows local minima in the same areas as snowdrifts are formed. The snowdrifting computations utilises a drift-flux model where a fluid with snow properties is allowed to drift through a fluid with air properties. An apparent dynamic viscosity of the snow/air mixture is defined and used as a threshold criterion for snowdrifting. The results from the snowdrifting computations show increased snow density where snowdrifts are expected, and are in agreement with previous large-scale snowdrift measurements. The results show that computational fluid dynamics can be a tool for planning building design in snowdrifting areas.

  • In this study, to achieve the optimal conditions for mechanical hyper-fine pattern fabrication process, deformation behaviors of the materials during indentation were studied with numerical method by ABAQUS S/W. Brittle materials (Si, Pyrex glass 7740) were used as specimens, and forming conditions to reduce the elastic recovery and pile-up were proposed. The indenter was modeled a rigid surface. Minimum mesh sizes of specimens are 1-10nm. Comparisons between the experimental data and numerical result demonstrated that the finite element approach is capable of reproducing the loading-unloading behavior of a nanoindentation test.

  • The dynamic crack growth in ductile steel is investigated by means of the impact loaded 3 point bending (3PB) specimens. Results from experiments and numerical simulations are compared to each other. A modified 3PB specimen designed with the reduced width at its ends has been developed in order to avoid the initial compressive loading of the crack tip and also to avoid the uncertain boundary conditions at the impact heads. Numerical simulations of the experiments are made by using a finite element method (FEM) code, ABAQUS. The high speed photography is used to obtain the crack growth and the data of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD). The direct measurements of the relative rotations of two specimen halves are made by using the Moire interference pattern.

  • This paper describes a numerical analysis of the light scattering patterns of roughness profiles. This analysis was based upon the light scattering theory developed by Beckmann. In the analysis, the roughness profile was regarded as a profile whose irregularities depend on the production process and the shape of cutting tool. Generally, waviness of an actual surface seriously distorts the scattered pattern of roughness profile. In order to avoid the effects of waviness of actual surfaces, several theoretically calculated scattering patterns, instead of actual scattering patterns, were used to analyze the scattering patterns of typical engineering roughness profiles. The characteristics of the light scattering patterns for five model surfaces were studied.
