This thesis is results of numerical analyses about test results of discharge capacity apparatus using penetration method. Applicability of numerical approach with FEM technique, using Cam-clay model, was confirmed by analyzing the results of standard consolidation test before analyzing test results of discharge capacity apparatus using penetration method. Thus, input parameters for the model was convinced to be appropriate. For numerical analyses about test results of discharge capacity apparatus using penetration method, identical initial and loading conditions during tests were applied to simulate test results correctly. Effects of ground disturbance resulted from installment of vertical drains on the behaviors of consolidation were also simulated. Applicability of numerical approach was investigated by comparing test results with numerical ones. As results of them, both of consolidation settlement were found to be in good agreements so that its applicability was confirmed. As results of numerical estimation, degree of consolidation with the condition of considering smear zone was found to be delayed, compared with results without smear zone. On the other hands, parametric numerical analyses of changing parameters related to smear zone such as permeability and size of smear zone and permeability of vertical drain were also carried out.
This research investigated the way of generating the flowing of water in case of artificial fluctuation of river width by the unidimensional numerical analysis in order to reconstruct vertical and expanse features of flowing, and the problem of existing numerical analysis in accordance with local enlargement and reduction of river through hydraulic model experiments with results of numerical analysis. The result revealed that when the local section change in the same river is exist, it showed 0.93m in the case of no change of local section in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis, however, it presented 1.645m on the occasion of local section changes in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis. In other words, there was a significant difference in the existing numerical analysis, when there was a local section change. As a result of the experimental section for the enlargement and reduction of local river width, due to the sensitive change for fluctuation of flood discharge, there was a significant difference between numerical analysis and hydraulic model experiments. In addition, the result of comparison between the enlargement and reduction of local river width confirmed that the result of numerical analysis with hydraulic model experiments showed larger generation of deviation in case of enlargement of section than in case of reduction of section.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has improved medium-range weather forecasts by implementing post-processing methods to minimize numerical model errors. In this study, we employ a statistical correction technique known as the minimum continuous ranked probability score (CRPS) to refine medium-range forecast guidance. This technique quantifies the similarity between the predicted values and the observed cumulative distribution function of the Unified Model Ensemble Prediction System for Global (UM EPSG). We evaluated the performance of the medium-range forecast guidance for surface air temperature and relative humidity, noting significant enhancements in seasonal bias and root mean squared error compared to observations. Notably, compared to the existing the medium-range forecast guidance, temperature forecasts exhibit 17.5% improvement in summer and 21.5% improvement in winter. Humidity forecasts also show 12% improvement in summer and 23% improvement in winter. The results indicate that utilizing the minimum CRPS for medium-range forecast guidance provide more reliable and improved performance than UM EPSG.
This paper presents a numerical procedure for solving initial-value problems using the special functions which belong to a class of Rvachev's basis functions $R_{bf}$ based on algebraic and trigonometric polynomials. Because of infinite derivability of these functions, derivatives of all orders, required by differential equation of the problem and initial conditions, are used directly in the numerical procedure. The accuracy and stability of the proposed numerical procedure are proved on an example of a single degree of freedom system. Critical time step was also determined. An algorithm for solving multiple degree of freedom systems by the collocation method was developed. Numerical results obtained by $R_{bf}$ functions are compared with exact solutions and results obtained by the most commonly used numerical procedures for solving initial-value problems.
In this study, numerical analysis of viscous flows is carried out based on the unstructured grid. There exist some difficulties in expressing and computing numerical derivatives on the unstructured grid due to lack of the structured characteristics. The general computer algorithms are developed to perform numerical derivatives easily and extended to be applicable to various geometries composed of hybrid meshes. And the optimal method of strongly implicit procedure is newly contrived to accelerate the rate of convergence in solving the pressure Poisson equation. To verify numerical schemes, the driven cavity problems of 2 and 3 dimension are simulated. The numerical results are compared with others and our numerical schemes are shown to be valid.

In this article, stability of composite conical shells subjected to dynamic external pressure is investigated by numerical and experimental methods. In experimental tests, cross-ply glass woven fabrics were selected for manufacturing of specimens. Hand-layup method was employed for fabricating the glass-epoxy composite shells. A test-setup that includes pressure vessel and data acquisition system was designed. Also, numerical analyses are performed. In these analyses, effect of actual geometrical imperfections of experimental specimens on the numerical results is investigated. For introducing the imperfections to the numerical models, linear eigen-value buckling analyses were employed. The buckling modes are multiplied by very small numbers that are derived from measurement of actual specimens. Finally, results are compared together while a good agreement between results of imperfect numerical analyses and experimental tests is observed.
The characteristics of defect correction method are discussed in a sample heat conduction problem showing the numerical solution of the error correction equation can predict the error of the numerical solution of the original governing equation. A way of using defect correction method combined with the existing algorithm for the incompressible fluid flow, is proposed and subsequently tested for the driven square cavity problem. The error correction equations for the continuity equation and the momentum equations are considered to estimate the errors of the numerical solutions of the original governing equations. With this new approach, better velocity and pressure fields can be obtained by correcting the original numerical solutions using the estimated errors. These calculated errors also can be used to estimate the orders of magnitude of the errors of the original numerical solutions.

An unconditionally stable compact 2D Alternating-Direction Implicit (ADI) FDTD method for calculating dispersion characteristics of waveguide structures is proposed. The numerical stability and numerical dispersion relation of the proposed method are also presented and discussed. Numerical wavelengths for the dominant and higher order modes in a hollow waveguide are obtained from numerical simulations and compared with those from the analytical dispersion relation. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme has the potential to successfully analyze a class of waveguides having locally fine geometry with reduced numerical costs.
A numerical procedure for the analysis of slender arch buckling problems for uniform dead weight is presented in this paper. Such loading changes in the arch profile. The problem is nonlinear. The numerical procedure is limited to an inextensible analysis and to elastic behavior. Based upon a numerical integration technique developed by Newmark for straight beams, a large deflection bending analysis is combined with small deflection buckling routines to formulate the numerical procedure. The numerical procedure is composed of a combination of the numerical integration and successive approximations procedure. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1.The critical loads obtained in this study coincide with the results by Austin so that the algorithm developed in this study is verified. 2.The numerical results are converged with good precision when the half arch is divided into 10 segments in both Prime and Quadratic section. 3.The critical loads are decreased as the ratios of rise versus span are increased. 4.The critical loads are increased as the moments of inertia at the ends are increased. 5.The critical loads of Prime section are larger than that of Quadratic section under the same profile conditions.
The application of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) in a curvilinear coordinate system to the flow around a square cylinder is presented. In order to obtain sufficient resolution near the side of the cylinder, we use an O-type grid. Even with a curvilinear coordinate system, it is difficult to avoid the numerical oscillation arising in high-Reynolds-number flows past a bluff body, without using an extremely fine grid used. An upwind scheme has the effect of removing the numerical oscillations, but, it is accompanied by numerical dissipation that is a kind of an additional sub-grid scale effect. Firstly, we investigate the effect of numerical dissipation on the computational results in a case where turbulent dissipation is removed in order to clarify the differences between the effect of numerical dissipation. Next, the applicability and the limitations of the present method, which combine the dynamic SGS model with acceptable numerical dissipation, are discussed.
