The $\underline{H}igh$ flux $\underline{A}dvanced$$\underline{N}eutron$$\underline{A}pplication$$\underline{R}eact\underline{O}r$ (HANARO), an open-tank-in-pool type reactor, is one of the multi-purpose research reactors in the world. Since the commencement of HANARO's operations in 1995, a significant number of experimental facilities have been developed and installed at HANARO, and continued efforts to develop more facilities are in progress. Owing to the stable operation of the reactor and its frequent utilization, more experimental facilities are being continuously added to satisfy various fields of study and diverse applications. The irradiation testing equipment for nuclear fuels and materials at HANARO can be classified into capsules and the Fuel Test Loop (FTL). Capsules for irradiation tests of nuclear fuels in HANARO have been developed for use under the dry conditions of the coolant and materials at HANARO and are now successfully utilized to perform irradiation tests. The FTL can be used to conduct irradiation testing of a nuclear fuel under the operating conditions of commercial nuclear power plants. During irradiation tests conducted using these capsules in HANARO, instruments such as the thermocouple, Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT), small heater, Fluence Monitor (F/M) and Self-Powered Neutron Detector (SPND) are used to measure various characteristics of the nuclear fuel and irradiated material. This paper describes not only the status of HANARO and the status and perspective of irradiation devices and instrumentation for carrying out nuclear fuel and material tests in HANARO but also some results from instrumentation during irradiation tests.
Creep of soils has a significant impact on mechanical properties. The one-dimensional consolidation creep test, thermal analysis test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) test, and mercury compression test were performed on Guilin red clay to study the changes in bound water and microstructure during the creep process of Guilin red clay. According to the results of the tests, only free and weakly bound water is discharged during the creep of Guilin red clay. When the consolidation pressure p is in the 12.5-400.0 kPa range, it is primarily the discharge of free water; when the consolidation pressure p is in the 800.0-1600.0 kPa range, the weakly bound water is converted to free water and discharged. After consolidation creep, the microstructure of soil changes from granular overhead contact structure to flat sheet-like stacking structure, with a decrease in the number of large and medium pores, an increase in the number of small and micro pores, and a decrease in the fractal dimension of pores. The creep process of red clay is the discharge of weakly bound water as well as the compression of large pores into small pores and the transition of soil particles from loose to dense.
The purpose of this study is to provide the basic guidelines of spatial and physical environment for the planning and design of clinical laboratory by analysing the extent of satisfaction of clinical laboratory scientists. The data for this analysis was gathered from March to May 2005 by the questionnaires of 208 clinical laboratory scientists who work in the 13 hospitals. All the collected data was analyzed by the SPSSWIN program. In this study, the satisfaction measurement tool was composed with 8 items and 5 score scale. The mean score of satisfaction for spatial and physical environment was 2.89 out of 5.0, "noise" was the lowest 2.40, "temperature and moisture of the lab." was 2.72, "lab. area, service area and administration area" was 2.77, "passageway space" was 2.94, circulation of workers was 2.94, "color of finish" was 3.19, "lighting of lab." was the highest 3.39. In conclusion, various factors, noise, temperature and moisture, clinical lab area, were evaluated to moderate dissatisfaction. Noise was especially the first serious problem in clinical lab. Considering the high growth of the number of tests, the planning of the clinical laboratory size should be considered not only to provide the optimal size but how it will correspond to the growth of the number of tests. Therefore the arrangement of each section need to be flexible in arrangement which is inevitable in expansion and reconstruction in the future.

In this paper, a study on the physical properties of mortar applying 3D Textile was conducted to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing concrete surface repair and reinforcement method. In the tests conducted to analyze the physical properties, compressive strength, flexural strength, and dynamic modulus measurement tests were conducted. As a result of the compressive strength test, as the number of surfaces to which the stereoscopic fiber was applied increased, the amount of displacement and strength reduction rate increased, and the flexural strength also increased as the number of surfaces to which the stereoscopic fiber was applied increased. In addition, it was confirmed that the use of stereoscopic fibers tended to decrease the dynamic modulus of elasticity. This result is a characteristic of the application of stereoscopic fibers, and it caused a decrease in compressive strength due to a decrease in the mortar content of the part to which the stereoscopic fib er was applied, and the high tensile force of the stereoscopic fiber is believed to have affected the increase in flexural strength.

Fourteen model pile load tests using a calibration chamber and instrumented model pile were preformed to investigate the variation of the behaviors of driven piles in sands with soil and lateral cyclic loading conditions. Results of the model tests showed that the first loading cycle generated more than 70% of the pile head rotation developed for 50 lateral loading cycles. Lateral cyclic loading also made an increase of the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles for $K_0$=0.4 and an decrease for $K_0$ higher than 0.4. Higher portion of the increase or decrease in the ultimate lateral load capacity by lateral cyclic loading was generated for the first loading cycle due to densification of loosening of the soil around the pile by lateral cyclic loading. It was also observed that a two-way cyclic loading caused higher ultimate lateral load capacity of driven piles than a one-way cyclic loading. When the pile was in the ultimate state, the maximum bending moment developed in the pile increased with increasing $K_0$ value of soil and was insensitive to the magnitude and number of lateral cyclic loading.
The influence of spacers on the behaviour and ultimate capacity of intermediate length CFS open section columns under axial compression is investigated in this paper. The focus of the research lies in the cross- section predominantly, failed by distortional buckling. This paper made an attempt to either delay or eliminate the distortional buckling mode by the introduction of transverse elements referred herein as spacers. The cross-sections investigated have been selected by performing the elastic buckling analysis using CUFSM software. The test program considered three different columns having slenderness ratios of 35, 50 & 60. The test program consisted of 14 pure axial compression tests under hinged-hinged end condition. Models have been analysed using finite element simulations and the obtained results are compared with the experimental tests. The finite element package ABAQUS has been used to carry out non-linear analyses of the columns. The finite element model incorporates material, geometric non-linearities and initial geometric imperfection of the specimens. The work involves a wide parametric study in the column with spacers of varying depth and number of spacers. The results obtained from the study shows that the depth and number of spacers have significant influence on the behaviour and strength of the columns. Based on the nonlinear regression analysis the design equation is proposed for the selected section.
In order to study the shear mechanical behavior of prefabricated and assembled multi-key group stud connectors, this paper conducted push-out tests on 10 prefabricated and assembled multi-key group stud connectors, distributed in 5 groups, and detailed the failure modes of each specimen. Based on the finite element software, a total of 22 models of this type of stud connector are established, and validated the finite element models using the push-out tests. Furthermore, the effects of stud diameter, number of key groups, and spacing of key groups on the shear resistance of prefabricated and assembled multi-key group stud connectors are analyzed. Combined with the test and finite element, the force analysis is carried out for the stud and first-pouring and post-pouring concrete. The results show that the spacing and number of key groups have a significant impact on the shear capacity and shear stiffness of the specimen. For a single stud, the shear force is transferred to the surrounding concrete via the stud's root. When the stud is finally cut, the steel and the concrete plate are separated. Under vertical shear force, the top row of studs experiences the highest shear, while the middle row has the least. Based on statistical regression, a formula of assembled multi-key group stud connectors is proposed.
The article describes a technique for the measurement of the level of complexity of fracture surfaces by the method of vertical sections, and a performed statistical analysis of the effect of profile lines on the fractographic and fractal parameters of fractures, i.e. the profile line development factor, $R_L$, and the fracture surface development factor, $R_S$, (as defined by the cycloid method), as well as the fractal dimension, $D_C$, (as determined by the chord method), and the fractal dimension, $D_{BC}$, (as determined by the box method). The above-mentioned parameters were determined for fracture surfaces of basalt and gravel concretes, respectively, which had previously been subjected to fracture toughness tests. The concretes were made from mixtures of a water/cement ratio ranging from 0.41 to 0.61 and with a variable fraction of coarse aggregate to fine aggregate, $C_{agg.}/F_{agg.}$, in the range from 1.5 to 3.5. Basalt and gravel aggregate of a fraction to maximum 16 mm were used to the tests. Based on the performed analysis it has been established that the necessary number of concrete fracture profile lines, which assures the reliability of obtained testing results, should amount to 12.
We propose some applications of image processing techniques to extract quantitative measurements by using a camera system developed in Korea university and Catholic Medical School. From now on the system will be called as KCMOTION. The purpose of this study is to provide basic kinematic and kinetic data for the analysis of human movements and to find the clinical usefulness and reliability of the proposed motion analysis system. Two tests, sit-to-stand (STS) movements and pendulum test, are conducted by the system. The aims of the tests are to identify variability and reliability of KCMOTION to give some quantitative comparisons to the other systems. The result of STS movement are compared to the LOCUS IIID motion analyzer by the ratio of maximum flexion movement per body weight to the actual maximum flexion extension torque per body weight. That result in 29 % and 33 % for hip and knee joint, respectively in KCMOTION and 27 % and 30 % in LOCUS IIID System. The results of the pendulum movements are compared to that of using Cybex and Electrogoniometer with relaxation index, amplitude ratio, swing number and swing time. The results of relaxation index and amplitude ratio of the KCMOTION are between those of the Cybex and Electrogoniometer. We also observed that the KCMOTION detect more natural movement, from the results of swing number and time.
Effects of resin contents, number of carbonization, graphitization, sliding speed, and oxidation on friction and wear behavior of carbon/carbon composite materials were investigated. Friction and wear tests were carried out under various sliding conditions. An experimental setup was designed and built in the laboratory. Stainless steel disks were used as the counterface material. Friction coefficient, emperature, and wear factor were measured with a data acquisition system. Wear surfaces were observed by the scanning electron microscope. It has been shown that the average friction coefficient was increased with the sliding speed in the range of 1.43~6.10 m/s, but it as decreased in the range of 6.10~17.35 m/s. Specimens prepared by different numbers of carbonization. showed variations in friction coefficient and friction coefficient of the graphitized specimen was the highest. Friction coefficients depended on contribution of the plowing and adhesive components. As the number of carbonization was increased, wear factor was reduced. Wear factor of the graphitized specimens dropped further. In the case of graphitized specimens, sliding speed had a large influence on wear behavior. When the tribological experiments were conducted in nitrogen atmosphere, the wear factor was decreased to two thirds of the wear factor obtained in air. It is obvious that the difference was affected by oxidation. Results of friction and wear tests were applied to a neural network system based on the backpropagation algorithm. A neural network may be a valuable tool for prediction of tribological behavior of the carbon/carbon composite material if ample data are present.
